The Cohort Study of Cognitive Impairment in Chinese Hemodialysis Patients

Cognitive ImpairmentHemodialysis Complication2 more

This study is going to apply neuropsychological battery tests to measure cognitive function across multiple cognitive domains in our cohort of 600 maintenance hemodialysis patients and evaluate: The presence and patterns of cognitive impairment in domains of executive function, perceptual-motor function, language, learning and memory, and complex attention; Clinical characteristics of participants with and without cognitive impairment; the risk factors which might be related to cognitive impairment in this group of population; The association between cognitive impairment and all-cause mortality, stroke and non-fatal cardiovascular events; We hypothesize that hemodialysis patient is going to have cognitive impairment which might be associated with some risk factors. We also anticipate that cognitive impairment might have some kind of association with the clinical outcomes like all-cause mortality, stroke and other common clinical outcomes that we mentioned above.

Comparisons of gaIt aNalyses pERformance Between the Gaitrite walkwaYs

Gait ApraxiaAlzheimer Disease1 more

The GAITRite® system is an instrumented with resistive pressure sensors gait analyzer. It was first validate in 2001 against paper-and-pencil (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC] > 95%) for spatial measures and against video-based (ICC > 93%) for temporal measures, and was thus a reliable tools to measure step lengths and times in both walkway center and left-of-center measurements. It was considered as one of the gold standards in gait analyses. This gait analyze system may distinguish prospectively faller and non-faller older adults, but it can detect spatial, temporal, and spatiotemporal measures of gait and greater variability of gait parameters which were associated with and predictive of both global- and domain-specific cognitive decline. Moreover, spatiotemporal gait parameters analyzed using GAITRite® were more disturbed in the advanced stages of dementia, and more affected in the non-AD dementia than in AD suggesting that quantitative gait parameters could be used as a surrogate marker for improving the diagnosis of dementia. Nevertheless, GAITRite® is not a unique system and it comprises different walkways. One of these technologies was a roll-up system (platinum plus classic, RE, Basic and Safari), and the other was a system composed by a changeable association of plates (CIRFACE). In order to ensure a good comparability between studies using these different walkways, it appears important to compare the performances of these walkways in gait analysis. Thus, the main aim of this study was to compare the performances in gait analyze between the GAITRite® platinum plus classic and the GAITRite® CIRFACE among older adults. Secondary aims were to compare these parameters among patients with cognitive complaint, minor or major neurocognitive disorder (NCD) related to Alzheimer disease.

Smart Cupboard-based System for Memory Assessment in Alzheimer's Patients

Alzheimer DiseaseCognitive Decline

The main objective of the research is to create a tool that can make a good diagnosis of cognitive abilities in Alzheimer's patients. As a secondary objective, the investigators intend to examine both the percentage of correct answers and the response times and see their relationship with age, gender, sex, months since the onset of the disease and years of training.

Kinesiophobia, Quality of Life, and Cognitive Functions in Fibromyalgia Syndrome

FibromyalgiaKinesiophobia1 more

Although one of the most evidence-based treatment protocols is based on exercise strategies in patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome, fear and avoidance of physical activity; named 'Kinesiophobia' may hinder the patients from the exercises. Cognitive dysfunctions are seen frequently in Fibromyalgia Syndrome. The aim of this study, to assess the relationship between kinesiophobia and cognitive functions, disease severity, quality of life, physical activity level, pain intensity, and anxiety/depression level in Fibromyalgia patients. Additionally, the investigators aimed to compare the kinesiophobia level and cognitive functions between patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome and control subjects.

Sedation and Postoperative Cognitive Functions

Cognitive ImpairmentFemoral Fractures

Patients over the age of 65 who underwent elective surgery for a hip fracture and were sedated during spinal anesthesia were included in the study. Patients who were given ketamine and dexmedetomidine for sedation were included in the study. The Mini Mental Status Tests of the patients measured on the first and third days of the operation in the preoperative period were determined from the hospital records and recorded.

Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction in Heart Surgery

Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction

To determine the rate of Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction (POCD) in the early and late postoperative periods by comparing the preop and postop period mini mental status tests in participants undergoing open heart surgery, and to compare the results of the investgators clinic with the world literature.

Virtual Reality Stimulation to Enhance Cognitive Function of Intensive Care Unit Patients

Cognitive ImpairmentMild1 more

An observational study will be conducted in the ICU (Intensive care unit) including patients with heart surgery (< 5 days) and prolonged ICU stay (> 5 days). Patients will receive 5 min Virtual reality stimulation per day. A modified version of the Oculus Rift VR glasses (Facebook inc., USA) with stereoscopic vision and stereo sound will be used to present the virtual world to patients. An integrated eye tracker will measure oculomotor responses that will be synchronized with the physiological data recording. All participants will undergo neuropsychological testing after ICU stay, and after a three-months follow-up. Quality of life prior to the ICU stay will be enquired from relatives. Main outcome variable is the explorative behaviour (attention). Secondary outcomes are the quality of life and cognitive functioning.
