In this study we want to compare the accuracy of two methods to measure renal perfusion by MRI spin labelling technique: the first measurement done with the 1.5 T MRI versus the second one obtained with the 3.0 T MRI (Siemens MRI device). Additionally we want to compare the changes of renal perfusion caused by physiological stress. The used stress test is the cold pressor test done at the forehead.

Oral and Dental Health Status in Patients Suffering From Chronic Kidney Disease

A large panel of oral and dental diseases exist in patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) in end-stage renal disease: it concerns teeth, peridontium, alveolar bone and saliva and it has been already described in the literature. The consequences of oral diseases in systemic health are substantial, including increase of inflammatory parameters, alteration of nutrition and increase of cardiovascular risk factors. It has been shown before that several oral diseases can be considered as cardiovascular risk factor in the general population and in diabetic patients through the chronic inflammatory pathway. In CKD patients, the influence of oral diseases on the progression of the chronic kidney disease is not yet established, as most of the studies are focused on stage 5 CKD or dialysis patients. That's why the interactions between dental health and CKD will be evaluated in this population of patients, at different stages of the disease (stages 2 to 5). The main objective will be to describe the oral diseases at each stage of CKD. Secondary objectives will be: (1) To evaluate the link between the oral health and the chronic kidney disease stage, the nutritional and inflammatory status; (2) Among patients needing dental treatments, to evaluate after 6 months and 12 months whether dental cares have an influence on nutrition parameters, inflammatory status and CKD; (3) to evaluate the completion of dental treatments after the dental consultation including advises on dental health.

Objective: To evaluate the variation in intraocular pressure in patients with chronic kidney disease, according to the time interval between hemodialysis sessions and to the influence of weight and blood pressure on intraocular pressure. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study in which 78 eyes of 39 patients on hemodialysis, at the Santa Casa de Misericordia de Goiânia hospital, were analyzed in June 2014. Patients were divided into groups according to the days on which they underwent hemodialysis. The mean, standard deviation, and median of the intraocular pressure, blood pressure, and weight were calculated. P-values <0.05 were considered statistically significant.

This study aims to investigate the prevalence of oral infection in chronic renal disease patients and to examine whether a focused oral hygiene intervention can reduce oral infection leading to reduced systemic inflammatory parameters in chronic renal disease patients in hemodialysis, chronic renal disease patients waiting for kidney transplantation, and chronic renal disease patients who has been transplanted 1-1½ year previously. The results will be compared to a gender- and age-matched healthy control group.

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a defect in the tubular reabsorption of sodium, and therefore the ability to excrete a sodium load is diminished compared to healthy subjects. Urinary biomarkers reflects the water- and sodium-channel activity in the kidney and may be measured after an infusion with hypertonic saline in CKD patients and healthy subjects.

The number of cardiac angiography and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) has increased steadily in recent years. This has resulted in the increasing incidence of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CIAKI). Major risk factors for CIAKI include older age, diabetes mellitus (DM), chronic kidney disease(CKD), the concurrent use of nephrotoxic drugs, hemodynamic instability, etc. Importantly, DM appears to act as a risk multiplier, meaning that in a patient with CKD it amplifies the risk of CIAKI. The aim of this multicenter prospective, randomized, controlled study is to evaluate whether statins treatment during the perioperative period would reduce the risk of CIAKI in a high-risk population of patients with both type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and CKD undergoing coronary angiography or noncoronary angiography, and evaluate the influence of such potential benefit on short-term outcome.
