The Effectiveness of Patient-tailored Treatment in Patients With (Sub)Acute Neck Pain
Neck PainAcute Pain2 moreThe purpose of the present study is to examine if a patient-tailored treatment program has a better effect on pain and disability than a non-patient tailored treatment or wait and see approach in patients with (sub)acute (recurrent) NSNP. A secondary goal is to evaluate the global perceived effect, treatment adherence, recurrence, work absenteeism and medication use. All interventional treatment arms will consist of a treatment part in a clinical practice setting, under supervision of a trained physiotherapist, and an educational intervention and will be compared to the control group.
Goal Oriented Activity for Latinos With Spine Pain
Low Back PainNeck Pain2 moreThe primary purpose of the study is to determine the efficacy of a culturally adapted cognitive behavioral based tele-rehabilitation program compared to usual care for Hispanics/Latinos with chronic neck or low back pain. Goal Oriented Activity for Latinos with Spine Pain (GOALS) is an evidence-based cognitive behavioral physical therapy program that has been adapted for Hispanics/Latinos with chronic spine pain. GOALS combines 2 in-person evaluation sessions with 6 telephone treatment sessions provided once a week for 8 weeks by a physical therapist trained in cognitive behavioral approaches for pain management. Usual Care involves 8 weeks of in-person treatment as recommended by a physical therapist at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) outpatient rehabilitation clinic. The primary outcome that will be evaluated is pain-related disability as measured by the Brief Pain Inventory Pain Interference scale. It is hypothesized that participants in the GOALS intervention will experience a greater improvement in pain-related disability than participants in the Usual Care group.
Focused Ultrasound (FUS) Mesencephalotomy for Head & Neck Cancer Pain
Cancer of Head and NeckPain3 moreThis proposed pilot study will investigate the safety and initial effectiveness of focused ultrasound lesioning of the contralateral mesencephalon for severe, opioid-resistant pain associated with head and neck cancer
Effects of Diaphragmatic Resistance Training in People With Chronic Neck Pain.
Neck PainDiaphragm2 moreWith increasing usage of electronic devices and sedentary lifestyle, chronic neck pain has become a more prevalent musculoskeletal disorder around the world. Many impairments have been identified in people with chronic neck pain including pain, muscle weakness, proprioceptive deficits and altered breathing pattern. Diaphragm is the key muscle for inspiration and also plays an important role in spinal stability. Previous studies have found that diaphragm functions are related to the stability of the lumbar spine through the fascial, neural and visceral systems. Diaphragmatic resistance training thus could have some positive effects on reducing pain and disability in people with low back pain. However, to date how diaphragmatic resistance training would affect chronic neck pain is still unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of diaphragmatic resistance training on pain, disability and movement quality in people with chronic neck pain.
Chiropractic Spinal Manipulative Therapy for Acute Neck Pain
Acute Neck PainAcute neck is very common in the general population and often causes disability over shorter or longer time periods. Unfortunately, the efficacy of chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy (CSMT) and the efficacy of Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) on acute neck pain is unknown. This 4-arm randomized controlled trial (RCT) will likely provide evidence for the efficacy of CSMT as well as NSAIDs. The applied methodology of the study will aim towards the highest research standards possible for manual-therapy RCTs, thus avoiding typical methodological shortcomings from previous manual-therapy studies. Our aim is to establish evidence-based knowledge on the efficacy of CSMT and NSAIDs in the treatment of acute neck pain.
Comparison of the Additional Effects of Using TENS and Interferential Currents for the Treatment...
Neck PainChronic PainIn the current clinical and scientific reality, conservative treatment is the most coherent clinical management with a view to the proper rehabilitation of patients with chronic neck pain, with a trend towards the use of therapeutic exercise. However, some uncertainty about the effectiveness of therapeutic exercises still remains, requiring further studies with high methodological rigor, especially with regard to multimodal treatment, such as the combination of therapeutic exercises with photobiomodulation. Thus, the objective of this project is to evaluate the effects of adding photobiomodulation to a program of specific therapeutic exercises for the treatment of individuals with chronic non-specific neck pain. To this end, 60 participants will be randomized into three groups: therapeutic exercise group + photobiomodulation (n = 20), and therapeutic exercise group. There will be 8 treatment sessions and participants will be evaluated before, after the 8 sessions, and 4 weeks after the end of treatment using the Numerical Pain Scale, Neck Disability Index, Catastrophic Thoughts about Pain Scale, and Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale. In the statistical analysis, a linear mixed model will be applied, considering the interaction between the time and group factors. Finally, the addition of photobiomodulation to a therapeutic exercise program is expected to generate clinical improvements for patients with chronic neck pain.
Effect of Exercises on Computer Vision Syndrome
Neck PainDry Eye Syndromes4 moreComputer vision syndrome characterized as a complex of eye and vision problem related with activities which increase stress for close to vision. It includes a group of visual symptoms which occur from the extended viewing of the digital screen, when the demands of the task exceed the abilities of the viewer. Computer vision syndrome is an umbrella term that envelops many eye and environment-related problem that happen when the viewing need of the task increase the visual capability of the computer user which cause inefficacy to focus appropriately on computer images. Computer vision syndrome is also known as Digital Eye Strain.
The Effects of Arm Ergometer Endurance Training and High-intensity Interval Training in Chronic...
Neck PainNeck pain is among the causes of morbidity that causes disability. Although it is not life-threatening, neck pain is one of the most important reasons for a decrease in the workforce. Since there is a close anatomical, musculoskeletal and neural connection between the cervical region and the thoracic spine, neck pain can affect respiratory functions by causing biomechanical changes in the thoracic spine and rib cage. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of aerobic exercise and high-intensity interval training, which are known to have an effect on both the musculoskeletal system and respiratory functions, on the respiratory parameters and musculoskeletal system disorders and clinical outcomes of people with neck pain when applied with an arm ergometer.
Sub-Occipital MIT With and Without HR Agonist Contraction of Hamstrings in Neck Pain Patients With...
Neck Pain Patients With Hamstring TightnessHamstrings and Sub occipital muscles are part of the superficial back line of the myofascial chain which connects the neck to the lower extremity and the soft tissue in the cervical spine links the dura and sub occipital muscle fascia. Increased tension in one or other part of this myofascial chain disturbs the whole superficial back line and compromises the flexibility. The objective of this study is to determine the Effects of Sub-Occipital Muscle Inhibition technique (MIT) with and without Hold Relax (HR) Agonist Contraction of Hamstrings on Pain, Disability and Craniovertebral angle in Neck pain patients with Hamstring Tightness. This study will be a randomized controlled trial and will be conducted in Physiotherapy center of AL-Mahmood Welfare Foundation Sahiwal. This study will be completed in time duration of 10 months after the approval of synopsis and consecutive sampling technique will be used. A sample size of 34 will be randomly assigned into two groups. Group A will be given Sub Occipital Muscle Inhibition treatment while Group B will be given Sub occipital Muscle Inhibition and Hold Relax Agonist Contraction of hamstring. Each group will be given three sessions per week. Data will be collected from all participants before first session of treatment and after 6th session of treatment by using Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), Neck Disability Index (NDI), Cervical Range of motion (CROM), Craniovertebral Angle (CVA) and Active knee extension (AKE) test measurement.
Fascial Distortion Model in Tension Type Headache
Postural; DefectTension-Type Headache4 moreTension-type headache is a headache that starts from the cervical and suboccipital regions, spreads from the back of the head to the parietal, frontal and temporal regions, and is felt in the form of compression, pressure and heaviness. Increased muscle and fascia tone in the cervical and cranial region, together with active trigger points and factors that trigger pain, cause tension-type headache. Head and neck fascia serves as an important proprioceptive structure in our body. Abnormal inputs from mechanoreceptors and structures around the joint cause deterioration in joint position sense. This study was planned to investigate the effects of the new facial distortion model on pain intensity, cervical posture and joint position sense, unlike the manual techniques used in previous studies in tension-type headache.
