Community-engaged Optimization of COVID-19 Rapid Evaluation And TEsting Experiences

COVID-19COVID-19 Pandemic

Throughout the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, rates of COVID-19 have been persistently high in San Diego County's central and southern communities near the United States/Mexico border. These regions predominantly house Latino residents, the ethnic minority community most impacted by COVID-19 in San Diego. In the Phase I project, University of California, San Diego (UCSD) partnered with San Ysidro Health (SYH) and the Global Action Research Center, to co-create and demonstrate the impact of a COVID-19 testing program in San Ysidro, one of the most impacted areas from COVID-19 in San Diego County. To date, the project tested >10,000 community members (92% Latino) and received requests to scale-out the testing program to additional primary care clinic sites. In this Phase III project, Community-engaged Optimization of COVID-19 Rapid Evaluation And TEsting Experiences (CO-CREATE-Ex) will extend work with the Phase I community and clinical partners to refine, specify, implement, and evaluate an implementation strategy bundle that optimizes COVID-19 testing, expanding beyond current polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing to FDA-authorized COVID-19 rapid antigen testing.

Effect of Natural Food on Gut Microbiome and Phospholipid Spectrum of Immune Cells in COVID-19 Patients...

COVID-19

The efficacy of natural foods such as freeze-dried mare's milk (Saumal) in post-COVID syndrome therapy has not been studied. The literature review has shown that researchers have focused more on evidence-based medications and less on natural products. Some raw foods, such as freeze-dried mare's milk, contribute to forming complete immune complexes and have antioxidant, membrane stabilizing, and antiviral effects. The use of Saumal proved its effectiveness in patients suffering from chronic hepatitis C. After 4 weeks of using freeze-dried mare's milk, the biodiversity of the intestinal microbiome was increased. The content of bacteria secreting short-chain fatty acids also increased. The study aims to confirm these effects at the gene level in patients who underwent COVID-19. This study will allow us to develop a highly evidence-based component of rehabilitation therapy in patients after COVID-19.

LACTYFERRIN™ Forte and ZINC Defense™ and Standard of Care (SOC) vs SOC in the Treatment of Non-hospitalized...

COVID-19

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the safety and efficacy of Sesderma LACTYFERRIN™ Forte and Sesderma ZINC Defense™ in non-hospitalized patients with COVID-19. The main question is: Is there a reduction in the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 from baseline to end of treatment? Participants will complete the following activities. Screening and first day of treatment Treatment that will be administered for up to 10 days, two treatment evaluation visits will be completed After treatment completion. Two visits are scheduled, one 28 days after the last dose and the other 60 days after the last dose. Researchers will compare Treatment Group (Sesderma LACTYFERRIN™ Forte and Sesderma ZINC Defense™ + Standard of care (SOC)) with the Control group (Placebo +SOC) to see if there is Reduction in the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 at the end of treatment

The LUSZ COVID-19 Severity Index: A Prognostic and Predictive Score of Mortality for Hospitalized...

COVID-19

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread rapidly and caused a global pandemic, as defined by the WHO, within a short period of time. The prognostic of disease severity is still a challenge and early identification of risk factors to be involved in its progression is of high importance. The scoring of variables related to worse outcomes is key for a targeted and/or advanced protocol. Besides, the need for a predictive-wide model is mandatory for hospitalized unvaccinated patients to avoid any delay in the characterization of severe illness and the development of complications. The LUSZ COVID-19 Severity Index was developed as a predictive tool based on >100 risk factors/biomarkers, that could effectively identify high-risk patients and prevent mortality.
