The McMaster Multi-Regional COVID-19 Hospital Case Registry
Coronavirus InfectionCoronavirus2 moreThe McMaster Multi-Regional Hospital Coronavirus Registry (COREG) is a platform that is collecting detailed case data on laboratory confirmed COVID-19 hospital inpatients and outpatients. The COREG platform will provide rapid high-quality evidence to improve the prevention and clinical management of COVID-19 for older adults in Canada, and internationally. The COREG platform will also provide researchers and partners with complete regional level clinical data on COVID-19 cases to inform rapid decision-making and projections, sub-studies, extensions, and linkage for all affected populations.
MSCT Chest in Suspected COVID-19 Patients
COVID-19The present study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of MSCT chest in the detection of COVID-19 cases and to correlate its diagnostic performance with that of the clinical presentation and CBC indices; using RT-PCR assays as a gold standard.
Global Assessment of Acute and Chronic Kidney Disease Incidence and Outcomes in Patients With COVID-19...
Covid19AKI3 moreThe coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has created a significant strain on health care resources across the world for managing critically ill patients. Emerging reports from China, South Korea and Italy have reported varying incidence of acute kidney (AKI) ranging from 5-15% with a mortality of 60-80% however there is no systematic assessment of the risk factors, recognition, course and outcomes in patients with and without kidney disease whose course is complicated by AKI1-4. Patients with underlying CKD, immunosuppressed patients with renal transplants and ESKD patients are at high risk for COVID-19 infection and there is limited information on the effect of COVID-19 on the course and outcomes of these patients. The requirement for renal support including IHD, CRRT and sorbent based therapies has been variable and has contributed to the intense pressure on the nephrology and critical care providers for delivering these therapies. As the COVID-19 pandemic expands in the USA and abroad, there is an intense need to understand the epidemiology of the disease and the resources needed for renal support to inform clinical management and public health interventions. In this study, the investigators aim to investigate health care facilities across the world (hospital wards, ICU, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, healthcare centers) to draw a global picture of incidence, risk factors, resources available for treatment and prognosis of acute and chronic kidney disease in patient with COVID 19 confirmed infection. The aim is to identify trends in patients with acute and chronic kidney disease, determine its incidence, treatment and outcomes in different settings across the world. This information will be used to develop and implement educational tools and resources to prevent deaths from AKI and progression of CKD in this and following pandemics.
Moral Judgements and Choices of Caregivers in the Time of COVID-19 Pandemic
MoralsThe XPHI-COVID19 randomized study aims to investigate the mechanisms of moral judgements in a population of caregivers, using a survey, with the results to the Oxford Utilitarianism Scale as primary outcome.
Evaluation of the Immune Response to SARS-CoV-2 Among Patients With Covid-19 in Costa Rica
COVID-19Describe the immune response of patients affected by SARS-CoV-2, including an assessment of the types of antibodies elicited by the infection, specifc antibody titers for the different isotypes, evolution of the antibody response over time, protective efficacy and immune correlates of protection. investigate genetic determinants of Covid-19 and of the imune response to this condition. Finally, the study will investigate secondary infection rate and its determinants among household contacts of Covid-19 patients.
Feasibility of a Telematics Pre-operative Assessment in a Bariatric Surgery During Covid-19
ObesityTelemedicine1 moreCoronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. Several recent papers on the pandemic recognized obesity as a risk factor for the COVID-19 infection. Therefore, an effective treatment for obesity even during COVID-19 outbreak is needed. Bariatric surgery, is considered an effective treatment in the reduction of obesity-related comorbidities and mortality risk. However, during Covid-19 phase 1 (lockdown) the near totality of elective non-oncologic procedures, including bariatric surgery, has been postponed, and all the outpatients' visits too. Therefore, phase 1 led to completely change the way of managing the pre-operative multidisciplinary visits considering the hospital limitation access and the restriction. In the present study the investigators explored the use of telemedicine as a possible strategy to face this new situation. Specifically, this study aims to test the efficacy of an online structured protocol based on pre-operative multidisciplinary assessment using telemedicine instruments. In particular, the primary end point is to test the feasibility of a telematics pre-operative work-up. The secondary end points are evaluating patient's compliance and satisfaction to the online assessment.
