Lymphovascular Abnormalities Under Tattoos

Tattoo

The number of tattooed people is increasing and some complications secondary to tattoos suggest that the lymphatic vascular system might be implicated in their pathogenesis. Abnormalities have been described at the level of the lymph nodes draining the tattooed areas but nothing was reported about the lymphatic vessels under tattoos. This is the aim of the present work.

Colloid Osmotic Pressure in Patients With Fontan Circulation

Heart DefectsCongenital

Children born with univentricular heart will go through step surgery and end up with a Fontan circulation. A circulation with cause problems with body fluid balance. This project will evaluate changes in interstitial colloid osmotic pressure in patients 10 year after completion of a three step Fontan surgery. This project will evaluate whether increased micro vascular leakage and change in interstitial colloid osmotic pressure are present in patients after ten years with a Fontan circulation.

High Risk Multiple Gestation Study

Trisomy 13Trisomy 182 more

The objectives of the clinical study are to demonstrate the accuracy of our proprietary algorithm method to determine the genetic health of the developing fetuses in a multiple gestation pregnancy from a maternal blood sample. The long term goal of this study will be the development of a method of minimally invasive prenatal diagnosis that has a higher sensitivity and lower false positive rate in the intended population (e.g. multiple gestation pregnancies) than other currently available screening tests. This will result in fewer unnecessary amniocenteses and Chorionic Villus Sample (CVS) procedures, which are associated with a risk of miscarriage.

Fluid Balance in Children Undergoing Fontan Surgery

Heart DefectsCongenital1 more

This project will evaluate fluid balance and edema formation in children with congenital heart disease in need of a surgical procedure, The Fontan procedure. Surgery will make the child end up with a univentricular heart with one-chamber circulation ( Fontan circulation). This project will evaluate if these children has increased micro vascular leakage before surgery due to their congenital heart defect. The project will also investigate if the edema formation seen during cardiac surgery with the use of Cardio-Pulmonary Bypass (CPB) and hypothermia is caused by capillary leakage of plasma protein. The study hypothesis are Edema developed during heart surgery is caused by reduced colloid osmotic pressure gradient through the capillary membrane. The degree of micro vascular leakage in open-heart surgery is related to duration of CPB and hypothermia. Fontan circulation cause peripheral edema related to elevated central venous pressure and is not caused by increased micro vascular leakage of plasma proteins.

Heart DefectsCongenital

This study was designed to examine if venous saturations from the central venous line and from the venous side of the heart lung machine are interchangeable or not with mixed venous saturation from the pulmonary artery in children undergoing open heart surgery for correction of various congenital heart defects.

Fanconi AnemiaAutosomal or Sex Linked Recessive Genetic Disease4 more

Fanconi anemia is a rare autosomal or sex linked recessive genetic disease. The disease is characterized by bone marrow hematopoiesis failure, multiple congenital abnormalities, and susceptibility to neoplastic diseases. The cells of FA patients are extremely sensitive to MMC and DEB. The symptoms and ages of FA patients are different, so by comparing the exome of FA patients and their parents, the mutations that were accumulated in FA patients could be found, and these genes might be sensitive to repairment and be important for hematopoiesis maintainance.

Antenatal Palliative Care

Fetal DeathFetal Anomaly

In France, according to current legislation, termination of pregnancy could be performed without any upper gestational age limit, if there is a strong probability that the fetus will be affected by a particularly severe and incurable disease. When there is a lethal fetal diagnosis most of parents wish to terminate their pregnancy. However, and despite some medical resistance a few of them do wish to continue pregnancy. In these situations, palliative care seems to be a good way to prepare to welcome the child and surround him until death. The aim of the study is to describe parents' experience for a better understanding and a better care.
