Development and Implementation of Evidence-Based Family-Oriented Support for Young Carers and Their...
Chronic IllnessThe purpose of this study is to develop and implement evidence-based and family-oriented support for young carers and their families in Germany. Hypothesis is that families' own support mechanisms, combined with externally provided support that is determined by the families' specific needs, will help to overcome their burden and enable families to live in the way they wish to despite chronic illness. This will lead to a measurable increase in HRQOL of children concerned.
Collection of Blood and Urine Specimens From Volunteers Utilizing Health Examination Services
Chronic DiseasesHypertension3 moreIn summary, the researchers want to construct a longitudinal data bank using voluntary health examination participants. Researchers in the National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) campus can utilize these data to clarify the effects of several genetic and environmental factors on various common diseases in Taiwan in the future.
QoL and Stress in Parents of Children With Developmental Disabilities and Chronic Disease
Developmental DisabilityChronic Disease9 moreThe aim of this cross-sectional study is to investigate the level of stress and quality of life in parents of children with developmental disabilities (Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, pervasive developmental disorder, cerebral palsy) and parents of children chronic diseases (diabetes mellitus type 1, epilepsy, asthma) compared to parents of healthy children. The investigators will analyze the level of stress, quality of life, self-esteem, optimism, resilience, happiness, stigmatization, depression, anxiety, sleep quality, parenting challenges and some physiological indicators of the stress such as level of cortisol and heart rate variability. Also, the investigators will measure Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs) in the skin. The investigators assume that parents of children with developmental disabilities and chronic diseases have higher level of stress and lower quality of life compared to the parents of healthy children.
Peer Support for Post Intensive Care Syndrome Self-Management
Critical IllnessSepsis9 moreA prospective, 2-arm, single-blind, randomized controlled clinical feasibility trial design is planned. Forty CCI survivors will be randomized (1:1) to either the PS-PICS (peer support) intervention or usual care (control) group.
CONNECARE-Assuta-Case Study 1
Chronic DiseaseOld Age; DebilityThe European Union's Horizon 2020 project issued a Call for Action [1] in December 2013 to design, develop, disseminate and evaluate new IT technologies for use in integrative treatment processes, with emphasis on complex adult patient. Assuta Hospital submitted a proposal for this call, as part of a broad consortium of 10 participants from various European countries. The CONNECARE consortium has formulated a general model for integrative treatment, and is currently in the technological development stages, to create a smart (supportive decision) and adaptive system that supports integrative treatment processes both in the hospital and in the community for personalized treatment in complex chronic patients. The development includes a significant integrative component of self-care management by the patient and / or the primary caregiver. Following the completion of the technological development, clinical trials will be held in four organizations throughout Europe - Assuta Hospital in Ashdod in cooperation with the Maccabi community in Ashdod, two centers in Catalonia and the Groningen region in the Netherlands. The purpose of the studies is to assess the impact of the implementation of the model, processes and digital tools that will be built during the project.
Pneumococcal Nasopharyngeal Colonization as Predictor of Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) in Adults...
Streptococcus Pneumoniae PneumoniaStreptococcus Pneumoniae Infection2 moreStreptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) is a commensal bacterium, often isolated in the nasopharynx of preschool children and older adults with weakened immune systems, a pathogen that remains the leading cause of Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) and invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) such as Sepsis and Meningitis. CAP is the sixth leading cause of overall mortality and the first cause of infectious disease in Colombia and the world (Montúfar et al, 2013; GBD, 2016; WHO, 2018), and both its incidence and prevalence have remained stable over the past 3 decades. Likewise, CAP due to S. pnemoniae is the most common cause of lower respiratory tract infections in humans worldwide and is associated with high morbidity and mortality in patients who suffer from it. Pneumococcus frequently colonizes the nasopharynx of children and adults and, therefore, this condition has been postulated as a risk factor for the development of CAP. There are reports of the effect of nasopharyngeal colonization in infants, but the implications of this colonization in adults, especially adults with chronic comorbidities, are not known. Additionally, several studies point to a relationship between pathogenicity, colonization capacity, and disease severity according to the infecting pneumococcal serotype. Therefore, it is not known which pneumococcal serotypes are most frequently colonized by adults with chronic diseases (cardiovascular disease (CVD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), renal disease (RHD), rheumatological disease (MDR), Diabetes Mellitus (DM), among others) and the potential clinical implications of this colonization. For these reasons, this research aims to study the phenomenon of colonization by pneumococcus in patients with chronic diseases for the development of CAP, and the relationship between the virulence genes of different serotypes and the outcome in invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD). This study is based on real evidence (from clinical practice) and translational medicine, is prospective-observational, multicenter and cohort type in consecutive patients. Thus, in a first phase the clinical observation of the subjects will be carried out, a second phase of follow-up and sampling in the patients, and a third phase of molecular analysis.
Use of a Connected Companion in Children With Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic Fibrosis in ChildrenChronic DiseaseThe study will be conducted over a 6 months period. For the first three months, the child will be accompagned with a connected companion. After this period, the companion will be removed for three months in oder to prove this companion could improve treatment adherence for children suffering from cytolisis fibrosis. This study will be conducted at the University Hospital Center of Rennes and Hospital Center of Saint-Brieuc.
Nutritional Habits, and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Outcome
Covid19Chronic Inflammation1 moreAs of May 30th more than 23,000 cases of COVID -19 cases were confirmed in Egypt with total deaths of 913. Post viral entry, intense immune response against the virus with infiltration of monocytes and macrophages into alveolar cells with decreasing number of lymphocytes in peripheral blood along with reduced lymphocytes in lymphoid organs, hypercoagulability, thrombosis and multiple organ damage, The gut microbiota and immune homeostasis seem to have a back and forth relationship. Also, gut microbiota derived signals are known to tune the immune cells for pro and anti-inflammatory responses thereby affecting the susceptibility to various diseases. Healthy gut microbiome essentially could be pivotal in maintaining an optimal immune system to prevent an array of excessive immune reactions that eventually become detrimental to lungs and vital organ systems. Numerous studies have shown that the patient's nutritional status have a significant effect on an individual's immunity and over all health status and it has been suggested that nutritional deficiencies may predispose to severe forms of COVID-19 infections. Co-existing non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) in COVID-19 patients have been found to delay patients recovery and worsen their prognosis, the reason may be due to aggravated inflammatory pathology found in NCDs exacerbating COVID-19 infection. The aim of the study is to evaluate the role dietary habits among COVID-19 Egyptian patients and whether type of diet (Mediterranean or Western) will affect disease outcomes
Hypnosis and Direct Autonomic Experience Influence on Chronic Symptoms
Restless Legs SyndromeMultiple Sclerosis4 moreStudy will look at a limited number of participants with various chronic symptoms. Investigating a new and novel form of hypnosis application called "Direct Autonomic Experience (DAX)" which is using combination of visualization, metaphor, post-hypnotic suggestion and anchoring. Purpose is to confirm that DAX generally appears to impact SUDS value and subjects report observed level of effect on short and longer term measurements. Most significantly, testing that DAX technique/action is reusable later if the measured SUDS value returns or increases.
