The System Fammeal With Tailored Recommendations and Gamification for Parents to Counteract Childhood...

Overweight and Obesity

The investigators aim to test an evidence-based intervention, allocated to a mobile app designed to parents and their children with 3 to 6 years old, identified by family doctors or nurses at well-child care visits as overweight or obese for age. This intervention aims to improve parent's perceptions and attitudes regarding children's weight status and food intake, leading to better dietary intake and children's' eating behaviors through positive parental child-feeding practices. In this study, the investigators aim to assess the feasibility of the intervention and explore its impact on the beliefs and attitudes of parents.

Pre/Post Evaluation of Living Green and Healthy for Teens (LiGHT)

ObesityPediatric

This study is the first of three sub-studies aimed at evaluating the outcomes of Living Green, Healthy for Teens (LiGHT v2.1), an app for 13 to 17 year -olds and their families that is intended to help them shift from an unhealthy lifestyle toward better health habits in three areas: physical activity, nutrition and sedentary behaviours. As this is a formative evaluation, it will prospectively follow 500 families for 4.5 months.

The Effect of Obesity on Recovery Profile in Children

ObesityChildhood

It is planned to investigate whether obesity affects the recovery profile after anesthesia in pediatric patients. To evaluate recovery profile, time to spontaneous ventilation (the time between anesthetic discontinuation and beginning of spontaneous ventilation), LMA removal time (the time between anesthetic discontinuation and LMA removal), open eyes (the time between anesthetic discontinuation and eye opening in response to verbal stimulus or painful pinching), and PACU discharge will be also noted.

Eating Phenotypes for Childhood Obesity in the Context of Familial Obesity Risk

Obesity

Using an integrated approach, this study examines multiple eating traits concurrently under states of hunger and satiety. It examines the impact of short-term appetite and intake regulation on longer-term energy intake control and weight development in a cohort of ethnically diverse normal-weight and obese boys and girls with different familial predispositions to obesity.

The Colorado LEAP Study: A Socioecological Approach to Obesity Prevention in Early Childhood

Childhood Obesity

The Colorado Longitudinal Eating And Physical activity (LEAP) Study utilizes a social ecological approach to explore individual, family and environmental factors and their relationship to child weight status over a 3 year timeframe. Our primary research questions are as follows: Are behavior changes (increased willingness to try new foods and gross motor skills) from a preschool nutrition and activity program, The Food Friends®, sustained through early elementary school? Do The Food Friends® programs have an impact on reducing the percentage of children considered overweight and/or obese over a 3 year timeframe? Do food preference and gross motor performance directly affect child weight status or are they mediators to dietary intake and physical activity?

Vitamin D Intervention in Young Adults With Severe Childhood-onset Obesity

Obesity

Obesity is associated with lower total serum 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (S-25OHD) concentration. However, the impact of obesity on free S-25OHD is inadequately studied. A direct assay for free 25OHD was introduced recently. The aim of the study was to evaluate differences in vitamin D metabolism between young adults with severe childhood-onset obesity and normal-weight controls. Half of the obese subjects and controls will receive placebo and the other half will receive vitamin D3 50 µg daily for 12 weeks.
