The Effect of Cinnamon on Patients With Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome; a Pilot...

Chronic ProstatitisChronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome

Chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is one of the common urologic problems, nevertheless; its etiology and pathophysiology are poorly understood, with no solid guidelines for effective treatment. The beneficial health attributes of cinnamon and its derivative and components were reported by several researchers, this study is designed to illuminate the possible benefits of cinnamon on patients with Chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS)

Upper Limb Task-Oriented Rehabilitation With Robotic Exoskeleton for Hemiparetic Stroke Patients...

Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)Chronic Disease1 more

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of an assisted rehabilitation treatment through a robotic exoskeleton device on the functional recovery in a group of patients with hemiparesis from lesion of the first motor neuron (post-stroke), compared with a group of patients subjected to a conventional rehabilitation treatment. The patients enrolled in the study are chronic stroke injured with right hemiparesis of moderate to severe degree, by the system injury pyramid, never undergoing rehabilitation treatment with robots.

Urban Zen Integrative Therapy for Persons With Pulmonary Hypertension

Pulmonary HypertensionChronic Disease

The primary goal of this study is to determine the feasibility and acceptability of a 6-week multicomponent integrative therapy program, Urban Zen Integrative Therapy (UZIT), for adults with chronic, life-limiting cardiopulmonary disease. The secondary goal is to determine preliminary efficacy of UZIT in symptom management. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) presents an excellent model of a severe, life-limiting cardiopulmonary condition with high symptom burden and poor outcomes suitable for this scientific inquiry. Despite medical and pharmacological advances in the treatment, 50-55% of persons with PH will die within three years after diagnosis. Medical management often involves life-long complex pharmacological treatment requiring high levels of skill, knowledge, and social support. Clusters of bothersome symptoms such as chest pain, anxiety, insomnia, dyspnea, and fatigue can overwhelm patients' ability to manage daily activities and medication treatment regimens. Side effects of treatment induce additional noxious symptoms. The high prevalence of physical symptoms, depression, and anxiety among adults with PH confirmed in our prior work, can also lead to reduced (HRQoL). A literature search found no published report of complementary, integrative therapy interventions to alleviate symptoms in adults with PH. This study will use a single group repeated-measures design to address the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention and to explore preliminary efficacy.

Implications of Stress Management Program

Chronic ConditionsMultiple

Previous studies indicated that patients with diabetes mellitus and hypertension had higher level of perceived stress, used maladaptive coping strategies and poor health-related quality of life. Therefore, stress management program was applied to reduce their perceived stress, improve their coping strategies, improve their health-related quality of life and psychological health of the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension in current study. The main objectives of the current study were to observe the effects of stress management program on perceived stress, coping strategies and health-related quality of life using pre-experimental research design. Patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 and hypertension were selected through purposive sampling technique to apply the eclectic approach of the stress management program. Total 110 patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension completed the program from 114 patients who gave inform consent for participation in the first session. Perceived stress scale, WHOQOL and Coping strategies questionnaire were administered at the pre and post-levels of the program. Further, base line of targeted domains variables was also filled from the participants at pre, mid and post-levels to access the efficacy of the program which was formulated according to previous research data by the researcher. The stress Management program consisted of 10 session which were delivered to eight groups (diabetic and Hypertensive) in five weeks. Each session had the duration 90 minutes and two sessions were conducted in one week.

Management of Prostatodynia in Younger Patients With Non-ablative Erbium:YAG Intraurethral Laser...

Chronic Prostatitis With Chronic Pelvic Pain SyndromeProstatodynia

This prospective study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes between the use of the erbium: YAG (Er:YAG) laser, intraurethrally administered in long non-ablative SMOOTH™ train of pulses applied at the level of the male prostatic urethra, to the use of the pharmacological treatment of oral tadalafil for the treatment of chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS). The results show that both treatments are effective in alleviating symptoms of CP/CPPS. The non-ablative Er:YAG SMOOTHTM laser seems to be a promising treatment for this widely spread condition. More studies are needed to confirm its safety and efficacy.

Smartphone-App as Maintenance Program in COPD

Pulmonary DiseaseChronic Obstructive

Increasing Physical activity (PA) is considered to be an important factor in an efficient management of the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The successful methods required to achieve improvements in PA following Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR), however are sparsely reported. Therefore, the investigators conduct this trial to evaluate the effectiveness of using a COPD management program delivered to the patient through a mobile medical application Kaia COPD-App, after the completion of a PR.
