It is not yet known which chemotherapy regimen is more effective for colorectal cancer.

Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of vaccine therapy with or without sargramostim in treating patients who have advanced or metastatic cancer. Vaccines may make the body build an immune response to kill tumor cells. Colony-stimulating factors such as sargramostim may increase the number of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood. Combining vaccine therapy with sargramostim may make tumor cells more sensitive to the vaccine and may kill more tumor cells

RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining radiation therapy with chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of radiation therapy plus irinotecan in treating patients with colon cancer that is recurrent or that cannot be removed surgically.

Colon Cancer

CROSCO-1 study is a national, multi-center, prospective observational study presenting patients to the emergency departments of the participating centers with obstructive left colon cancer (in the absence of metastases and peritoneal carcinomatosis) undergoing primary surgical tumor resection with a primary colorectal anastomosis (associated or not with a diverting loop ileostomy) or without a primary anastomosis ("Hartmann's procedure") or staged resection after endoscopic stenting with Self-expandable Metallic Stent (SEMS). The main questions it aims to answer are: the Stoma rate at 1 year after tumor resection the 30-day and 90-day major morbidity and mortality 1-year quality of life (EQ-5D-5L test) Timing of chemotherapy initiation and type of chemotherapy regimen. Participants will have an obstructive left colon cancer localized (no peritoneal carcinosis or distant metastasis). Researchers will compare: primary surgical tumor resection with a primary colorectal anastomosis (associated or not with a diverting loop ileostomy) or an "Hartmann's procedure" with a staged resection after endoscopic stenting with SEMS.

CME Versus Standard Right Hemicolectomy for Right Sided Cancers

Our aim of this study is to compare the difference in lymph node yield in CME specimens versus those patients having a standard right hemicolectomy for right sided cancer .The secondary aim of this study was to investigate whether there is an interaction between greater lymph node harvest towards increased survival. Another subgroup analysis of this study is to compare the complications and oncological outcome between laparoscopic versus Robotic CME. Physical activity has emerged as a potential lifestyle intervention to reduce cancer recurrence and improve survival among people with colon cancer (CC). This pilot study aims to identify the dose-response effects of aerobic exercise on molecular and cellular pathways associated with physical activity and CC outcomes among patients with stage II and III CC.

Colon Adenocarcinoma

This pilot clinical trial studies how well carbon C 14 oxaliplatin microdosing assay works in predicting exposure and sensitivity to oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy in patients with colorectal cancer that has spread to other places in the body and usually cannot be cured or controlled with treatment. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as oxaliplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Carbon C 14 is a radioactive form of carbon, exists in nature and in the body at a low level. Microdose carbon C 14 oxaliplatin diagnostic assay may help doctors understand how well patients respond to treatment and develop individualize oxaliplatin dosing in patients with colorectal cancer.
