Impact of Surgical Technique on Post-operative Complications in Urgency Ostomy Confection

Colostomy StomaColostomy Complication4 more

This is a single-center retrospective cohort study on cancer patients who underwent emergency ostomy. Our objective was to compare the incidence of surgical complications as well as the length of hospital stay among three different techniques for ostomy confection (laparotomy, the conventional local approach, described as trephination, and laparoscopy).

Predictors, Risk Factors and Outcome Following Major Surgery

Surgical ProcedureUnspecified1 more

This is a multicentre, prospective, observational cohort study. Consecutive patients, operated in six University Hospitals in Sweden will be recruited following major surgical procedure. The length of patient recruitment period will be 12 weeks. The length of follow up will be 360 days . The objectives are to determine the postoperative morbidity (during the hospital stay), the survival (0-360 days), to identify risk factors for adverse outcomes and to identify risk factors that may potentially be influenced by any intervention in the future. Amendments: The follow-up of mortality is extended to 3 years of the cohort The mortality of the background population at 30 and 90 Days will be analyzed Validation of the Surgical Outcome Risk Tool in the study cohort and in the background population are planned

Postoperative Complications After Cleft Palate Closure in Patients With Pierre Robin Sequence: Operative...

Pierre Robin SyndromeCleft Palate

In cleft surgery there is no current general agreement on the treatment strategy of patients with the Pierre Robin Sequence. The timing of surgery and the surgical approach depends on the treating physician or the hospital facility. Literature regarding peri- and postoperative complications in the target population are lacking. The investigators aim to retrospectively review the charts of all cleft patients, both PRS and non-PRS, treated with an adapted Furlow palatoplasty between 01/01/2011 and 31/08/2015. The incidence of peri- and postoperative complications, with a specific focus on respiratory complications, will be examined. The value of demographic, surgical and postoperative parameters will be examined as potential risk factors for the development of complications.

Effect of Goal-directed Fluid Therapy on Postoperative Complications

Liver DiseasesPancreas Disease

It has been known that the recent application of a goal-directed fluid therapy (GDFT) to the intraoperative fluid infusion in patients contributes to decreasing the prevalence of postoperative complications and shortening the length of study in the intensive care unit as well as hospital stay compared with conventional methods. Laparoscopic surgery is in a trend that its application is being expanded recently, but there has been no report on the application of GDFT to laparoscopic surgery so far. To this end, this study aims to apply the intraoperative GDFT protocol in patients undergoing laparoscopic hepatobiliary or pancreatic surgery and to find out whether there is any difference in postoperative recovery and incidences of postoperative complications, by comparing with patients applied with the fluid therapy using existing conventional methods

Perioperative Portal Vein Pulsatility as a Postoperative Prognostic Indicator in Pulmonary Endarterectomy...

Pulmonary HypertensionThromboembolism4 more

The investigators aim to evaluate the utility of portal vein pulsatility as a predictor of the composite outcome of persistent organ dysfunction plus death in patients undergoing elective or urgent pulmonary endarterectomy for thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. The investigators' hypothesis is that the portal vein pulsatility fraction, measured using transesophageal echocardiography immediately after weaning of cardiopulmonary bypass, is proportional to the risk of developing subsequent end-organ dysfunction in the postoperative setting.

QoR-9 AS predicTor of postopErative Complications

Postoperative Complications

Aim of the study is to evaluate, whether the self administered quality of recovery (QoR-9) questionnaire can predict postoperative complications after non-cardiac surgery and whether preoperative risk estimates can be improved by implementation of the QoR-9 as postoperative screening tool.

Oxygen Extraction and Delivery in Elderly During Major Surgery

Impaired Oxygen DeliverySurgery2 more

This clinical observational study investigates perioperative oxygen consumption and delivery in elderly patients undergoing major surgery. The primary objectives are to characterise the perioperative oxygen delivery, consumption and potential markers of oxygen debt. Secondary objective is to estimate the correlation between oxygen delivery/consumption and postoperative outcomes to guide the design of a future trial.
