An Intervention to Decrease Infant Crying
ColicThis is a study looking at the Happiest Baby on the Block technique. The investigators hypothesized that infants of mothers given a 30 minute videotape demonstrating the Happiest Baby on the Block technique would fuss/cry less and sleep longer than infants of mothers given a 30 minute videotape on general newborn care. The investigators also hypothesized that mothers given the Happiest Baby on the Block videotape would have lower levels of stress.
Effects of Acupuncture in the Treatment of Infant Colic
Infant ColicStandardized acupuncture treatment for infant colic is a common treatment in general practice for doctors educated in medical acupuncture. The investigators plan to study whether the perceived opinion on positive results can be verified in a multi-center clinical trial. The investigators aim to measure the effect of standardized acupuncture treatment, three repeated sessions, on infant colic in a randomized singe blinded prospective multi-center study, starting September 2009. The study will be done in thirteen locations in Norway by specialists in General Practice trained in acupuncture. The investigators intend to include a total of 130 patients, 65 in the intervention group and 65 in the control group.
Randomized Placebo-controlled Study of L. Reuteri NCIMB 30351 in GI Functional Disorders and Food...
Infantile ColicConstipation2 moreThis study is a randomized, placebo-controlled, single-masked (blinded), post-marketing clinical study of a drug Lactobacillus Reuteri NCIMB 30351 drops in functional disorders of gastrointestinal tract and skin symptoms of food allergies in children between the ages of one and four months inclusive. The aim of the study is to assess clinical effects of probiotics Lactobacillus Reuteri NCIMB 30351 drops on the symptoms of infantile colic, constipation, diarrhea, gastroesophageal reflux, atopic dermatitis/eczema in full-term newborns during the first months of life, laboratory parameters of microbiome will also be assessed. A prospective study comparing two treatment groups: Group 1 (treatment group) - 60 infants. Group 2 (control group) - 30 infants, placebo. The study drug will be taken in 1 time per day within 25 days. Allowed symptomatic therapy includes defoamers (simethicone-based preparations), carminative preparations (dill water (fennel)), etc.
Analgesic Effect of Erector Spinae Plane Block for Renal Colic Pain
Renal ColicPlane blocks have become very popular in recent years with the introduction of ultrasonography into the regional anesthesia and algology practice. Erector spinae plane (ESP) block involves the injection of local anesthetics between erector spinae muscles and transverse process of vertebrae and can block the dorsal and ventral rami of thoracolumbar spinal nerves. The aim of this study was to evaluate the analgesic efficacy of the erector spine plane block for reno-ureteral colic.
Efficacy Study of Different Analgesic Options in Kidney Stone Pain Management
Renal ColicUrinary CalculiAbdominal pain is one of the most common presentations to an emergency department (ED). Among patients presenting with abdominal pain, a common diagnosis in the Middle East is renal colic (urolithiasis or Kidney stones). As the patients with renal colic writhe around in agonizing pain, the first priority in an ED from a patient's perspective is fast and safe analgesia and to be pain free as early as possible. There are variations in physician preference to choose initial analgesic drug for managing such pain. Commonly used drugs are: Opioids such as Morphine or Fentanyl Non steroidal drugs such as Diclofenac, Ketorolac or Brufen and Paracetamol intravenous injection. A robust evidence in comparison of diclofenac versus morphine and paracetamol is lacking. This study is design to obtain data on efficacy of these three drugs within 30 minutes in a non inferiority trail.
Chiropractic Manual Therapy in Infantile Colic

Lactobacillus Reuteri DSM 17938 Versus Placebo in the Treatment of Infantile Colic
ColicInfantile colic is a common medical condition which remains a frustrating problem for parents and health care providers with no clear treatment guidelines. To fill the void in existing literature, we present a protocol to examine whether probiotics are effective in decreasing infantile colic symptoms when compared to placebo treatment. We hypothesize that oral administration of the probiotic L. reuteri DSM 17938 will reduce symptoms of infantile colic in breastfed infants in comparison to placebo. An interim analysis will be conducted after 50 infants randomized to monitor both safety and efficacy.
Buprenorphine in Acute Renal Colic Pain Management
Acute Pain ManagementRenal ColicThe purpose of this study is to determine whether sublingual Buprenorphine is as effective as Iv Morphine sulfate on pain control of the patients with acute renal colic in the emergency department.
The Effect of Chiropractic Treatment of Infantile Colic
Infantile ColicInfantile colic is condition that affects more than 10% of babies and their families. The reason, and hence proper treatment, for this condition is unknown and many causes have been suggested. One of the treatments that parents choose is chiropractic manipulation. In Denmark, almost 10,000 babies are each year treated by chiropractors, and a high proportion is due to colic. However, the effect of chiropractic treatment of infantile colic has not been properly scientifically evaluated. The effects of chiropractic treatment on infantile colic needs to be investigated, since this is a very common disorder with no known effective treatment, but with good empirical evidence of the value of chiropractic treatment. Although it is usually considered to be a benign and self-limiting condition, some studies suggest there might be long-term effects in terms of psychomotor problems. In worst case, the infants' crying may also lead to violence and 'shaken baby syndrome'. Null hypothesis: There is no effect of chiropractic treatment on the course of infantile colic. This study is a controlled, clinical trial where infants fulfilling the diagnostic criteria for colic will be randomized into two groups. One group will receive treatment and the other won't. This will determine the overall effect and furthermore, subgroup analyses will be performed to identify possible subgroups of infants, who will benefit the most from the treatment.
Lactocare Baby Drops in Infants Colic
Infant ColicThe objective of this study is to determine an efficacy of the combination of L. rhamnosus 19070-2 (FloraActiveTM) and L. reuteri DSM 122460 (FloraActiveTM) in decreasing cry/fuss in infants aged 4 through 12 weeks with IC. The active group of infants will receive lactobacilli with vitamin D3 while the control group will receive vitamin D3 2 times daily as oil suspension for 28 days. Duration of infant fuss/cry will be measured at baseline and at the end of intervention to define a difference between the groups
