Comparative Study of Error Rates Between ELLIPTA® Dry Powder Inhaler (DPI) and Other DPIs

Pulmonary DiseaseChronic Obstructive

For effective drug delivery using inhalation route, it is important to use the inhalers correctly. This open-label study will evaluate the error rates during the use of ELLIPTA DPI, alone or in combination, in comparison with other DPIs. The study aims to provide clinical evidence in subjects with COPD that the reduced number of steps required to use the ELLIPTA DPI could result in fewer errors made by subjects, and therefore a more consistent treatment. Approximately 450 subjects prescribed with either of RELVAR® ELLIPTA, ANORO® ELLIPTA, INCRUSE® ELLIPTA, SYMBICORT® TURBUHALER®, SERETIDE® DISKUS®, SPIRIVA® HANDIHALER®, ULTIBRO® BREEZHALER® or SEEBRI® BREEZHALER will be included in the study and will have 2 clinical visits. At Visit 1, subjects will take their maintenance DPIs and the critical and overall errors made by subjects will be assessed. After the assessment, subjects will be instructed on correct use or informed of their correct use of their DPIs. The total duration of the study is approximately 6 weeks. ELLIPTA, SERETIDE and DISKUS are registered trademarks of the GSK group of companies. SYMBICORT and TURBUHALER are registered trademarks of the AstraZeneca group of companies. SPIRIVA and HANDIHALER are registered trademarks of Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals. ULTIBRO, BREEZHALER and SEEBRI are registered trademarks of the Novartis group of companies.

EXhaled Hydrogen Peroxide As a Marker of Lung diseasE (EXHALE) Pilot Study.

AsthmaChronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

This Pilot study evaluates the use of a new device called Inflammacheck and whether it can consistently measure hydrogen peroxide levels in exhaled breath condensate. It will also assess whether exhaled breath condensate hydrogen peroxide levels as measured by Inflammacheck can differentiate people with asthma and COPD from healthy individuals.

Modeling Bronchial Epithelium Modifications Associated With COPD Using iPS

Pulmonary DiseaseChronic Obstructive1 more

The primary objective of this study is to to verify the feasibility of obtaining and comparing two epithelia in two populations based on the following experiments: Differentiation of an Induced Pluripotent Stem cell (iPS) clone derived from cutaneous biopsy in a population of heavy smokers (plus patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) in order to obtain differentiated bronchial epithelia in vitro. For each of these same patients, generation of bronchial epithelium in vitro from bronchial biopsy using human bronchial epithelial cells (HBECs) in air-liquid interface (ALI) cultures.

Effect of Short-term Oxygen During CPET in COPD

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

In a randomized, sham-controlled trial the investigators will test whether supplemental oxygen given during cardiopulmonary exercise testing will improve exercise performance and physiological parameters in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

SCCOR Minorities Observational Study

Pulmonary DiseaseChronic Obstructive1 more

The SCCOR Minorities study will recruit minority participants from the COPDGene cohort, in whom the University of Pittsburgh has already obtained baseline and five year data, in order to enhance bone mineral density and vascular function data collection from minority smokers. Dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans will be obtained to measure bone mineral density. Non-invasive vascular studies will be performed to measure endothelial function. Questionnaires regarding symptoms and activity levels will be administered and a blood sample will be obtained in participants in which blood samples are not already available from the COPDGene study visits.

Hemodynamic Effects of Negative Pressure Ventilation in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

COPD

Negative pressure ventilation (NPV) is a non-invasive ventilation mode which provide better lung expansion. The major complication of NPV is decrease blood pressure and affects the hemodynamics. The effects of NPV on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients with pulmonary rehabilitation program remains unknown.

Impulse Oscillation to Evaluate Diagnostic Efficacy in Patients With Chronic Airway Disease

Chronic Airway Disease

The aim of the research is to explore the diagnostic efficacy of impulse oscillation (IOS) before and after bronchial provocation test (BPT) and bronchial dilation test (BDT) in chronic airway disease.

Effects of COPD Standardized Management on COPD Exacerbation

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

This is a multi-center, parallel-group,cluster randomised trial involving secondary hospitals across China. The objective is to evaluate the effect of COPD on reducing moderate-to-severe exacerbations during 12 months follow-up in primary-level medical institutions.

Enhancing Exercise Training for Adults With COPD

Pulmonary DiseaseChronic Obstructive

This study aims to find a new way to get individuals living with COPD to become and stay active during and after an exercise intervention. In this study, individuals living with COPD will participate in an online exercise intervention. The exercises included in this intervention are based in individuals' activities of daily living. Additionally, during this intervention, individuals with COPD will participate in peer support sessions and will be taught and encouraged to discuss eight behaviour change techniques that have been shown to help support increased participation in physical activity and/or exercise. The goal of this study is to test out this new protocol and determine if it is feasible to recreate on a larger scale and if it is acceptable for the COPD community.
