Trial of Patient Navigation-Activation
Breast CancerColorectal CancerThe University of Rochester, Department of Family Medicine, funded by the National Cancer Institute will train community health workers to guide patients through the cancer care system. The project will help to teach patients how to communicate more effectively with their health care team in order to understand the treatment options available to them. Although not widely available, it is believed patient navigation programs are beneficial. This research study will evaluate how well this tool works, especially among those who experience disparities in health care. The goal is to determine if having a trained navigator shortens the time between an abnormal test result and a definitive diagnosis and between a definitive diagnosis and completion of treatment for breast and colorectal cancer patients. The project also will evaluate whether navigation improves the ability to communicate with the doctor, patient satisfaction with care and quality of life.
Alpha-type-1 Dendritic Cell-based Vaccines in Patients With Metastatic Colorectal Cancer
Metastatic Colorectal CancerThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the administration, safety and immunologic effectiveness of an experimental vaccine for colorectal cancer patients.
"Touch 2 Screen" Multi-media Colorectal Cancer Screening Intervention
Colorectal CancerThe primary purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of a multi-media presentation and survey to increase screening for colorectal cancer. Content of this presentation is based on the concept of "implementation intentions," an advanced planning model taken from the Theory of Planned Behavior. The multi-media presentation is delivered in a touch-screen computer format and contains messages about colorectal cancer that are tailored to each participant based on individual survey responses. It is hypothesized that tailored messages and defining implementation intentions may have a relationship with completion of colorectal cancer screening.
Coordinated Endoscopic Colorectal Cancer Screening
Preventive Health ServicesThe investigators aim to use a randomized design to test the effects of 1) tailored physician recommendations, relative to non-specific recommendations, and 2) coordinated physician office management systems on patient adherence to colorectal cancer screening recommendations.
Phase II Trial of Aprepitant & Palonosetron for CINV Prevention w FOLFOX
Colorectal CancerNausea and VomitingRATIONALE: Aprepitant, palonosetron, and dexamethasone may help lessen or prevent nausea and vomiting in patients receiving chemotherapy. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving aprepitant together with palonosetron and dexamethasone works in preventing nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy in patients receiving chemotherapy for metastatic colorectal cancer.
Study of the Results of Education and Counseling for Persons Undergoing Genetic Testing for Hereditary...
Colorectal CancerRATIONALE: Identifying family and individual characteristics may help plan education and counseling for patients who are considering genetic testing. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying education and counseling to see what effect they have in patients who are undergoing genetic testing for hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer (recruitment of new families with HNPCC stopped as of 04-26-06, recruitment of persons within families already participating continues).
Low Literacy Intervention for Colorectal Cancer Screening
Colorectal CancerOf 17 performance measures of hospital quality regularly reported for the Veterans Administration (VA) health care system, rates of colorectal cancer screening are the lowest.
Fasting-mimicking Diet in Patients Undergoing Active Cancer Treatment
CancerBreast Cancer1 moreThis is a pilot, single arm prospective trial assessing feasibility, safety and effects on patient nutritional status of a 5-day fasting-mimicking diet (FMD) in patients with different cancer types and concomitant anticancer treatment.
Predictors of Physical Activity Maintenance in Colorectal Cancer Survivors
Colorectal CancerThis study is a two-arm trial, comparing the effects of a virtual 12-week group-based exercise intervention vs. control group on physical activity, physical fitness, and quality of life in colorectal cancer survivors, and explore multi-level determinants of physical activity maintenance, 6-months after intervention completion.
