Traditional Chinese Medicine or Low-dose Dexamethasone in COVID-19 Pneumonia

COVID-19 Pneumonia

The goal of this type of clinical trial is to learn about symptomatic patients with post-COVID-19 parenchymal lung abnormalities. The main questions it aims to answer are: the efficacy and safety of low-dose dexamethasone or traditional Chinese medicine in symptomatic patients with post-COVID-19 parenchymal lung abnormalities. Participants will be divided into three parallel groups:controlled group with conventional western medicine treatment including oxygen therapy, antibiotics, nebulization therapy, etc. dexamethasone group: dexamethasone 1.5mg/day for one week and 0.75mg/day for another week basing on conventional western medicine. Chinese medicine group: Strengthening spleen and tonifying lung decoction for 2 weeks basing on conventional western medicine.

Immunoadsorption Study Mainz in Adults With Post-COVID Syndrome

Post-COVID-19 SyndromePost-COVID Syndrome1 more

The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficiency and safety of immunoadsorption for the treatment of post-COVID syndrome (PCS). Efficacy will be measured (1) subjectively as an improvement of the score of questionnaires like the multidimensional fatigue inventory (MFI-20), Chalder fatigue scale, Bell-score, modified medical research council dyspnea scale (mMRC) and the Post-COVID functional scale (PCFS) and (2) objectively as an improvement in neurocognitive testing with the Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) and the improvement of the hand-grip strength. 40 participants with symptoms of PCS and a PCFS score of at least 2 will be included. After an exclusion of other causes of the symptoms and evaluation of the baseline burden of symptoms each participant will undergo 5 sessions of immunoadsorption with an immunoglobulin-binding adsorber and 5 sham-treatments or vice versa. The order of treatments (immunoadsorption first or sham first) will be randomized. Each participant will be blinded for the modality of the conducted treatment. A therapy-free period of 8 weeks will separate the two treatment blocks. All examinations will be conducted before the first treatment, 2 weeks after the first treatment cycle, before the second treatment cycle as well as 2 and 6 weeks after the second treatment cycle. The results of the study will inform future treatment strategies for PCS and will contribute to a better understanding of the pathophysiological insights behind the ongoing symptoms.

Safety and Effectiveness of Placental Derived Exosomes and Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells...

COVID-19 Acute Respiratory Distress SyndromeRespiratory Distress Syndrome

Recent advances have been made in prevention of the viral infection via vaccines but there is still need for effective treatment options for patients. Novel therapies need to be developed to further improve clinical outcomes. The biggest medical challenge in the response to COVID-19 is ARDS requiring hospitalization in an intensive care setting and ventilator dependence. Intravenously administered umbilical cord derived exosomes and stem cells have been reported in literature to alleviate pulmonary distress in such patients. The purpose of this study is to explore the safety and benefits of intravenous administration of WJPure and EVPure in the treatment of COVID-19 patients with moderate to severe ARDS. .

Olfactory Training as a Treatment for Olfactory Dysfunction Post COVID-19

HyposmiaCOVID-193 more

Olfactory dysfunction is a defining symptom of COVID-19 infection. Studies have demonstrated improved olfaction in patients with post infectious olfactory dysfunction after an olfactory training (OT). The aim of this study is to assess the clinical outcomes of olfactory training (12 weeks) therapy in the treatment of persistent olfactory dysfunctions after COVID-19. Specially, we aim to compare the effectiveness of two different olfactory training (different odors) with a placebo group. A group will train themselves with 4 scents (rose, orange, clove and eucalyptus) and another group with 4 different scents (cheese, coffee, strawberries and lemon). The placebo group will train themselves with an odorless substance. Olfaction sensory evaluation will be performed by using different olfaction tests (Sniffin' Sticks and UPSIT) and complete questionnaires to assess olfactory perception and particularly parosmia and phantosmia.

COPD Circuit Exercise

OSACovid192 more

This study is being done to understand body's response to hybrid home-based and on-site rehabilitation program utilizing individually tailored exercises throughout a total of 18 sessions with 12 of them occurring onsite, in people with and without chronic respiratory diseases, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and in individuals recovered from COVID-19. Exercise training programs vary widely for people with COPD, OSA, and during prolonged recovery from COVID infection. This study will help identify if this program is helpful to address muscle loss and fatigue specifically in populations with and without chronic respiratory diseases.

Laser Therapy on Tension-type Cephalea and Orofacial Pain in Post-covid-19 Patients

Tension-Type HeadacheOrofacial Pain1 more

Considering the auxiliary potential effect of photobiomodulation in controlling persistent CTT and TMD-related pain in patients who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and are recovered from the viral infection, we intend to conduct a clinical trial comparing two modalities of therapeutic laser application: local application and transcutaneous application in the radial artery. One of the main advantages of auxiliary techniques in pain control is the decrease of the use of drugs for analgesia, avoiding side effects and tolerance caused by them, and promoting an improvement in the individual's quality of life.

AIR-program and HUS Internet Therapy Compared to Treatment as Usual in Functional Disorders and...

Functional DisordersPost Covid-19

This study will compare an Amygdala and insula retraining (AIR) program to an internet therapy developed at Helsinki University Hospital. The study will be a multi-center randomized controlled trial. Study units will be recruited from the Network for Functional Disorders that is hosted by the HUS Clinic for Functional Disorders and potentially later from international collaborators. The trial will clarify whether internet-based non-drug based therapies are helpful in overcoming the central sensitization and the functional disabilities caused by these disorders.
