Mild Cognitive ImpairmentDementia; Alzheimer's Type (Etiology)When dementia is caused by AD, we refer to it as dementia of the Alzheimer's Type (DAT). The greatest risk factor for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and DAT is advancing age, but DAT is not a normal part of aging. Studies have shown that changes in the brain happen before full symptoms of DAT develop. These changes include a buildup of two proteins within the brain, called amyloid and tau. The two goals of this study are (1) to determine whether patients with mild cognitive impairment or dementia-Alzheimer's type (DAT) are able to demonstrate decisional capacity to engage in PET amyloid and tau disclosure after receiving education; and (2) to assess how patients and care partners react to PET amyloid and tau biomarker disclosure.

Mild Cognitive ImpairmentThis is a single center imaging study that will recruit 60 participants who are enrolled in the Effect of a Ketogenic Diet on Alzheimer's Disease Biomarkers and Symptoms: Brain Energy for Amyloid Transformation in AD (BEAT-AD) Study protocol. This cohort of patients will receive a maximum of 3 [11C]Acetoacetate (AcAc)/[18F]Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET scans over 18 weeks as part of this supplemental trial.
Palliative Care for Persons With ADRD and CI in SNF
Advance Care PlanningPalliative Care2 moreAlzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) are serious, life limiting illnesses with no known cure. Dementia is the fifth-leading cause of death in older adults and the majority of people with advanced dementia die in nursing homes (NHs). Miller et al reported that 40% of U.S. NH residents dying with advanced dementia received Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) care in the last 90 days of life, and receipt of this care was associated significantly with poorer end-of-life outcomes, including a higher risk of dying in a hospital, compared to decedents with no SNF care. SNF care is a Medicare post-acute rehabilitation service delivered in NHs focused on intense rehabilitation and/or aggressive, disease-modifying therapies. Regardless of life expectancy, use of SNF care precludes access to Hospice services. Palliative care (PC) offers an evidence-based alternative.

Assessing and Improving the Durability of Compensatory Cognitive Training for Older Veterans
Mild Cognitive ImpairmentVeterans have numerous risk factors (e.g., PTSD, TBI, cerebrovascular problems) for later-life cognitive and functional decline. Evidence supports the effectiveness of strategy-based cognitive rehabilitation therapies, including compensatory cognitive training (CCT), for such decline. However, questions remain about the length of time that CCT-driven improvements in cognitive and everyday function last, and whether additional 'booster' training sessions could provide additional benefit to aging Veterans who previously underwent treatment. This study examines the long-term durability of CCT in Veterans aged 55+ and provides an opportunity to develop and pilot test a series of CCT booster sessions that can be personalized toward individual everyday functional goals.

The purpose of the proposed program is to refine Miro Health's A.I. to accurately detect, differentiate and diagnose MCI and LLD.

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in PregnancyCognitive Impairment1 moreThe bi-directional dynamic cohort study is to learn about the effects of prenatal exposure to high blood glucose levels and postnatal nurturing environment factors on delayed language development in children. The study investigated the results of blood glucose screening during pregnancy for the children's mothers, and followed up on the blood glucose management effectiveness of pregnant women with abnormal blood glucose levels before delivery. Participants will be also surveyed the "S-S method for language development assessment, "gsell Scale", and "0-6 year-old family nurturing environment evaluation scale" to evaluate the language development and family nurturing environment.

Cognitive ImpairmentGliomaThe TRUE-GRIT study will assess the feasibility of a study protocol investigating the efficacy of a combination therapy consisting of cognitive strategy training (CST) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to reduce cognitive impairment in adult glioma patients. This study is part of the GRIP-project, a project aimed at investigating interventions for improving quality of life in brain tumor patients.
Improving Sleep and AD Biomarkers
Mild Cognitive ImpairmentAlzheimer DiseaseThe purpose of this research is to learn whether a dietary citicoline supplement will impact sleep and cognition. Cognitive disorders include such things as memory disorders and mild cognitive impairment. The investigators are studying persons with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). For this population, the team will assess whether citicoline also impacts biomarkers, a marker of the patient's biological state, in their body. The investigators are interested in learning more about a dietary supplement called citicoline and how it helps sleep, cognition, and markers of Alzheimer's. Previous studies have evaluated this dietary supplement and shown that citicoline may impact cognitive decline. The investigator would like to evaluate if citicoline will also impact sleep and markers of Alzheimer's. This dietary supplement has been assessed in older adults and found to be well tolerated. Citicoline has been used safely in cognitive impairment populations at the same dosage.
