Recruitment Assessment in Patients With Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and Covid-19

Acute Respiratory Distress SyndromeCOVID-19 Pneumonia1 more

Respiratory failure associated with Covid-19 can be expressed as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which is an acute inflammatory lung injury, which generally requires the use of invasive mechanical ventilation (MV). There are inconclusive results regarding the potential lung recruitment in ARDS. Recently, a new index based on lung compliance has been described to directly quantify the potential for lung recruitment, called the recruitment-inflation index (R/I index). The objective of this study is to prospectively evaluate the recruitment capacity in patients with ARDS and ARDS-Covid-19.

Effects of Mechanical Ventilation on the Diaphragm in COVID-19 Intensive Care Patients. A Post-mortem...

Diaphragm InjuryPathology2 more

The diaphragm is the fundamental muscle of the respiratory system. The diaphragmatic dysfunction is present in 60% of critical patients at hospital admission and up to 80% after prolonged mechanical ventilation and difficult weaning. Risk factors associated with diaphragm dysfunction and atrophy are sepsis, trauma, sedatives, steroids, and muscle relaxants. The main pathology characteristics of diaphragm biopsies of mechanically ventilated patients are atrophy and a reduction in contractility, determining an impact on the clinical outcome. Shi et al. found a higher section area of the diaphragm muscle fiber in biopsies of post mortem COVID-19 patients versus negative patients, independently from days of mechanical ventilation. The hypothesis of our study is to identify different clusters of pathological presentation in post-mortem COVID-19 mechanically ventilated patients.

Asymptomatic and Pre-symptomatic Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in a Community Congregant Setting

COVID-19SARS-CoV2 Infection

The overall aim of this study is to measure how transmission of COVID-19 occurs in communities - including the role of super spreaders and/or identifying conditions that may increase transmission risk, with a focus on congregant situations. In order to identify how presence of symptoms and behavior affects the transmissibility of the virus, the investigators will measure SARS-CoV-2 in exhaled breath of asymptomatic and symptomatic persons using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) test strips embedded in face masks (Face Mask Sampling- "FMS") - an innovative, non-invasive method for detection of SARS-CoV-2 in exhaled air.

Continuous Glucose Monitorization in Hospitalized Patients With COVID-19

Diabetes MellitusCovid19

DM2 is a major comorbidity of COVID-19. It has been observed that subjects with DM2 require more medical interventions, have a significantly higher mortality (7.8% versus 2.7%) and injuries of multiple organs that the individuals not diabetics. In situations of glycemic variability, phenomena of oxidative stress and activation of protein kinase C can be initiated , through the release of pro-inflammatory cytosines , which could induce microvascular damage .Patients with diabetes and COVID-19 were shown to be more likely to develop serious or critical illness with more complications, and to have higher incidence rates of antibiotic therapy, non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation, and death (11.1% vs. 4.1%).

QUALITATIVE SURVEY ABOUT NURSES FIRST WORK EXPERIENCE DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Quality of Life

During covid-19 pandemic an huge reorganization of all PiacenzaHospital was done to manage the increasing requests for hosptitalization. New nurses had to face first work experience in full pandemic Emergency. Altough even before the pandemic, being a newly graduated nurses was described as a stressful and isolating experience , we can't find studies in the literatureconcerning newly graduated and newly hired nurses during the pandemic pediod. The study purpose is to describe and analyze, trough a phenomenological research, the experience of these nurses.

Respiratory Virus Metagenomics After COVID-19

COVID-19 Respiratory Infection

The study aims to characterize the distributive pattern of viruses in upper airway and its relationship with influenza seasons, symptomatology and exposure setting. A total of 500 adults residing in Hong Kong would be recruited, who would complete a questionnaire and return self-collected nasal and throat swabs for metagenomic analyses.

Impact of COVID19 on Asthma

AsthmaCovid19

The COVID19 pandemic is having an immeasurable impact on the economy and on morbidity and mortality. Knowledge and scientific evidence about this disease is advancing rapidly, but it is not yet known whether asthmatic patients suffering from COVID19 have an exacerbation of asthma, or whether this viral infection has an impact on control and lung function in the short to medium term. The aim of this study is to define the changes that occur in these two parameters in asthmatic patients suffering from COVID19. To this end, asthmatic patients who have suffered a SARS-CoV-2 infection and who have required an emergency consultation or hospitalisation will be collected in a pneumology consultation and matched by age, sex and severity of asthma with a group that has not suffered the same. Both will be followed for one year, and lung function will be tested at six months and exacerbations and changes in ACT during the following year. These data are intended to improve the available knowledge on the impact of IDVC19 on asthma patients with a view to making appropriate recommendations, prevention and treatment adjustments in line with the results obtained.

Survey of COVID-19 Infection

COVID-19Infections

Using online questionnaires, we will obtain data regarding COVID-19 infection and treatment, including incidence rate, hospitalization rate, severity of the infection, medications, mortality rate, etc, in both hospital and communities after the change of disease control policy in China.
