HyperplasiaChronic Renal Failure

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of recipient vein pretreatment of edifoligide (E2F Decoy), compared to placebo, on graft/recipient vein stenosis in polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) vascular access grafts placed for hemodialysis at 6 months after enrollment.

Treatment for Subjects With Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Not Receiving Dialysis

Kidney Disease

The proposed study is designed to test a novel dosing paradigm that would facilitate the treatment of anemia in CKD patients not on dialysis. Anemic patients who have achieved and maintained target hemoglobin (Hb) on every 2 weeks (Q2W) dosing of darbepoetin alfa will have the dosing interval extended to once monthly (QM) dosing. Extending the dosing interval for darbepoetin alfa to QM represents a major potential benefit to both patients with CKD and their caregivers.

Pharmacodynamics and Non-Clinical Inferiority of Heparin Sodium (Cristália) Compared With the Product...

Chronic Renal Failure

The primary objective of the study was to assess the safety in use of the drug Heparin Sodium, produced by Cristália Laboratory, compared drug Liquemine ®, manufactured by Roche Laboratory, and secondary purpose was to evaluate the non-inferiority clinical testing of the product on the product comparator and pharmacodynamic effect, as evidenced by analyzing the parameters and TTPA Anti-Xa in patients with chronic renal failure in treatment of hemodialysis.

Vitamin D Repletion in Chronic Kidney Disease

Chronic Kidney Disease

The reason for doing this research is that people with kidney disease often suffer from heart disease. Why this happens is not fully known. A possible cause may be high blood levels of a substance made by bacteria called "endotoxin". The blood levels of this substance are high in people with medium-level kidney disease. We want to know if replacing normal amounts of Vitamin D can help lower the levels of this substance. We also want to know if replacing normal amounts of Vitamin D is associated with other changes that may help heart disease. We hope that our research will help figure out if levels of this substance can be lowered by replacing normal amounts of Vitamin D. Normal subjects are enrolled to have a 'control' set for comparison purposes.

Potassium Intake in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease

Chronic Kidney DiseaseHypertension

Chronic kidney disease is associated with high blood pressure, heart disease, and strokes. Potassium lowers blood pressure and may help prevent heart disease and strokes in the general population, but has not been well-studied in people with kidney disease. This study will look at the benefits and safety of two levels of potassium intake in patients with kidney disease. We expect that a higher level of potassium intake safely lowers blood pressure compared to a lower level of potassium intake. We hope that this and other research projects will help us to learn more so that guidelines can be created for potassium intake in patients with chronic kidney disease
