Monitoring Pulmonary Artery Pressure by Implantable Device Responding to Ultrasonic Signal (PAPIRUS...

Heart Failure

The PAPIRUS III study will continue to follow patients initially enrolled in PAPIRUS II. Pressure readings from the investigational device will continue to be collected and will be correlated to physiological changes during activities of daily living and protocol defined tests.

Model 4196 Left Ventricular (LV) Lead Chronic Performance Study

Heart Failure

The purpose of this study is to evaluate long-term performance of the 4196 LV Lead. This evaluation is based on the number of lead-related complications occurring during the study compared to the number of leads enrolled in the study. The leads will be followed for 5 years after implant. This study is required by FDA as a condition of approval of the Model 4196 LV Lead and is integrated within the Product Surveillance Registry (PAN Registry).

Prospective Study of Heart Failure With Preserved Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction

Congestive Heart FailureLeft Ventricular Ejection Fraction1 more

The purpose of this study is to examine electrical and echocardiographic characteristics and prognosis of consecutive patients admitted with acute heart failure and diagnosed to have heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFPEF).

Classification of Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction

Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection FractionDiastolic Heart Failure

The purpose of this study is to create a classification system for the heterogenous disorder of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).

Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP) in Heart Failure

Chronic Stable Heart Failure

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the production of MMP in failing hearts.

T-wave Alternans and Intrathoracic Impedance Measurements

Congestive Heart FailureArrhythmias

T-wave alternans is a test that is currently being used to risk stratify patients with structural heart disease for sudden cardiac death. The mechanism of T-wave alternans is unclear, but may share a common abnormality with conditions of cardiac fluid overload such as heart failure, which is altered intracellular calcium handling. Current Medtronic implantable defibrillators have the capability of monitoring cardiac fluid status via transthoracic impedance measurements. The purpose of this study is to determine if a correlation exists between T-wave alternans status and cardiac volume status, as determined by transthoracic impedance measurements. Secondarily, the study seeks to examine the relationship between arrhythmia frequency and T-wave alternans or cardiac volume status.

An Evaluation of the Causes of Anemia in Patients With Heart Failure

AnemiaHeart Failure1 more

Anemia is frequent in patients with heart failure. Few studies have clearly addressed the causes of anemia in patients with HF. The purpose of this study is to evaluate differences in blood concentrations of various substances related to inflammation, oxidative stress, renal function and other processes between individuals with 1) heart failure and anemia, 2) heart failure without anemia and 3) patients with kidney disease without systolic heart failure. This study will help to better understand the reasons why some people with heart failure have anemia.

Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging to Predict People Who Are Likely to Develop Flash Pulmonary Edema...

Heart FailureCongestive

Flash pulmonary edema is a sudden, abnormal build-up of fluid in the lungs. It is usually caused by heart failure and can be life threatening. The purpose of this study is to determine if a new form of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can identify abnormal blood flow to the lungs and predict increased risk of developing flash pulmonary edema among older adults.

Serial Measurements of Biomarker in Patients With Acute Decompensated Heart Failure

Acute Heart Failure

Evaluation of serial measurement of novel biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis or therapy monitoring in patients presenting with acute decompensated heart failure.

ECG Signal Collection From Long QT Syndrome, Wide QRS Complexes, Heart Failure, and Cardiac Resynchronization...

Long QT SyndromeWide QRS Complexes2 more

The purpose of this study is to collect surface electrograms from standard and several non-standard configurations in patients with long QT syndrome, heart failure, cardiac resynchronization therapy or wide QRS during a routine outpatient assessment. The ECGs collected will be used as test signals by the sponsor for the development of a subcutaneous implantable defibrillator
