Hematopoietic Stem Cell TransplantationCognitive Impairments4 moreCognitive impairment (such as memory problems) due to cancer and its treatment can interfere with quality of life and can linger long after treatment has ended, yet research examining cognitive rehabilitation approaches has produced limited clinical benefit. The proposed study will provide information about systematic light exposure for the treatment of cognitive impairment in hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) survivors and will investigate how it works. This study would facilitate the development of this potential treatment, giving health care providers and cancer survivors a much-needed tool to help with cancer-related cognitive impairment.

Investigating the Impact of Alzheimer's Disease Diagnostics in British Columbia
Alzheimer DiseaseDementia2 moreThe 'Investigating the Impact of Alzheimer's Disease Diagnostics in British Columbia' (IMPACT-AD BC) study is an observational, longitudinal cohort study that will examine the impact of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) testing for core Alzheimer's disease biomarkers on clinical decision making, diagnosis and health system utilization. In addition to data collection from physicians, the study will engage patients and their care partners in assessing the value of biomarker testing. IMPACT-AD BC investigators hypothesize that testing for CSF biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease in individuals with cognitive impairment, as part of routine clinical care, improves clinical management, diagnostic certainty, diagnostic accuracy, and healthcare resource utilization, and that patients and their care partners find the information valuable in planning for the future.

Art Museum Program for Seniors With Cognitive Disorders and Care-partners
DementiaAs the population ages, there is increasing interest in developing innovative approaches to promote and sustain mental and emotional well-being. Recent studies have linked engagement with the arts with supporting cognitive functioning, promoting empathy and greater sense of life purpose. The need to develop alternative approaches to sustain emotional well-being is especially acute for the nearly 6 million older Americans who suffer from Alzheimer's disease. There is a need for quality activities that can be done virtually for homebound individuals with cognitive disorders and the individuals' family care-partners. The investigators intend to institute a 3-session virtual art museum pilot program for seniors with cognitive disorders and care-partners using the Visual Thinking Strategies approach. The investigators hypothesize that participation in a virtual guided visual arts experience will enhance emotional well-being and self-esteem for both seniors with cognitive impairment and the seniors' care-partners.

Parkinson's DiseaseThe present pilot study is designed to assess the extent to which rasagiline may improve cognition in Parkinson's disease patients requiring dopaminergic therapy. The primary objective is to assess improvement in the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) in patients who have been on rasagiline at 1mg daily for twelve weeks. The secondary objective is to assess changes in the SCOPA-COG, FAB, and UPDRS II & III at the end of week 14.

Cognitive Engagement and Aging Mind
Age-related Cognitive DeclineThe purpose of this research is to examine whether and to what extent training of different types of cognitive engagement will improve performance on fluid cognitive abilities that typically decline with age. The research covered by this protocol will use behavioral data that yield response latencies and accuracies of the untrained tasks, and brain activations in fMRI tasks, to test specific hypotheses about neural plasticity and cognitive plasticity from these engagement techniques. Hence, human subjects will be employed in an experiment lasting for 20 hours spanning over 2 months where they will either receive real-time strategy-based videogame training or crystallized intelligence training. In addition, long-term retention data will be obtained after 6 month post-training to investigate any long-term benefits.

The Investigators will administer speech tasks and cognitive assessments to participants with Parkinson's disease and healthy controls. The Investigators will also explore the associations between genetic factors and speech and cognitive status in Parkinson's disease.
