Optimized Peak VO2 in Predicting Advanced HF

Heart FailureMorality2 more

The ability and timely selection of severe heart failure (HF) patients for cardiac transplantation and advanced HF therapy is challenging. Peak VO2 by cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) was used for transplant listing. This study aimed to reassess the prognostic significance of peak VO2 and to compare that with the Heart Failure Survival Score in the current optimized novel guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT).

Use of ΔIVC for Early Diagnosis of AHF in AECOPD

Acute Decompensated Heart FailureCOPD Exacerbation

Acute Heart failure (AHF) is a common cause of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). This association is frequently underestimated with regard to the difficulty of clinical diagnosis. The investigators expect that the application of the inferior vena cava collapsibility index (ΔIVC)could be useful in this issue.

Validity and Reliability of the Turkish Version of Performance Measure for Activities of Daily Living-8...

Congestive Heart Failure

Chronic heart failure (CHF) is characterized by limited exercise performance, which is mainly determined by disease-specific factors, such as diminished cardiac output, abnormal ventilatory response, and low perfusion in skeletal muscles, which lead to skeletal muscle dysfunction.1 Exercise intolerance and symptoms may lead to activity restriction and further functional deterioration with the progression of CHF. There is some evidence that disease-specific self-report measures more quantify clinically relevant domains than measures of general health status and are generally more sensitive to clinical change. aim of the study is to investigate the validity and reliability of the PMADL-8 questionnaire in the Turkish population.

The "ABCDE" Score as a Five-step Vascular Ultrasound Examination in Heart Failure

Heart FailureAtherosclerosis

Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome caused by structural and/or functional cardiac abnormalities, resulting in a reduced cardiac output and/or elevated intra-cardiac pressures at rest or during stress. It is the leading cause of hospitalization in Internal Medicine departments. This study aims at exploring evidence of the importance of ultrasound in HF both for hospitalized patients and in the follow up. Ultrasound may be used as a recovery monitoring instrument at the bedside and also as a global cardiovascular assessment tool for these patients. HF represents an exciting opportunity to create an integrative ultrasound approach in Internal Medicine/Geriatric departments. The Authors plan a five-step ultrasound examination to evaluate and monitor HF patients during hospitalization and follow-up. They call this examination: the "ABCDE" score. It includes the evaluations of A, the Ankle-brachial index (ABI), B, the B-lines, C, the Carotid intima media thickness (CIMT), D, the Diameter of the abdominal aorta and of the inferior cave vein and E, the echocardiographic assessment of the ejection fraction. This score represent an integrative ultrasound approach in Internal Medicine/Geriatric departments.

Study of the Prevalence of Iron Deficiency in Patients With Heart Failure

Heart Failure

Despite its known prevalence in Heart Failure, a recent study conducted by Prof. Cacoub (unpublished) on the French national health insurance database showed that iron deficiency was a poorly diagnosed and poorly treated comorbidity. In chronic diseases including Heart Failure, Transferrin Saturation Factor is only performed in about 10% of cases while it is recommended for patients with Heart Failure (French Health High Authority 2011). The purpose of this study is to obtain current data on the prevalence of iron deficiency in France in patients with Heart Failure, applying the recommendations of European Society of Cardiology and French Health High Authority (determination of ferritinemia and Transferrin Saturation Factor).

Heart FailureHeart Failure NYHA Class III3 more

The "four-point" questionnaire by Severo and his associates was weighted in 2011 in the Portuguese population and aims to characterize the severity of the symptoms of heart failure by providing a way to minimize the reliability of the NYHA classification. The questionnaire consists of four closed questions, three possible single-choice answers, coded 0, 1 or 2, and has been translated into Greek in accordance with the internationally-based methodology, with forward-backward translation.

Non-invasive Pressure-Volume Analysis (NIPVA)

Heart Failure

If the heart fails to pump a sufficient amount of blood, it is crucial to know why in order to provide the best treatment. Pressure-volume analysis is the gold standard for evaluating the heart's pumping function. Unfortunately, current techniques are invasive, so most patients will not get this examination. By combining the strengths of echo-Doppler ultrasound, blood pressure monitoring and biomedical computing, the investigators aim to develop a non-invasive method for pressure-volume analysis, extending its applicability to more patients and settings.
