Clinical Survey of Oticon Medical Ponto Implants and a Surgical Technique With Tissue Preservation...

Conductive Hearing LossMixed Hearing Loss1 more

A bone anchored hearing system is used to improve hearing for patients with e.g. conductive/mixed hearing loss or single sided deafness. With this type of system, a titanium implant is installed in the temporal bone, where it osseointegrates, i.e. integrates with the bone. An abutment (also in titanium) is attached to the implants and penetrates the skin. The sound processor (hearing aid) is then connected to the abutment, and can be attached and removed by the patient via a snap-coupling. This type of system has been successfully implanted in more than 100.000 patients. Recently, a simplified surgical procedure, where no skin thinning around the abutment is made, was approved. The results after using this installation technique, here called soft tissue preservation, are the focus of this study. The objective of the study is to compare the outcomes after a surgical procedure with soft tissue preservation (test) and a surgery with soft tissue reduction (control) for placing Oticon Medical Ponto implants and abutments. The main hypothesis is that patient numbness around the implant is less in the test group compared to the control group.

Wide Frequency Band Test of Hearing in Veterans

Hearing LossSensorineural8 more

The accurate assessment of auditory status is critical for planning treatment for Veterans with hearing loss to include medical and audiological management. Current physiologic tests of auditory function in the standard clinical audiological test battery for Veterans have limited sensitivity in detecting some middle-ear disorders, and do not include a direct test of cochlear function. Recent studies have shown promise for new wide-bandwidth (WB) tests of absorbance for improved sensitivity in the assessment of middle-ear function including acoustic reflex testing. The addition of WB tests of cochlear function included in the WB test battery provides an opportunity to improve audiological diagnosis of a range of hearing disorders in Veterans. The automation provided by the WB test battery could provide additional benefits in reducing the duration of the evaluation, leaving more time for evaluation of test findings and counseling. Results from this study may lead to the improvement of audiological care for Veterans with hearing loss.

Single-stage Surgery Using the BI300 Implant

Hearing Impaired ChildrenHearing Impairment1 more

Over the last few decades, the classical two-stage surgical procedure for inserting bone-anchored hearing implants (BAHIs) has been modified in adults into a single-stage procedure. This approach has several advantages since it avoids a second surgical procedure. The single-stage approach is proven to be safe and feasible in adults and is nowadays referred to as the standard surgical technique in adults. Despite favorable outcomes and advantages of the single-stage surgery, most Ear Nose Throat (ENT)-surgeons still perform two-stage surgery when inserting BAHI in the pediatric population. Therefore, the aim of this study is to compare implant loss between single-stage BAHI surgery and two-stage BAHI surgery in children aged 4 to 9 years.

Audiometric Parameters in Conductive Hearing Loss and Middle Ear Disease

OtosclerosisTympanic Membrane Perforation

We study audiometric parameters including Transient Otoacoustic emissions, pure-tone audiometry for air- and bone-conduction, and spondaic speech recognition thresholds for air- and bone conduction in a pre- and postoperative situation in patients due for surgery for tympanic membrane perforations and otosclerosis. The hypotheses are that the precision of the preoperative assessment may be increased, and our knowledge about the effect on the inner ear by middle ear surgery may be increased.

Investigating Hearing With Ponto 3 SuperPower, a Bone Anchored Hearing Aid - Investigating Hear...

Hearing LossConductive8 more

The study is part of the Post Market Clinical Follow (PMCF) activity. The investigational device is the CE-marked Ponto 3 SuperPower (available on the market since December 2016) already fitted to the subjects, and data is collected retrospectively from clinical routine visits. The study is a retrospective study. Therefore there will be no study visits for treatment or follow-up in the study. Subject inclusion for this clinical investigation will be performed among subjects who has been fitted with the Ponto 3 SuperPower. To have a wide representative selection of subjects, enrollment will be spread over the 4 years since the device was available on the market since December 2016. The endpoints in the study will investigate the improvement of hearing with the Ponto 3 SuperPower. The data will be collected from the subjects in the time period from the clinical routine visit where the Ponto 3 SuperPower where fitted or just prior, and from the clinical routine visit following the fitting, where audiologic fitting follow-up procedures are performed (approximately 3 months).

The Anatomic Determinants of Perforation Induced Hearing Loss

Conductive Hearing LossPerforated Tympanic Membrane

The purpose of this study is to identify factors that may contribute to conductive hearing loss. Conductive hearing loss is a type that is due to a problem with the outer or middle ear. Because of this, sound does not travel through the ear normally. Perforated tympanic membranes of study patients will be photographed during the patient's routine visit using a digital otoscope. These pictures will be used to analyze perforation size as an absolute value as well as a percentage of the tympanic membrane. Audiometric results and CT scans of temporal bone (reports and images) collected as standard of care will be evaluated. Images of CT scans will be imported into a medical imaging software for creation of anatomically realistic 3D models of the middle ear and mastoid air space. Structural analysis on each 3D model will be conducted and analyzed, the volume of middle ear and mastoid air spaces will be recorded, and data points will be correlated with perforation size and location to audiogram results.

SoundBite Hearing System 24 Month Multi Site Patient Use Study

Single Sided DeafnessConductive Hearing Loss

The objective of this multi-site observational study is to further assess the long-term patient use of the Sonitus SoundBite Hearing System. Information can be gained by assessing benefit for the subjects that were enrolled in the SoundBite Hearing System Long Term Multi Site Study (Protocol CLN006) for an additional 12 months.

SoundBite Hearing System Long Term Multi Site Patient Use Study

Single Sided DeafnessConductive Hearing Loss

This study is designed to collect data about the SoundBite™ Hearing System to answer specific questions. The hearing system has been cleared for commercial distribution by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Sonitus hopes to learn from a larger group of users what features and settings of this device provide the best hearing ability for people diagnosed with Single Sided Deafness (SSD) or Conductive Hearing Loss (CHL).
