This study will investigate (a) neural and immune mechanisms underlying chronic pain in PTLS by comparing a group of PTLS patients and healthy participants on brain imaging, sensory, and immune markers; and (b) assess change in pain, brain imaging (fMRI and MRS), sensory, and immune markers in response to a combination of SNRI and glutamatergic treatment for chronic pain in PTLS (Milnacipran and D-cycloserine).

This study was designed to evaluate the effect of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) in the resolution of Chronic Pain. Participants will be Veterans from the first Gulf War (GW1) who often suffer from chronic pain problems.

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the acute and chronic efficacy of spinal cord stimulation using the Precision implantable neurostimulation device with the Artisan paddle electrode in patients with Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS) and associated primary or secondary back or lower extremity pain. There are significant numbers of patients with FBSS who have moderate to severe drug refractory pain. An optimal outcome will demonstrate that the Precision SCS device has significant effectiveness in reducing this pain resulting in improved quality of life and functional capacity.

The goal of this research proposal is to determine if the intraoperative administrative of Ketamine and Magnesium during laparoscopic gynecologic surgery improves postoperative pain in patients on chronic opioid therapy for management of chronic pelvic pain.

This pilot study evaluates a collaborative care program to assist with opioid tapering in patients with chronic pain. Patients will be randomized to receive the intervention or usual care.

This research is being done to better understand how to help patients who are not receiving enough relief from opioid prescription medications for chronic non-cancer pain. Opioids are a group of medications that includes morphine, oxycodone-, hydrocodone-, etc. These medications are also called narcotics. Research has shown that patients not benefiting from their opioid prescription medication often feel better when they stop taking it. However, stopping or reducing pain medications can be a difficult transition. Although they do not have much benefit from their medication, many patients are afraid to stop because they feel these medications are the only things giving them a bit of relief. Different strategies can be used to help patients through the period of tapering and it is not clear which one is best. The investigators will test a specific approach used during regular care in the clinic: cognitive therapy.

The exploratory project aims to investigate the presence of pain as a long Covid-19 symptom in previously hospitalised patients and in non-hospitalised persons previously tested positive in a PCR test.

This is a non-randomized prospective study. Patients undergoing upper extremity and shoulder surgical procedures after trauma at SJHC and LHSC will be divided in to two groups. The first group will include those who receive a single shot brachial plexus (interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular and axillary) block with or without general anesthesia. The second group will be the control group and include those patients who receive general anesthesia only, without any block whether due to the preference of patient or the surgeon

Examine the use of low level therapeutic laser (LLLT) combined with physical therapy for improvements in pain, range of motion, and function in individuals with chronic pain from musculoskeletal conditions. Compare changes in pain, mobility, and ability to return to home/work/recreational activities between treatments with standard physical therapy plus LLLT or the standard physical therapy program alone.

Pediatric chronic pain is a prevalent condition with manifold treatment options. However, knowledge of targeted dissemination of intervention research findings is currently lacking. The aim of this project is to determine satisfaction with current knowledge transfer from science to clinical practice amongst health care professionals, adolescents with CPP and their parents and to understand what treatment options have been offered to patients in Swiss pain centers Three focus groups, one with health care professionals, one with adolescent patients, and one with their parents, will be conducted to determine how the dissemination of scientific evidence to clinical practice can be improved and what hurdles exists when gathering information about pain interventions. In addition, patients will be asked about the treatment options offered to them and health care professionals about which treatments they routinely prescribe and why.
