The Additional Value of Noninvasive Ventilation Next to Rehabilitation in Hypercapnic COPD Patients...
Pulmonary DiseaseChronic ObstructiveThe purpose of this study is to investigate whether noninvasive ventilation by nose mask during the night has additional benefits next to pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with severe hypercapnic COPD.
Sub-study of the Essen Study Centre for the ENTAiER Trial
Elderly PatientsChronically Ill1 moreThe present study is a sub-study of the ENTAiER study. The ENTAiER study is a multicenter, randomized, controlled study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of eurythmy therapy and Tai Chi in comparison to standard care in chronically ill older patients with an increased risk of falling. In addition to the main questions of the ENTAiER study, three additional questions are being investigated at the Hospital Essen-Steele: Proteome and telomere analyses as well as qualitative parameters are recorded and examined. The aim is to compare the changes in proteomes, telomeres and qualitative factors under eurythmy therapy, Tai Chi and standard care in chronically ill older patients with an increased risk of falling.
Severe Chronic Respiratory Failure and Citrulline
Pulmonary DiseaseChronic ObstructiveBecause of its very high bioavailability and its specific and direct action on protein synthesis, the investigators hypothesize that citrulline supplementation would be an innovative nutritional strategy to improve the peripheral muscle mass and strength in COPD patients with severe chronic respiratory failure. This supplementation would be more effective if the pathology is severe and the chronic systemic inflammation important. The benefits of this supplementation could help the most severe patients break out of the cycle of inactivity and thus optimize their quality of life. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of 45-day nutritional supplementation with Citrulline (10 g / day) on the body composition (lean body mass) in malnourished COPD patients with severe chronic respiratory failure.
Effects of Proxelan Somministration in Patients With Chronic Prostatitis
Chronic ProstatitisChronic Prostatitis With Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome1 moreThe purpose of the study is to determinate the antinflammatory effects of the Proxelan on a cohort of patients affected by prostatitis'like symptoms and clinical evidence of abacterical prostatistis, trough a significative improvements of pain symptoms according to the NIH-CPSI questionnaire items, spermatozoa motility/concentration variations and the semen cytokines level decrease.
EVALUATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EFFERVESCENT PARACETAMOL AND BLOOD PRESSURE. CLINICAL TRIAL....
HypertensionChronic Disease of Musculoskeletal SystemParacetamol's solubility is achieved by adding to the excipient sodium salts, either as bicarbonate, carbonate or citrate. As the relationship between salt and hypertension is well known, due to the sodium content it has raised a hypothesis that may interfere with the control of that risk factor. Therefore, the objective of this study is to evaluate the effect on blood pressure of effervescent paracetamol compared to non-effervescent, in hypertensive patients. This is a multicenter, randomized, controlled, crossover, open, phase IV clinical trial, which compares the effect of two different formulations of paracetamol (effervescent or non-effervescent tablets) in the blood pressure of hypertensive patients after 3 weeks treatment (coded EUDRACT 2010-023485-53). The washing time between the two periods is approximately 1 week (minimum 3 days)
Laparoscopic Prostatectomy for Chronic Prostatitis
ProstatitisChronic Prostatitis With Chronic Pelvic Pain SyndromeProstatitis is an inflammation of the prostate, an pelvic organ of men. Prostatitis can cause great discomfort which varies but can include pelvic pain, pelvic pressure, a vague sense of discomfort, a feeling of malaise and fatigue, fever, burning on urination, pain on reaching orgasm, and bleeding. In many men the symptoms of prostatitis can be chronic. It is estimated that in the United States chronic prostatitis is responsible for as many as two million doctor visits a year. The disease can be ruinous, interfering with work, intimacy, and other things. The causes of chronic prostatitis are not understood. The treatments commonly used, including antibiotics and prostate massage, work poorly. We now have evidence that laparoscopic prostatectomy can eliminate the misery of chronic prostatitis. This trial aims to quantify and better characterize the effect of laparoscopic prostatectomy on the symptoms of chronic prostatitis.
Structuring the Integration of Care Management Services For Medicaid Enrollees Recipients With Chronic...
Chronic IllnessThe study seeks to measure the effect of increased coordination of care on medical costs, treatment utilization and selected clinical indicators among a Medicaid population with chronic medical conditions and substance abuse problems? We shall address this question by conducting a demonstration project consisting of the provision of integrated care management (somatic and behavioral) to Medicaid enrollees living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and who have both chronic medical conditions and problems with substance abuse. A specific component of the study will be the participation of Maryland's Mental Health Administration (MHA) and MAPS, the administrator of psychiatric services for the Medicaid enrollees in Maryland. We shall compare the results of the integrated care management for the study sample on the Eastern Shore with a control group from the counties of western Maryland.

Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CP/CPPS)The purpose of this study is to determine whether pregabalin is an effective treatment for Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome.
Effect of Yong Chong Cao Capsule on Outcomes in Patients With Mild to Severe COPD
Pulmonary DiseaseChronic ObstructiveThe aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of Yong Chong Cao capsule on outcomes in patients with mild to severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Effect of Acupuncture on Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Pulmonary DiseaseChronic ObstructiveThis study aims to compare the efficacy of three therapies for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients: one, conventional drug based on Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) 2017 and Chinese Medical Association Guidelines; another, acupuncture, an important part of traditional Chinese Medicine; and finally, the combination of conventional drug and acupuncture, and then determine which therapy is the most suitable for patients with COPD.
