Effects of Herbal Mouth Rinse for Chronic Periodontitis
Chronic PeriodontitisThis double blind, randomized, placebo controlled, parallel clinical trial involved seventy five patients, suffering with chronic periodontitis, which were randomly divided in three groups: negative control (SRP+placebo), positive control (SRP+0.12% CHX), and test group (SRP+1% MTC mouth rinse). Mouth rinsing (adjunctive therapy) was continued for 1 month while clinical parameters [plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), sulcus bleeding index (SBI), probing pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL), gingival recession (GR), stain index (SI)] were evaluated at base line, 1 month, and 3 months. CFU was also evaluating at above said time periods.
Periocline as an Adjunct to Scaling and Root Planing for Adult Periodontitis
Adult PeriodontitisPeriodontal disease (commonly called gum disease) is generally treated by deep cleaning of the root surfaces of the teeth. This is also called scaling and root planing. Placing a topical antibiotic into the periodontal pocket at the time of scaling and root planing may help reduce pocket depth and thus help the periodontal disease. Periocline (minocycline HCl) 2.1% gel is a topical antibiotic approved in a number of countries for this use, and is now being tested in the US.
Nanocrystalline Hydroxyapatite Bone Substitute for Treating Periodontal Intrabony Defects
Chronic PeriodontitisThe present clinical trial included 20 patients (11 females and 9 males, aged 36 to 56 years) suffering from moderate or advanced chronic periodontitis. Subjects were recruited from the outpatient clinic, Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontology, Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University. This clinical trial was meant to assess clinically and radiographically the possible predictable results regarding the use of nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite bone graft substitute together with open flap debridement versus open flap debridement alone in the treatment of periodontal intrabony defects.
Serum Resistin Level Following Non-surgical Periodontal Therapy in Diabetic Patients With Chronic...
Type2 Diabetesnon-surgical periodontal debridement was performed for diabetic patients with chronic periodontitis as well as for non-diabetic patients but also with chronic periodontitis. Serum resistin level was assessed in the two groups before and after periodontal therapy and also was compared to a healthy control group.
Hyaluronic Acid With Scaling & Root Planing In Chronic Periodontitis Patients With Diabetes Mellitus...
Chronic PeriodontitisThe present study aimed to assess the adjunctive use of Hyaluronic acid with scaling & root planing (SRP) in patients with chronic periodontitis & diabetes mellitus type 2.
Randomized Clinical Trial of Enamel Matrix Derivative: Radiographic Analysis
Chronic PeriodontitisThis is a split-mouth, double-blind randomized controlled trial. Computerized linear radiographic measurements were used to detect infrabony defects treated with open flap debridement (OFD) or OFD associated with enamel matrix derivative (EMD), after 24 months. Ten patients presenting 2 or more defects were selected (43 defects). An individualized film holder was used to take standardized radiographs at baseline and after 24 months. Images were digitized and used to measure the distances from the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ) to the alveolar crest (AC), CEJ to the bottom of the defect (BD) and infrabony defect angle.
Comparison of Autogenous Periosteal Pedicle Graft and Collagen Membrane in Management of Periodontal...
Chronic PeriodontitisA clinical and radiographic evaluation of autogenous periosteal pedicle graft in comparison with collagen membrane for management of periodontal intrabony defects.
Impact of Periodontal Treatment on Serum Levels of Hepcidin and Hemoglobin
Chronic PeriodontitisPeriodontitis is an inflammatory/infectious disease of high prevalence in the population and which has been linked to several chronic inflammatory systemic diseases. However, few studies have evaluated the periodontal disease in the absence of other inflammatory conditions stimulate inflammatory markers as C-reactive protein (CRP), Interleukin - 6 (IL-6) hepcidin and hemoglobin. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of nonsurgical periodontal therapy on the change of inflammatory markers and anemia in control subjects and patients with chronic periodontitis after three months. This interventional study included 67 individuals of both sexes, aged 30-65 years, without other diseases, except chronic periodontitis, with at least 20 teeth, selected from a total 125 individuals following the eligibility criteria. Periodontal clinical parameters (probing depth, bleeding on probing, clinical attachment level) and systemic, hematological as well as inflammatory markers CRP, IL-6 and hepcidin were compared before and after nonsurgical periodontal therapy by serum and plasma examination of control individuals and patients with chronic periodontitis.
Photodynamic Therapy During Supportive Periodontal Therapy
Periodontal DiseasesChronic Periodontitis1 more27 subjects on SPT, each with at least two residual pockets ≥5mm, were recruited for this randomised, split-mouth controlled trial, providing a total of 72 sites. At baseline, probing pocket depth (PPD), recession, clinical attachment level (CAL), plaque and bleeding on probing (BOP) of all sites were examined. Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) were collected to determine level of cytokines IL-1β, -6, -8, TNF-α and MMP-8 via ELISA. Control sites received subgingival instrumentation and rubber cup polishing with pumice. In addition test sites received a single application of PDT using Fotosan® and photosensitizer consisting of toludine blue O solution. The subjects were recalled three and six months later and re-examined. Site level analysis was performed.
