Clinical Performance Evaluation of AQT90 FLEX BNP and NT-proBNP

Heart Failure

The AQT90 FLEX B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) and N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) Tests are in vitro diagnostic assays intended as an aid in the diagnosis and assessment of the severity of heart failure in point-of-care and laboratory settings. The purpose of the study is to establish the clinical performance of the AQT90 FLEX BNP and NT-proBNP assays for both whole blood and plasma in the intended use population.

Brain Alterations and Cognitive Impairment in Older Adults With Heart Failure

Heart Failure

Cognitive impairment, commonly reported as difficulty with memory and executive function, is a widely recognized clinical challenge for older persons with heart failure (HF). Little is known about the relationship between brain MRI and cognitive impairment in older persons with HF. A limited number of studies have investigated brain MRI in adults with HF and produced conflicting results. Previous findings are limited by use of lower resolution scanners (1.5 Tesla), lack of MRI techniques (i.e. combining structural sequences with perfusion sequences) and recruitment of mixed age samples. Based on these limitations, the purpose of this research plan is to explore the relationship between brain MRI and cognitive impairment in older persons with HF using high resolution structural and perfusion scans. To accomplish this goal, investigators will compare 40 adults with HF who are age > 65 years old with 40 healthy, gender, age, and education matched controls. Investigators will obtain neuropsychological measures of multiple domains, as well as MRI measurements of the temporal lobe and prefrontal cortex at baseline and 12-months.

Using NT-proBNP to Detect Chronic Heart Failure in Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease...

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseChronic Heart Failure

The aim of the present study was to evaluate if the analysis of NT-proBNP might be used as an initial step for the diagnosis of chronic heart failure in patients with COPD in primary health care, and to select patients for a further examination by echocardiography.

Mbarara Acute Heart Failure Registry

Heartfailure

This is a prospective cohort to describe clinical characteristics, predictors of poor outcomes both during hospitalization and at home, functional status, and quality of life among patients aged 13 years or more, consecutively admitted with acute decompensated heart failure at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

ASIAN HF Registry, A Prospective Observational Study

Heart Failure

The ASIAN HF Registry is the first prospective multinational Asian registry of patients with symptomatic HF (stage C) including both HFrEF (ejection fraction <40%) and HFpEF (ejection fraction ≥50%), with the broad purpose of determining the mortality (incidence) burden of HF in Asian patients, and more specifically to define the burden and risk factors of Sudden Cardiac Deaths (SCD), as well as the sociocultural barriers to preventive device therapy. The study further aim to study the genetic variants associated with HFrEF versus HFpEF in our large Asian cohort. This proposed registry is expected to advance fundamental understanding of the burden and predictors of preventable death among Asian patients with HF. The knowledge gained will be critical for guiding resource allocation and planning preventive strategies to address the unmet and growing clinical needs of patients with cardiovascular disease in Asia.
