Study of the Treatment of Experimental Pain in Buprenorphine Maintained Persons With Chronic Musculoskeletal...

Opioid-Related DisordersChronic Pain

Pain is very common in persons with a history of addiction, but few studies have examined the best treatment of pain in this population. This is a study to determine the pain relief provided by intravenous hydromorphone (Dilaudid) or buprenorphine given to persons maintained on stable doses of methadone or buprenorphine who have chronic musculoskeletal pain. Experimental sessions will require overnight stays on a residential research unit. In these sessions, persons will be exposed to standard experimental pain techniques at baseline and then rate the relief (if any) provided by the study medication when exposed to the same techniques. Persons will be asked to participate in 3 sessions, each separated by at least 7 days.

Central Nervous System Amplification in Lumbar Failed Back Surgery Syndrome

Prevention of Persistent Opioid Use in Mothers

Opioid UsePostpartum Disorder1 more

Our previous work has identified the group of women at risk for prolonged pain, opioid use and poor functional recovery after childbirth. The optimal intervention to mitigate this risk is unknown. We propose to test an analgesic adjutant that is commonly used for post-operative pain compared to placebo to improve post-partum recovery.

A Behavioral Intervention for Depression and Chronic Pain in Primary Care

Chronic PainDepression

Chronic pain and depression frequently co-exist in late and mid-life and contribute to increased disability, high health care costs, psychiatric comorbidity, and suicide. The investigators will recruit 60 adults from Weill Cornell Medical Associates primary care practices; participants will be randomized to either Relief (a 9 session behavioral intervention) or usual care/referral for mental health care. Research assessments are conducted with both groups at study entry (Baseline), 6, 9, and 12 weeks.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Pain and Opioid Dependence in Methadone Maintenance Treatment

Chronic PainOpiate Dependence

This study involves the comparison of two treatment approaches for patients with chronic pain who are entering methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) for opioid addiction: (a) an integrated counseling that addresses both chronic pain and opioid dependence(POD)and (b) a counseling intervention that addresses opioid dependence only.

A Study of IMC-1 In Patients With Fibromyalgia

FibromyalgiaChronic Pain1 more

This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 16-week study designed to evaluate the hypothesis that tissue-resident herpes virus may be causally related to fibromyalgia symptoms or recurrence. IMC-1 is a combination treatment that is designed to suppress this suspected virus and thus alleviate fibromyalgia symptoms.

Single-arm, Open-label, Phase II Trial of HD-tDCS in Fibromyalgia Patients

FibromyalgiaChronic Pain

The purpose of this study is to investigate the mean number of stimulation (high definition-transcranial direct current stimulation) sessions (up to 26) needed to achieve a clinical response with this response defined as a 50% decrease in Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain. These data will be important in defining the optimal number of sessions for future fibromyalgia subjects in Phase III trials.

Guided Self-determination in the Treatment of Chronic Pain to Promote the Life Skills of the Patient...

Chronic Pain

The purpose of this randomized study is to find out whether using the Danish-developed nursing intervention guided self-determination (GSD) can improve life skills of the chronic pain patient. The hypothesis is "using guided self-determination in the treatment of chronic pain patients will increase the life skills of the patients and thus their life quality in spite of pain".
