Active clinical trials for "Constipation"

Patients undergoing routine rectal suction biopsy will undergo as part of the study an additional Endoscopic mucosal resection. The biopsy results will also be correlated with patient's clinical data including clinical history, Bristol stool scale, anorectal manometry results, and SITZ marker studies. Cost and recovery time will be compared.

The purpose of this study is to determine if there will be a significantly higher incidence of a bowel movement with methylnaltrexone vs. placebo within 4 hours +- 45 minutes with decreased need for rescue medications in the intensive care unit in patients with opioid-induced constipation. RATIONALE: Probiotic therapy may reduce or prevent gastrointestinal complications in patients undergoing chemotherapy and pelvic radiation therapy. RATIONALE: The use of a nicotine inhaler may help decrease appetite and relieve "hunger pain" (an intense craving for food) in patients with malignant bowel obstruction caused by cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying the side effects and how well a nicotine inhaler works in treating "hunger pain" in patients with malignant bowel obstruction caused by cancer.
