Chondromodulating Effect of Diacerein in Osteoarthritis of the Hip

Hip Osteoarthritis

We carried out a 3 years, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter clinical trial in patients with hip osteoarthritis in order to: evaluate the ability of diacerein, an interleukin-1β inhibitor, to slow the progressive decrease in joint space width observed in patients with hip osteoarthritis to investigate the potential structure-modifying effect of diacerein in patients with hip osteoarthritis This study compare also after ten years the percentage of patients in each treatment group who require a hip replacement surgery

Perfusion MRI-targeted Joint Embolization for Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain of the Shoulder, Hip...

OsteoarthritisKnee8 more

In this work the investigators will study the relationship between chronic musculoskeletal pain and abnormal blood flow (neovascularity) around the shoulder, hip and knee. Veterans with as history of chronic shoulder, hip or knee pain and mild/moderate joint degenerative changes will be potential study subjects. Blood flow around joints will be evaluated using perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Participants with demonstrably abnormal blood flow around their painful joint will be eligible for enrollment in a pilot study of joint embolization to treat their pain. Participants who choose to not undergo treatment will be re-assessed with MRI after one year to characterize the natural history of joint neovascularity and its relationship to pain.

Feasibility of a Web-based, Peer-supported Exercise Program for Patients With Hip and/or Knee Osteoarthritis...

OsteoarthritisKnee2 more

In this project, a web-based exercise program is developed in co-creation between specialized health care, the Norwegian Association for Rheumatic diseases (NRF) and a group of experienced patient representatives. The project emerges from the evidence that exercise is recommended as first-line treatment for patients with chronic diseases like hip- and knee-osteoarthritis (OA). However, the number of patients in need of targeted exercise will increase considerably the next decades, and their treatment needs cannot be fully handled within the health care system. Development of innovative and effective treatment trajectories and follow-up strategies is urgently required. Peer-support is recognized as an effective way to increase patients' long-term adherence to exercise. Thus, patient-organizations may be an unutilized resource in support and follow-up of patients who need long-term exercise as part of their treatment plan. After discharge from examination in hospital, patients with hip/knee OA will be recruited to follow-up in a novel web-based, peer-supported exercise program, and the feasibility of the intervention will be evaluated.

Mobilization With Movement in Patients With Osteoarthritis of the Hip

Osteoarthritis HipJoint Disease2 more

The concept of mobilization with movement, also referred to as a Mulligan mobilization, has not been studied in patients with hip osteoarthritis, subsisting questions about the possible effects in this population. The aim of this randomized controlled study is to compare the immediate effects of Mulligan mobilization with movement technique of pain, range of motion and physical function in patients with osteoarthritis of the hip.
