ARMOR Study: COVID-19 Seroprevalence Among Healthcare Workers

Covid-19Coronavirus Infection1 more

The novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has spread all around the world and testing has posed a challenge globally. Health care providers are highly exposed and are an important group to test. On top of these concerns, health care workers are also stressed by the needs on responders in the COVID-19 crisis. The investigators will look at different ways to measure how common COVID-19 is among health care workers, how common is the presence of antibodies by serological tests (also known as serostatus). The investigators will describe health worker mental and emotional well-being and their coping strategies in their institutional settings. Lastly, the investigators will describe how knowing serostatus can affect individuals' mental and emotional well-being and how to cope in the midst of the COVID-19 response. This will help to how to better test and help healthcare workers in the COVID-19 pandemic and prepare for possible future outbreaks.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) in Inflammation-Resolution Programs of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)...

ARDSCOVID-19

To evaluate the safety, toxicity and immunological effects of infusion of allogeneic bone marrow-derived human mesenchymal stem (stromal) cells (MSCs) and whether this therapy has an influence on the resolution processes in ARDS patients infected with Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

Thymosin Alpha 1 to Prevent COVID-19 Infection in Renal Dialysis Patients

COVID-19

Thymalfasin (thymosin alpha 1 or Ta1), the active pharmaceutical ingredient in ZADAXIN® injection, is a 28-amino acid synthetic peptide, identical to natural Ta1 produced by the thymus gland. Ta1 is a biological response modifier which activates various cells of the immune system, and is therefore expected to have clinical benefits in disorders where immune responses are impaired or ineffective, including acute and chronic viral and bacterial infections, cancers, and vaccine non-responsiveness. Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis, in addition to their intrinsic kidney disease and frequent burden of comorbidities, also have increased risk of exposure to communicable diseases as they are treated several times each week at hemodialysis centers with several other patients and clinic staff in attendance. The majority of patients are over 60 years of age and many are receiving immunosuppressive medications. Accordingly, ESRD patients are particularly susceptible to COVID-19 infection. Ta1 has been shown to be safely administered to hemodialysis patients. It is our hypothesis that a course of Ta1 administered to individuals with ESRD will reduce the rate and severity of infection with COVID-19.

Late Clinical Events Associated With COVID-19 Infection

Covid19

Several publications document the occurrence of symptoms that persist or occur late. The identification of the observed clinical manifestations and their clinical and paraclinical description are essential to better understand the natural evolution of COVID-19, to clarify the pathophysiological mechanism of these possible late manifestations, and to identify potential management options for patients. Since this type of event is infrequent, a large-scale national multicenter cohort study focusing on symptomatic patients is needed.

Well-Being and Health-Related Quality of Life in Melanoma Patients During COVID-19 Pandemic

COVID-19 InfectionMelanoma

The primary purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of how experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, regardless of COVID-19 status, may have impacted multiple domains of health-related quality of life and other areas such as COVID-19 specific psychological distress, and disruptions to health care, finances and social interactions. We will also evaluate the extent to which resiliency factors such as social support, perceived benefits under times of stress, and ability to manage stress may buffer associations between COVID-19 experiences and HRQoL. To meet these objectives, we have developed a 10-minute questionnaire that taps into these areas and is based on prior work addressing concerns of other pandemics or national crises. Participants will have previously consented to protocol PA15-0336 and have provided prior lifestyle data. This will allow us to connect the COVID-19 survey data with prior existing data.

Testing the Accuracy of a Digital Test to Diagnose Covid-19

Covid-19

The Covid-19 viral pandemic has caused significant global losses and disruption to all aspects of society. One of the major difficulties in controlling the spread of this coronavirus has been the delayed and mild (or lack of) presentation of symptoms in infected individuals, and the insufficient Covid-19 testing capacity in the UK. This warrants the development of alternative diagnostic tools that reliably assess Covid-19 infection in the early stages of infection, while also being low- cost, low-burden, and easily administered to a wide proportion of the population. This study aims to validate machine learning models as a diagnostic tool that predicts infection with SARS-CoV-2 based on app-reported symptoms and phenotypic data, against the 'gold-standard' swab PCR-test. This study will take place within the Covid Symptom Study app, the free symptom tracking mobile application launched in March 2020.
