Evaluation of Microvolt T-Wave Alternans(MTWA) Testing for the Detection of Active Ischemia
Coronary Artery DiseaseMTWA-CAD is a feasibility study designed to evaluate Microvolt T-Wave Alternans (MTWA) testing for the purpose of detecting active ischemia in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease (CAD). MTWA is a subtle, alternating pattern in the T wave portion of the surface electrocardiogram (ECG) that is associated with increased risk of ventricular tachyarrhythmias and sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
Novel Method to Diagnose Acute Myocardial Ischemia
Myocardial InfarctionAngina3 moreThe aim of this study is to improve the detection of heart attack in people who come to a hospital emergency room (ER) with cardiac symptoms. We are testing a novel technology that calculates the heart's electrical activity at points all around the upper body torso and develops a map showing areas indicating heart attack. Our hypothesis is that this new body mapping technique will be better than the standard electrocardiogram (ECG) in detecting heart attack.
Long-term Mortality in Diabetics Undergoing Major Surgery
Diabetes MellitusCoronary Heart Disease1 morePatients with CAD and diabetes mellitus have a better prognosis than patients with CAD and no diabetes mellitus. In acute coronary syndrome patients with an insulin therapy had a better survival than patients with oral antidiabetics. But there is not known wether perioperative therapy with insulin or oral antidiabetics is associated with higher risk for higher perioperative cardiac morbidity and mortality and worse long-term survival.
Epidemiology of Depression and Heart Failure in Aging
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases5 moreTo understand how depression leads to congestive heart failure (CHF) in older adults.
Detection of Subclinical Atherosclerosis in Asymptomatic Individuals
Coronary Artery DiseaseThis study will evaluate the use of cardiac CT in identifying atherosclerosis plaque in patients who have not been diagnosed with atherosclerosis and who have no symptoms of the disease but who are at risk of developing atherosclerosis based on traditional risk factors such as diabetes or a family history of coronary artery disease.
Heart Failure in the Community
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases5 moreTo monitor trends in congestive heart failure in Olmsted County, Minnesota.
Epidemiology of Breast Arterial Calcification
Coronary DiseaseCardiovascular Diseases1 moreTo test the hypothesis that breast arterial calcification (BAC) seen on mammograms can identify women with an increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD).
Minnesota Heart Survey - Risk Factor Survey
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases4 moreTo continue surveillance of cardiovascular disease risk factors in the seven-county area of Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Predictors of Perioperative Cardiac Morbidity
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases4 moreTo determine the predictors of perioperative cardiac morbidity and mortality in patients at high risk who underwent major noncardiac surgery with general anesthesia.
Physicians' Health Study: Study of Low Cardiovascular Disease Mortality
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases2 moreTo explain the extremely low cardiovascular mortality among Physicians' Health Study (PHS) participants by ascertaining all cardiovascular and total deaths among the 90,457 physicians who returned enrollment forms but were not randomized into the study. Also, to compare the mortality experience of randomized physicians with various subgroups of non-participants.
