Association Between Urine Concentration Ability and the Progression of Chronic Kidney Disease
Chronic Kidney DiseaseThe study hypothesis is that urine concentrating ability can predict the rate of kidney function decline. Patients with kidney disease at the investigatorsclinic will be asked to give first morning urine sample and osmolarity will be measured. The investigators will follow up kidney function decline and check if there is association with urine osmolarity.
NGAL and Hepcidin Levels in Hemodialysis Patients in Assiut University Hospital
CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) Stage 5DTo assess the pattern of NGAL and Hepicidin in relation to anemia in End Stage Renal Disease Patients on regular hemodialysis in Assiut University Hospital and study the relation between both NGAL and Hepicidin.
Investigating the Immune System in chrONIC Kidney Disease.
Immune System DiseasesChronic Kidney DiseaseThis study will investigate the function of the immune system in people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) compared to people with normal kidneys. The investigators will use standard vaccines - the seasonal flu vaccine and pneumococcal polysaccharide (Pneumovax) vaccine - to examine how the immune system responds to challenge. All subjects will receive these recommended vaccines as part of routine care. Blood and urine samples will be collected and tested at different time points to look at how the immune response develops to these vaccines and if there are any differences between people with CKD and those without. This will help us understand how CKD affects the function of the immune system.
Evaluation of the Peritoneal Dialysis Program in a Hospital in Chinandega, Nicaragua.
Chronic Kidney DiseasePeritoneal DialysisThe purpose of this study is to develop recommendations to assist in improving the current peritoneal dialysis (PD) program in a Hospital in Chinandega, Nicaragua. This project will consist of a needs assessment, a review of aggregate quantitative patient data from hospital records, and a knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) assessment for medical providers, laboratory technicians, patients and primary caregivers. The final report will be used to obtain funding for the implementation of the recommendations.

Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver DiseaseChronic Kidney Disease1 moreThe present study investigates relationship between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and its risk factors, such as genetic background and diseases, such as chronic kidney disease and diabetes mellitus.
The QUALITY Vets Project: Muscle Quality and Kidney Disease
Chronic Kidney DiseaseSarcopeniaCurrently there is no standard way to detect age-related skeletal muscle loss in patients with chronic kidney disease. Investigators are working on finding rapid and inexpensive ways to measure muscle size and fat within the muscle.
Female Sexual Dysfunction in Renal Failure
Evaluations of Sexual Dysfunction of Female in Chronic Renal FailureA myriad of sexual problems affect men and women with chronic kidney disease (CKD), including decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, dysmenorrhea, and infertility. Menstrual abnormalities are common in CKD and many women are an-ovulatory . Causes of sexual dysfunction in CKD include hormonal alterations along with vascular, neurologic, psychogenic, and other factors, such as medications, contribute to the development of sexual dysfunction . Sexual dysfunction in females is mainly due to hormonal factors and manifests mainly as menstrual irregularities, amenorrhea, lack of vaginal lubrication, and failure to conceive.
Impact of CKD on Children and Their Families
CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) Stage 5DBased on the available literatures, previous studies have investigated the impact of CKD and dialysis on patient's health among adult and elderly population. As far as we know, this is the first empirical study that investigates the impact of CKD on children functional capacity and their families QOL.
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Chronic Kidney Disease
Renal Disorder Associated With Type II Diabetes MellitusTo investigate the effect of co existance of diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease on basic coagulation profile in comparison with diabetic patients with normal kidney function and non diabetic patients with chronic kidney disease
BRINK (BRain In Kidney Disease) Memory Study 2.0
Chronic Kidney DiseasesDementia11 moreIn this study, the investigators will be looking at results of tests of memory and thinking and daily activities in a group of people without known chronic kidney disease (CKD) , and a group of CKD patients, and follow the participants for up to four more years, including after the participants start dialysis or receive a transplant. The investigators are doing this study to compare how often memory loss, confusion and difficulty with daily activities occur in those without and those with CKD. Additionally, the investigators are doing this study to identify risk factors for memory and thinking problems in CKD patients. The information received through the NDI will be utilized to help track our study population and help provide useful information regarding cause of death of those in our study.
