Bevacizumab and Interleukin-2 in Treating Patients With Metastatic Kidney Cancer
Kidney CancerRATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Bevacizumab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Interleukin-2 may stimulate the white blood cells to kill tumor cells. Giving bevacizumab together with interleukin-2 may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving bevacizumab together with interleukin-2 works in treating patients with metastatic kidney cancer.

Renal Cell CarcinomaThis pilot clinical trial compares the imaging results of contrast-enhanced ultrasound to contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT), the current clinical standard, in predicting treatment response in patients with kidney cancer undergoing cryosurgery (a procedure in which an extremely cold liquid or an instrument called a cryoprobe is used to freeze and destroy abnormal tissue). Using contrast-enhanced ultrasound that does not involve a dye may help patients avoid side effects from a dye that is usually used in MRI or CT and may help doctors measure blood flow and determine whether the cryosurgery procedure treated the kidney tumor.
