COVID-19: A Scope Research on Epidemiology and Clinical Course
Covid19SARS CoV 2 Infection1 moreSevere Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) Coronavirus (CoV) 2 infection and the associated coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are the most recent international health threat challenging our ability to protect populations, to avoid severe outcomes and to understand both the population dynamics of this new condition and the breath of individual responses. Gathering information on the clinical course of the disease and the risk of transmission is essential to design effective therapeutic solutions and preventive measures. The aim of the study proposed, to be carried out at University Hospital Center of "São João" (CHUSJ), is to recruit and follow-up a cohort of patients diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection, to evaluate the clinical course of SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 cases, to identify prognostic factors and to measure the risk of reinfection. Additionally, researchers intend to characterize the patients and household contacts to describe the dynamics of infection, to calculate household infection attack rate, and to perform the genetic sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 to understand determinants of disease course (namely long-term effects) and risk of household transmission. A sample of participants, identified during the process of evaluation of symptomatic individuals, at the same institution, and negative for SARS-CoV-2 will be selected as negative controls. Participants will be consecutively recruited and the study is expected to enroll patients as long as the pandemic remains. Information will be gathered based on clinical individual charts, hospital data-bases (example: for administrative data) and individual computer assisted interviews to be performed at pre-defined intervals (3, 12 and 24 months) or according to clinical needs. The project was approved by the local Ethical Committee and the Data Protection relevant authorities.
An Observational Study of Moderna COVID-19 Bivalent Vaccines (Original and Omicron BA.4/BA.5) and...
COVID-19The goal of this observational study is to analyze binding antibody levels in adults in the United States (US) after receiving coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) bivalent boosters (original and omicron BA.4/5) and updated COVID-19 vaccines (XBB.1.5).

Executive Functioning and Sleep Fragmentation in COVID-19 Patients
COVID-19Healthy VolunteersThis project aims to investigate executive functioning abilities (primary outcome) and quality of sleep (secondary outcome) in patients with COVID-19 (while distinguishing between those with and without sleep fragmentation), compared with an age- and education matched control group of healthy individuals who did not experience contagion. Prefrontal electrical activity will be recorded with EEG in patients, and related to sleep and cognitive-executive metrics. The main questions it aims to answer are: is executive functioning impaired in COVID-19 patients compared with individuals who were not infected? is there a relationship between altered sleep and impaired executive functioning in COVID-19 patients? is such relationship related to altered prefrontal brain activitity in COVID-19 patients?
Determine the Effects of Prone Positioning and NO in COVID-19 ARDS by EIT
Respiratory Distress SyndromeAdult1 moreWe aims to investigate the effects of prone positioning and nitric oxide inhalation in adult patients who is diagnosed with COVID-19 associated acute respiratory distress syndrome by electrical impedance tomography.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Improves Brain Function in Patients With Cognitive Decline After COVID-19...
Cognitive DeclineCOVID-191 moreCOVID-19 has swept the world, and while some people may experience long-term cognitive decline as a result of infection, no effective treatment has been announced. The primary goal of this study was to determine the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection, as well as to assess the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on brain function in patients with COVID-19-related cognitive decline. In this study, approximately 80 people were randomly assigned to either hyperbaric oxygen or regular oxygen therapy to compare the effects of these two treatments on disease.
Using Data From a Multisensor Rapid Health Assessment Device to Predict Decompensation in Long COVID...
COVID-19Long COVIDWe are conducting a research study at the VA hospital in Bedford, MA to learn more about how a multisensor rapid health assessment device, MouthLab, can help predict or anticipate future health complications in patients with underline conditions after contracting COVID-19. The device was created by a health technology and digital medicine company called Aidar Health, Inc. MouthLab is a non-invasive, hand-held device that works like a breathalyzer. An individual breathes into the device for 60 seconds and the MouthLab gathers more than 10 vital health parameters like temperature, heart rate, SpO2, ECG, and basic lung functions. Participation in the study will last for 6 months, and the purpose is to gather health information from people who have been previously hospitalized with COVID-19. We will use the data to develop an algorithm that predicts future complications of COVID-19, especially among patients with complex conditions (i.e., heart failure, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and enables early intervention.
INFLUENCE OF HIGH FREQUENCY CHEST WALL OSCILLATION IN HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS WITH COVID-19
COVID-19INFLUENCE OF HIGH FREQUENCY CHEST WALL OSCILLATION IN HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS WITH COVID-19 The purpose of this Interventional study is to investigate the effect of high frequency chest wall oscillation in hospitalized COVID-19 patients on: Inflammatory markers: Netrophil to lymphocyte ratio and CRP Hemodynamic parameters (Arterial Blood Gases, Heart Rate variability, Respiratory Rate, O2 Saturation). Dyspnea, time needed for oxygen weaning, Mortality Rate and Hospital stay period. Hypotheses : This Interventional study will test the following Null hypothesis: HFCWO will not have an effect in hospitalized COVID-19 patients regarding Arterial Blood Gases, CRP, Dyspnea, Heart Rate variability, Respiratory Rate, O2 Saturation, time needed for Oxygen Weaning, Mortality Rate and Hospital Stay Period.Research Question: Is there a significant effect of high frequency chest wall oscillation (HFCWO) in Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients?
Genetic Risk Factors for Multi-system Inflammatory Syndrome in Children and Pediatric Post COVID...
COVID-19Post-Acute COVID-195 moreWe will perform Whole Exome Sequencing on DNA from saliva. We will include: Children with a history of MIS-C; children with post-COVID condition; and controls in order to identify rare, high impact genetic variants in immunological genes and pathways in children with a history of MIS-C or pediatric post-COVID condition.
