Perioperative serum potassium in patients over 65 impacts recovery, quality of life and physical functioning. While perioperative serum potassium is an important preoperative risk factor for poor surgical outcomes in older adults, the relationship between perioperative serum potassium and postsurgical pain in this population has not been investigated. The investigators hypothesized that preoperative serum potassium would be associated with greater odds of postsurgical chronic pain.

Chronic pain, life style factors and quality of life (KROKIETA) is a multicenter study that aims to analyze life style factors, socioeconomic and psychometric properties, metabolic problems, drug use, quality of life and biochemical variables in chronic non-cancer pain patients. The life style factors will be compared to those of normal population. At baseline, the study patients fill in questionnaires (A-E), the patients´ weight, length, waist and blood pressure are measured, pain-related factors are recorded and blood samples taken. Changes in the quality of life of the study patients will be evaluated by questionnaires during follow-up at 2 years and 5 years.

The association between the COMT haplotypes and the presence or absence of CPSP or CRPS will be assessed stratifying the patients based on the individual categories of trauma or elective surgery.

This study is undertaken to assess and improve the existing patient flow, or so-called throughput process, in an adult outpatient pain treatment clinic.

Chronic pain is relatively common after different types of surgery. The investigators intend to study prevalence, characteristics and risk factors of chronic pain after shoulder arthroplasty, focusing on neuropathic pain characteristics, and risk factors such as preoperative pain, severe acute postoperative pain, age, gender, and pain elsewhere.

There are only little data on the risk of chronic complaints (pain and discomfort) following open non-mesh sutured repairs of small umbilical or epigastric hernias. Our primary and secondary endpoints were long-term pain and discomfort at rest, respectively and thirdly recurrence. The setup was a retrospective two-centre study including patients ≥18 years undergoing primary elective open non-mesh sutured umbilical or epigastric hernia repairs. The survey included questions on suspicion of recurrence, reoperation for recurrence (if yes patients were examined by a consultant in patients home), pain, discomfort, work, and leisure activities. We analysed 295 consecutive patients through a non-validated structured questionnaire.

The study purpose is to examine polymorphism of genes associated to post-operative persistent pain and to verify the possible association between genotype phenotype and ADRB2 polymorphism in orthopaedic surgery. The primary aim is to evaluate the expression of ADBR2 in VAS>4 patients and to compare it to those with VAS<4.

This study will collect pain-related information from chronic pain patients to gain an understanding of the prevalence of multi-site pain, and how it affects health outcomes like function, quality of life, depression, and anxiety.

The treatment of postoperative pain continues to be inadequate in the investigators practice setting. Inadequate pain treatment not only contributes to postoperative complications in the short term but can also be a factor that favors the development of chronic postoperative pain and diminishes long-term quality of life. Risk factors that can lead to a transition to chronic pain need to be analyzed.
