The Influence of Qigong Wuqinxi on Health Status of the Community-Dwelling Older Adults

Sleep QualityChronic Pain

Pain and sleep disturbance are common symptoms of community-dwelling older adults observed in traditional Chinese medical(TCM) clinics. Acupuncture or other medical treatments have their side effects and usage limitations, so it is expected that other non-medical interventions can relieve the symptoms. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of Qigong Wuqinxi intervention on pain, sleep quality, TCM body constitution and tongue features of the community-dwelling older adults.

Chronic PainLow Back Pain1 more

This study is a prospective, multi-site, randomized, shamcontrolled, double-blind trial with one-way crossover designed to assess the effectiveness and safety of the Gimer NeuroBlock SCS Trialing System for the treatment of chronic back pain and/or lower limb pain. The NeuroBlock SCS Trialing System is an ultra-high frequency SCS device for the treatment of patients with chronic back pain and/or lower limb pain who are refractory to conservative pain management. After screening procedures, eligible subjects will enter the study which is comprised of a 1-week randomized testing period, a 1-week follow-up period and 2-week observation period.

Complementary and Integrative Pain Therapies and Functional Restoration (IMPPPORT) Trial)

Chronic Pain

This study aims to evaluate the benefit of a complementary and integrative health (CIH) pain management program when added to standard rehabilitative care (SC) compared to SC alone prior to an intensive functional restoration (FR) program in a population of active duty service members. In addition the study aims to identify factors that predict improvement in pain impact following treatment, and to determine the proportion of participants who experience clinically meaningful response. SC included physical and occupational therapy. CIH included chiropractic, acupuncture, yoga and foam roller instruction. Both treatment groups also received education about pain psychology. Participants were randomly assigned to a 3-week course of either SC alone or CIH combined with SC prior to a 3-week course of FR. Outcomes were collected at baseline, at end of stage 1, and post-FR. Outcomes included patient-reported and provider-determined measures.

Mobilization With Movement in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

PainChronic

Peripheral nerve impingement neuropathies are the most common mononeuropathies encountered in clinical practice. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) occurs as a result of compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel, a narrow osteofibrous canal. CTS is the most common entrapment neuropathy of the upper extremity, affecting approximately 3% of the general population. Massage and mobilization techniques are used in the treatment of CTS due to their analgesic effects. The painless mobilization with movement technique (MWM, developed by Brian Mulligan) is a manual therapy method applies to correct the limitation of movement in the joint and to relieve pain and functional disorders. Many studies have shown that MWM technique provides faster and momentary painless joint movement compared to other physical therapy modalities. The patient group with CTS has a large place in the general population and long treatment processes cause both labour loss and economic loss. In the literature review, there is no study examining the effects of MWM in patients with CTS. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effectiveness of MWM technique in cases with CTS.

Virtual Single-Session "Empowered Relief" Group Intervention for Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain

Pain is naturally aversive and often distressing. Pain coping and self-regulatory skills have been shown to effectively reduce pain-related distress and other symptoms. The purpose of the study is to pilot a single-session videoconference-delivered pain education class (Empowered Relief) for bolstering pain and symptom management in people with chronic pain. Class participants learn skills and develop a personalized plan to use the skills every day. The study will follow participants 3 months by administering 5 follow-up surveys at 1 & 2 weeks and 1 month, 2 months, and 3 months post-treatment to determine whether the class confers long-term benefits across various aspects of health.

Alcohol Use and Chronic Pain Among Primary Care Patients

Alcohol DrinkingChronic Pain

Chronic pain and unhealthy drinking are common co-occurring conditions among patients presenting to primary care. Given their impact on functioning and medical outcomes, there would be considerable benefit to developing an accessible, easily utilized, integrative approach to reduce unhealthy alcohol use and pain that can be readily incorporated into the primary care setting. The objective of this study is to test a smartphone-based intervention for reducing unhealthy alcohol use and pain in primary care patients, determine the feasibility of implementing this intervention in the primary care setting, provide effect size estimates of the intervention on drinking and chronic pain outcomes.

the Value of Sensory Index in Trigeminal Neuralgia

PainChronic

Interventional therapies for Trigeminal Neuralgia are of variable efficacy and safety, and have different results for different periods of time before the recurrence of symptoms. Interventional therapy for TN is either destructive with trigeminal nerve sensory function destroyed intentionally or non-destructive with decompression of the trigeminal nerve and preservation of its regular function. The most common procedures in treating TN pain are the use of radiofrequency (RF). the aim of this study is to assess the possible value of motor index as a prediction of success of radiofrequency lesioning of the Gasserian ganglion during treatment of trigeminal neuralgia.
