The Effect of Parent Mediated Intervention Program on Children With ASD Exposed to Earthquake in...

After devastating natural events such as earthquakes, individuals with special needs experience much more difficulties. There is a limited number of studies investigating the impact of disasters on individuals with autism. Studies show that resilience and recovery of pre-disaster functioning in young people with autism largely depends on their immediate inclusion in routine, intensive rehabilitation programs and the stabilization of daily life routines as much as possible. Children with autism had to interrupt their education due to many reasons such as the destruction of special education centers due to the earthquake and the temporary or permanent relocation of families to different cities. The fact that individuals with autism stayed away from education after the earthquake caused parents' stress and anxiety levels to increase. Parent involvement, a standard intervention practice in ASD, shows that teaching intervention strategies to parents can improve children's outcomes and increase parental effectiveness. Researchers aim in this study is to investigate the effect of the online group-based parent-mediated intervention program on autism symptoms, the effect on behavioral problems and the effect on parental mental health of children with autism spectrum disorder whose education life was interrupted 8 months after the earthquake, who had major changes in their lives (such as loss of relatives, loss of health, work, home, anxiety, having to change cities ...). Online group-based intervention program ist designed to improve the interaction, play, speech and learning skills of children with autism symptoms, taking into account the earthquake conditions.

Electromagnetic Therapy for Autism Spectrum Disorder

The investigators hypothesize that electromagnetic therapy (EMT) could produce greater improvement on Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) compared to the waitlist control. To test this hypothesis, a pilot randomized waitlist-controlled trial is designed to achieve the 2 aims: To evaluate the efficacy of EMT in improving children with ASD as measured by Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) by comparing the change in CARS scores from baseline to week 12 between the two groups. To assess the safety of EMT by comparing the number of participants with adverse events, number of participants withdrawn and reasons of withdrawal in treatment group with those in the control group. A pilot randomized waitlist-controlled trial is designed. A total of 30 children aged 3-12 years with a principal diagnosis of ASD will be recruited. They will be randomly assigned to Care-As Usual (CAU) and CAU+EMT groups (n = 15 each group). Participants on the CAU+EMT group will receive a total of 30 sessions of EMT within 12 weeks (2 - 3 sessions/week).Those who are initially assigned to CAU group will receive EMT for 12 weeks after they complete the trial. The post-trial treatment will serve as a compensation for their participation.

The goal of this clinical study is to learn about the utility and performance of the EarliPoint System (™): Evaluation for Autism Spectrum Disorder to diagnose and assess autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children ages 31-84 month (2.5 - 7 years chronological age). The main questions it aims to answer are: To determine the sensitivity and specificity of the EarliPoint device (test) compared to Expert Clinician Diagnosis (ECD) using gold-standard clinical reference assessments in the target age-expanded population. To determine the association between the EarliPoint Verbal Ability Index score and the clinical measures of verbal ability as measured by the Differential Ability Scales (DAS-II). To determine the association between the EarliPoint Nonverbal Ability Index score and the clinical measures of non-verbal abilities as measured by the Differential Ability Scales (DAS-II). To determine the association between the EarliPoint Social Disability Index score and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, second edition (ADOS-II) Overall Total Score. To determine the association between the EarliPoint Expressive Language Ability Index score and the clinical measures of verbal ability as measured by the Differential Ability Scales (DAS-II). To determine the association between the EarliPoint Receptive Language Ability Index score and the clinical measures of verbal ability as measured by the Differential Ability Scales (DAS-II). To estimate the incidence of adverse device effects associated with the use of the EarliPoint device.

Amitriptyline for Repetitive Behaviors in Autism Spectrum Disorders

The investigators will recruit 30 children and adolescents (15 per group x 2 groups) aged 6 to 17 years with ASD and significant repetitive behaviors that cause problems to them and to others around them. Subjects will be randomized to either amitriptyline (AMI), dosed flexibly according to response and tolerability with a maximum dose of 100mg per day or 1.5mg/kg/day, in divided doses to minimize side effects, or placebo in look-alike capsules, for 10 weeks. Rating scales will be used to measure outcomes.
