Connective Tissue Manipulation Improves Symptoms and Quality of Life in Patients With Chronic Constipation...
Chronic ConstipationConnective tissue manipulation (CTM) is a manual reflex therapy, which increases intestinal motility by stimulating autonomic nervous system to re-balance the parasympathetic and sympathetic functions. However, there is no randomized controlled trial (RCT) regarding the efficacy of CTM on constipation. This study was planned to investigate the effects of CTM in patients with chronic constipation. Patients who have diagnosis of chronic constipation according to Rome III criteria were recruited and randomized to intervention and control group. The intervention group received CTM in addition to the lifestyle advice, while the control group was given only lifestyle advice for constipation. All assessments were performed at baseline and at the end of 4 weeks. The primary outcome measure was the Constipation Severity Instrument (CSI). Secondary outcomes included Patient Assessment of Constipation Quality of Life Questionnaire (PAC-QOL), Bristol Stool Scale (BSS) and 7-day bowel diary. Differences between groups were analyzed with t-tests, Mann-Whitney U test and Chi-square test.
The Effects of Connective Tissue Manipulation and Abdominal Massage in Patients With Chronic Constipation...
ConstipationThe aim of this study is to investigate the effect of connective tissue manipulation and abdominal massage on severity of constipation and health related quality of life in patients with chronic constipation. According to literature, there are studies that investigate the effects of abdominal massage on bowel movements. But there is no randomized controlled trial, explore the short and long-term effects of different massage technics on chronic constipation. Hypothesis of this study is that connective tissue manipulation and abdominal massage improves symptoms of constipation and health related quality of life in patients suffering with constipation.
Maintenance Treatment for Children With Constipation
ConstipationConstipation is a common problem among children. The majority of children suffering from constipation have no underlying disease. Although constipation has no basis in underlying disease, it often leads to a reduced quality of life of children who are on par with or worse than for children suffering from serious diseases such as cardiovascular and rheumatic diseases. Despite the high frequency of constipation among children, little is known about the causes and treatment of constipation. Treatment consists of symptomatic treatment with various laxatives. Movicol and Movicol junior has proven very effective and are therefore widely used in children as disimpaction and maintenance treatment. There is currently no research to prove the need for and length of maintenance treatment with laxative medications in children. The purpose is to examining the effectiveness of maintenance treatment with Movicol. Additional til study will examine how the anal diameter change during a course of treatment and the degree to which it can be used as an indicator of treatment efficacy. The study will test the following: • What is the effect of maintenance treatment with PEG compared to placebo? The results from this study are expected to form the basis for an evidence-based approach to the use of maintenance therapy and the use of ultrasound of the rectum in children with constipation.
Outpatient Treatment of Constipation in Children
ConstipationConstipation is a condition often seen in children. Constipation is often associated with impaired quality of life of the child and of great concern among parents. Despite the fact that both diagnosis and treatment is a simple task, it is often seen that the treatment fails, and many children are referred to a pediatric ward for specialized treatment. There is currently little research on the subject and treatment is therefore based on expert knowledge rather than scientific research. The study objective is to identify the most effective and least stressful treatment of children with constipation for both families and the health care system. The following will be tested: Does treatment of constipation in children require specialized knowledge and extensive resources or can the treatment be simplified? The results from this study are expected to form the basis for a evidence based treatment of children with constipation.
Efficacy and Safety of Prucalopride in Combination With Polyethylene Glycol or Lactulose in Women...
ConstipationThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of prucalopride 2 mg, given orally once daily for 12 weeks, in combination with PEG or lactulose, in treatment of women with Chronic Constipation (CC) in whom laxatives fail to provide adequate relief, as measured by the percentage of subjects with a weekly average increase of 1 or more spontaneous complete bowel movements (SCBMs) (responders) during the 12-week treatment phase as compared to the baseline.
