Effect of Total Intravenous Anaesthesia With Propofol on Postoperative Pain After Bilateral Third...

Postoperative Pain

Propofol is one of the most commonly used intravenous anaesthetic drugs both for induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia. Some of the advantages of total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) with propofol include reduced nausea and vomiting, reduced atmospheric pollution, better wake up profile and a more favourable intracranial physiology. However, the need for a reliable intravenous access, specialized pumps, pain on injection and potential concerns regarding awareness are some reasons that preclude more common use. Postoperative dental pain produces an inflammatory pain model. Since propofol has anti-inflammatory effects, it may have significant analgesic effects in patients undergoing dental surgery. To the best of our knowledge, there are no randomized controlled trials comparing the effects of TIVA propofol and inhalational anaesthetic on postoperative dental pain. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of TIVA propofol on postoperative pain scores, analgesic consumption, and adverse effects in patients undergoing dental surgery. This will help determine whether propofol may be a useful analgesic adjunct in dental surgery.

Phase 2B Upper Extremity Nerve Block Study

Postoperative Pain

This is a Phase 2B, randomized, assessor-blind, active- and saline placebo-controlled, multicenter study in subjects undergoing augmentation mammoplasty to evaluate the analgesic efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics (PK) of HTX-011 when administered via ultrasound-guided lateral and medial pectoral nerve block before surgery.

Rebound Pain After Operations for Distal Radius Fractures With a Volar Plate in Brachial Plexus...

Brachial Plexus BlockPain1 more

Many patients have strong pain at brachial plexus block resolution after operations for distal radius fractures with a volar plate. This study investigates if a single dose of dexamethasone in addition to a standard pain regime have an effect on postoperative pain. The primary endpoint is difference in the highest pain score first 24 hours after surgery. The investigators will also look at pain scores and analgesics consumption first few hours after surgery and at different times up to 2 years after surgery.

High vs Low Dose Dexamethasone on Complications in the Immediate Postoperative Phase After Mastectomy...

DexamethasoneGlucocorticoids9 more

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of a single preoperative high-dose steroid injection on complications in the immediate postoperative phase after breast cancer surgery, with removal of the breast (mastectomy). Primary outcome is the proportion patients who require transfer to the post anaesthesia care unit (PACU) and the proportion that can be transferred directly to the ward. Secondary outcomes are organospecific complications in the postanesthesia phase, pain and nausea the first 5 days, seroma and wound infection the first 14 days and readmissions the first 30 days after surgery. The investigators hypothesize that the frequency of transfer to the PACU and organospecific complications will be lower among patients receiving high dose dexamethasone. The investigators hypothesize, that there will be no difference in wound infections, seroma or readmissions.

The Effects of Pre-operative Anxiety on Anesthetic Recovery and Post-operative Pain in Donor Nephrectomy...

Kidney TransplantationAnxiety3 more

Kidney transplant is the most effective choice of treatment for patients with end-stage kidney failure in terms of quality of life and longevity. Today, 20-25% of kidney transplantations are implemented with living donors. Donor nephrectomy is an operations which has the end goal of a living donor donating one of his kidneys to a patient with end-stage kidney failure (1). Pre-operative anxiety is a condition which is characterized by a random illness, being hospitalised, anesthesia, surgery, or uneasiness or anxiety stemming from not knowing what is to be experienced. Educating and informing in the pre-operative period is the first step in mentally preparing the patient for the operation. In some studies, it has been pointed out that patients who were thoroughly informed in the pre-operative period have lower anxiety levels both in the pre-operative and post-operative periods with also less levels of pain and increased recovery rates in the latter (2). Anesthetic recovery starts at the end of the surgical process and ends with the anesthetized patient completely regaining a wide-awake, responsive state, defensive reflex, and muscle strength. Post-operative pain is acute pain which starts with surgical trauma and ends with tissue healing (3). Providing optimal post-operative analgesia plays an important role in the prevention of post-operative complications (1,4,5). There are studies which examine the link between pre-operative anxiety and post-operative pain (59,74,74,77,78). Patients who will undergo a donor nephrectomy constitute a specific group of patients both because they are not operated due to a health problem that they have and because the operation results with them losing an organ. There are no prospective studies about the effects of pre-operative anxiety on anesthetic recovery and post-operative pain in individuals who have undergone donor nephrectomy in literature. Because of this, we have aimed to research prospectively the effects of pre-operative anxiety on anesthetic recovery and post-operative pain in patients that were to undergo donor nephrectomy surgery.

Gabapentin on Postoperative Pain Associated With Ureteroscopy and Stents Insertion

AnesthesiaUrethral Obstruction

The study's objective is to determine the efficacy of preoperative gabapentin in relieving postoperative pain, reducing opioid use and improving quality of recovery in subjects undergoing urologic surgery. Investigators hypothesize that subjects receiving gabapentin will have lower pain scores, less opioid consumption and better quality of recovery as compared to subjects who are given a placebo.

Cutaneous Anesthesia of the Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve

Nerve BlockAnesthesia6 more

The purpose of this study is to investigate and describe the anatomical differences in distribution of the blocked area following a perineural LFCN (Lateral Femoris Cutaneous Nerve) block with either 8 ml or 16 ml of Ropivacaine, in relation to incision lines used in THA (Total Hip Arthroplasty). Furthermore, we examine any loss of motor function in Musculus Quadriceps due to posible involvement of the Femoral Nerve. This trial will be conducted in healthy volunteers, as a blinded, randomized, paired trial.
