Cancer Stem Cell Markers and Prognostic Markers in Circulating Tumor Cells

Colorectal Cancer

The study will enroll patients with metastatic colorectal cancer receiving chemotherapy. A total of approximately 22 cc of blood will be drawn during various chemotherapy infusions. Additional proposed laboratory studies may unravel important biological insights into the relationship of circulating tumor cell genomic and genetic profiles as they compare to the primary tumors. Additionally the investigators hope to gain an understanding of potential subgroups of patients that have very high numbers of circulating tumor cells or those with early relapse of circulating tumor cells after early reduction of circulating tumor cell numbers.

Do Patients With Colorectal Cancer Understand That Their Family is at Risk?

Colorectal Cancer

The purpose of this study is to assess whether patients with colorectal cancer understand that their first-degree relatives are at increased risk of getting the cancer themselves and therefore should be screened early. Among patients who do understand the risks to their family, we plan to determine who they identify as the source of their information and whether they have acted upon this information and advised family members to be screened. We hypothesize that many patients with colorectal cancer do not have a correct understanding of the risks to their first-degree relatives and the recommendations that they be screened early. If this hypothesis is shown to be true, it can be used to direct improved and more diligent patient education. This, in turn, will hopefully increase the low screening rates among first-degree relatives, and, thereby, save lives in this high-risk population.

The Effect of Ketamine on Immune Function and Prognosis in Patients Undergoing Colorectal Cancer...

Colorectal Cancer

Systemic inflammation caused by surgery may aggravate immunosuppression in immunocompromised cancer patients. The natural killer (NK) cell is a critical part of anti-tumor immunity. ketamine, a N-methyl-D-asparate receptor antangonist, has anti-inflammatory activity and opioid-sparing effect. This study investigate the effect of intraopertaive ketamine administration on immune function in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal cancer resection.

Lifestyle Changes Using Digital Technology in Colorectal Cancer

Life StyleColo-rectal Cancer

The objective of this small study is to assess the feasibility of remotely delivering a diet and lifestyle intervention following treatment of CRC through telecommunications and digital technology. A DBCI will be implemented among a population of people living with and beyond CRC to help identify if patients find this an easy and achievable way to communicate with a Registered Dietitian. The information gained from this small scale feasibility will be used to help develop a larger study on supporting people with CRC to make a lifestyle change.

Quality of Life of Colorectal Cancer Screenees in the Period Between Colonoscopy and Next Clinic...

Colorectal NeoplasmsColonoscopy3 more

Colorectal cancer screening program has been proven to reduce colorectal cancer (CRC) mortality and is cost-effective. It has been adopted by most countries in the world, and colonoscopy is regarded as the most accurate test for detecting colorectal neoplasm. After screenees underwent colonoscopy, most endoscopists do not routinely explain the preliminary optical diagnosis to the subjects before they going home, which may cause unnecessary anxiety and may reduce the quality of life of the subjects before acquiring the final results. In recent years, endoscopic optical diagnostic technology has been validated by meta-analysis studies as an excellent tool to predict the histology of colorectal polyps and to differentiate the invasion depth of colorectal cancer. The real time feature of endoscopic optical diagnosis allows endoscopists to explain the preliminary results confidently to the subjects immediately after colonoscopy, which is expected to reduce the anxiety of the subjects before they acquired the final results and improve their quality of life. We designed a randomized controlled trial to validate whether real-time endoscopic optical diagnosis could decrease the anxiety burden and improve the quality of life for colorectal-cancer screenees after colonoscopy.

"The Impact of Immunonutrition on Gut Microbiota-related Aspects in Colorectal Cancer and Gastric...

Gastric CancerColorectal Cancer

Enteral immunomodulating nutrition modifies the gastrointestinal microbiota as well as improves the intestinal barrier integrity in patients with gastric and colorectal cancer in the perioperative period. As a consequence, it contributes to the reduction of the incidence of postoperative complications and diarrhea, which is a side effect of anti-cancer treatment often used preoperatively in this group of cancers.

Split Dose Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) + Clear Fluids Versus Split Dose PEG + Low-Residue Diet

Colorectal Cancer

The objective of the study is to examine the effect of adding a strict low-residue lunch on the day before colonoscopy has on clinical efficacy and patient tolerability of bowel preparation, with patients receiving split-dose Polyethylene Glycol Based Lavage. The primary outcomes will be 1) quality of preparation in cleansing the colon and 2) patient satisfaction

Evaluation of Ocoxin®-Viusid® in Metastatic Colorectal Adenocarcinoma

Colorectal NeoplasmIntestinal Neoplasms7 more

The research product, registered as a nutritional supplement (Ocoxin®, oral solution), manufactured by Laboratorios Catalysis S. L., comes in the form of single-dose vials of 30 ml. It will be used at a rate of 60 ml daily (1 vial every 12 hours). Our main objective is To evaluate the effect of Ocoxin®-Viusid® on the quality of life of patients with metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma. Our hypothesis is that the administration of the nutritional supplement Ocoxin®-Viusid® it is expected to improve the quality of life and enhance tolerance to chemotherapy in at least 70% of patients.
