Electrical Stimulation for Post Acute COVID-19 Syndrome

COVID-19Muscle Weakness2 more

The purpose of the pilot study is to examine acceptability and proof of concept effectiveness of a wireless TENS technology to address PACS associated FM. Sample size (n=40) is convenient and designed to explore acceptability and feasibility. Eligible participants will be screened at the BCM Post-COVID-19 Clinic for inclusion criteria. Participants, who satisfy the inclusion and exclusion criteria and sign the informed consent form will be randomly assigned with ratio of 1:1 into two groups. One group will utilize TENS functional devices (Active group, AG); the other group will utilize TENS non-functional devices (Placebo group, PG). The baseline measurements will be performed, and the patients will take the programmed device home for a duration of 4 weeks. Then, the patients will come back after four weeks (4W). At this 4th week visit, both groups will be unblinded and the AG will keep their functional device and the PG group will receive a functional device. Both groups will continue to deliver 3-5 hour of stimulation daily, until their final 8th week follow up visit (8W). The primary outcomes will be pain symptoms, sleep and fatigue. Secondary outcomes include limb strength and perfusion, gait assessment (gait speed, stride length, double stance, and gait steadiness), balance, pulse oximetry, and quality of life. The coordinator will utilize a weekly spreadsheet showing utilization (therapy sessions/day, logged in the Quell health Cloud) so compliance can be monitored and those that are not using the device can be encouraged.

The Effect of Aromatherapy With Thyme Oil on Disease Symptoms, Vital Signs, Hemodynamic Parameters...

Patient Engagement

Coronavirus, which is a common infectious disease, is characterized by symptoms such as severe pain, cough, shortness of breath, dizziness, secretion, diarrhea, nausea-vomiting, weakness, runny nose, changes in sense of taste and smell, and loss of appetite. The use of thyme is common for this disease whose standard treatment is still being discussed. However, studies investigating the effectiveness of oregano oil are limited. These few studies in the literature have focused especially on the effects of thyme oil on Covid-19 symptoms. This work; It will be done to evaluate the effect of aromatherapy with thyme oil on Covid-19 symptoms, vital signs and hemodynamic parameters in Covid-19 patients. There is no study in the literature investigating the effects of all these variables.

Effects of Inspiratory Muscle Training in Patients With Post COVID-19

COVID-19

Coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) is a new virus that emerged in December 2019 and spread quickly all over the world. Problems such as hypoxia, dyspnea, increased fatigue, decreased exercise capacity and respiratory muscle strength occur in COVID-19 patients. In addition, abnormalities in skeletal muscles due to systemic inflammation, mechanical ventilation, sedation and prolonged bed rest in hospital and intensive care patients cause decreased exercise capacity.

COVID-19 in a Single Large UK Rheumatology Centre and Impact on QOL

Covid19Rheumatic Diseases

The COVID-19 pandemic represents a threat to rheumatology patients. National advice for patients to 'shield' is based on risk stratification of therapies and other risk factors. While the epidemiology of COVID-19 in the rheumatological population is largely unknown large case registries are beginning to show potential drug treatment interactions. Strict self-isolation (shielding) has been recommended for those deemed 'high risk' although its impact on the likelihood of COVID-19 infection and health related quality of life (HRQoL) is unclear. The study aims to explore how this unprecedented situation has impacted the Trust patients primarily evaluating prevalence of the infection, effect of stringent social distancing (shielding) and Quality of Life (QOL). This will be done via a voluntary questionnaire, sent via text messaging at 6 and 12 months.

A Novel Cognitive Remediation Intervention Targeting Poor Decision-making and Depression in Veterans...

Major Depressive Disorder

Despite large-scale, nationwide efforts to better address suicidal behavior in Veterans at high risk, the development of interventions that target some of the key risk factors associated with suicide remains limited. This study aims to collect pilot data to test feasibility/acceptability of a novel adjunctive evidence-based cognitive remediation (CR) therapy with manualized "Bridging" sessions for transfer and practice of problem-solving strategies for real-world stressors, including those that trigger suicidal thoughts. This 10-week (20 session) Neuropsychological Educational Approach to Cognitive Remediation CR+Bridging telehealth intervention will be administered virtually via HIPPA-compliant services to 36 Veterans with major depressive disorder and a history of suicide attempt(s). Pre-, post-treatment, and follow-up assessments of neurocognitive, clinical, social, and real-world functioning also will be conducted. This study has potential for high public health impact and promise to help improve quality of life for Veterans at high risk for suicide.

Coping With Covid-19: Loneliness, Self-Efficacy, Social Support, Depression & Anxiety in Patients...

LonelinessDepression5 more

Aim of the study is to investigate possible predictors and factors that may be associated with the development and maintenance of mental and physical health constrains including depression and anxiety symptomatology as well as loneliness in hospitalized post-COVID patients and non-COVID patients in Germany. Furthermore, it will be investigated whether psychological interventions have an effect on anxiety and depression symptomatology, on loneliness values, self-efficacy and perceived social support values. Specifically, the research aim is to examine the relationships between loneliness, self-efficacy, and social support and to address the question of what factors increase the risk of post covid depression/anxiety, and to test the buffering effect of physical and social activities. For this purpose an experimental group comparison will be applied, in which two interventions will be performed on post-COVID patients and non-COVID patients in the unit of Physical Medicine and Geriatrics in Medical Rehabilitation. Digital Interventions to Understand and Mitigate Stress Response

DistressEmotional2 more

Stress, anxiety, distress, and burnout are exceptionally high among healthcare workers at the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic. The understanding of factors underlying distress and resilience in complex workplace contexts is limited, and there are limited evidence-based interventions for stress and moral distress among frontline healthcare workers. The purpose of this study is to use a Digital Intervention Suite (a combination of Virtual Reality [VR], a web-based platform, and a wearable [Oura Ring]) to understand and reduce the experience of stress/distress faced by nursing professionals.
