Study of a New Technique to Improve the Symptoms of Orofacial Discomfort in Patients With Peripheral...
Peripheral Nerve Facial Nerve ParalysisFacial Nerve Diseases1 moreThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Neuro Occlusal Rehabilitation (RNO) in patients with peripheral facial palsy (PFP) disease, noting the decrease in symptoms of masticatory dysfunction. According to Carvalho (2009) patients with PFP have chronic unilateral masticatory preference. Santos et al. (2009) in the same year noted that these conditions can lead to problems with temporomandibular disorder. Hypothesis- known that performing occlusal adjustment in these patients with chronic PFP, ensuring a maximum of dental contacts and a final stop of the masticatory cycle stable, providing a balanced occlusion. dental cleaning was performed in two groups for the blind study visual analog scale -To assess the quality of the oral functions of these patients, the investigators applied the visual analog scale(VAS) and statistically evaluated the degree of satisfaction regarding the functions of oro facial in relation to mastication and temporomandibular dysfunction. gnathostatic models were made in the treatment group in the first and last query. occlusal adjustment in treatment group. In the group treated occlusal adjustment was made in the teeth and applied a new (VAS) before and after treatment. The RNO, is defined as a part of medicine that operates in stomatology occlusal plane as a guide to a harmonious development of the face, chewing facilitating bilateral and alternating. (Planas, 1997). It works through selective grinding on the occlusal platform, providing an increased number of dental contacts.
The Efficacy of Low-level Laser on Cervical Myofascial Pain Syndrome
Myofacial Pain SyndromesObjective: To compare the effectiveness of application of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) to trigger points and traditional acupoints for patients with cervical myofascial pain syndrome (MPS). Design: A single-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled trial Setting: University rehabilitation hospital Participants: One hundred and twenty one patients with cervical MPS Intervention: The investigators performed this experiment using low level 810-nm gallium aluminum arsenide (Ga-Al-As) laser. One hundred participants were randomly assigned to four treatment groups, including (1) acupoint therapy (2) acupoint control (3) trigger point therapy and (4) trigger point control groups. Main Outcome measures: The investigators evaluated the patient's visual analogue scale (VAS) pain scores, pressure pain threshold and cervical range of motion (ROM) before and after the therapy.
Peer Mentorship: An Intervention To Promote Effective Pain Self-Management In Adolescents
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)Functional Abdominal Pain6 moreThis protocol matches child subjects with peer mentors of similar age who have learned to function successfully with a chronic pain disorder. The trained mentors will present information to the subjects in a supervised and monitored interaction via telephone and computer for 2 months and encourage participation in skill-building programs. Children will be tested for improvement in pain and functioning at 2 months and again at 4 months to see if improvements persist. The investigators hypothesize that children who received peer mentor support will show more improvement in pain and functioning at 2 and 4 months into treatment than those in a control group who do not receive mentor support.
Evaluation of Lamotrigine on Neuropathic Facial Pain Using fMRI
Facial NeuropathyThe aim of this project is to evaluate the effects of the anticonvulsant drug lamotrigine (trade name Lamictal) on neuropathic facial pain or neuralgia using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
Botox Injections for Patients With Persistent Facial Pain
Facial PainThe main objective of this study is to investigate efficacy and safety of injecting botulinum toxin towards the sphenopalatine ganglion using MultiGuide in patients with persistent idiopathic facial pain
Dry Needling and Maitland Joint Mobilization Techniques in Patients With Myofacial Chronic Neck...
Myofacial PainNeck PainThe purpose of my research is to compare the effects of dry needling and Maitland mobilization in chronic myofacial neck pain
Occlusal Splint and Masticatory Muscle Injection in Myofacial Pain
Myofacial PainMyofascial pain is one of the common symptoms in patients with temporomandibular joint disorders. Occlusal splint use, trigger point injections and the combination of this two methods are primary treatment options. Patients were divided into 3 groups and this three treatment was applied. We aimed to investigate the clinical and ultrasonographic effects of the treatments. Patients in the treatment groups were reexamined at 1st and 3rd months, and their clinic and ultrasonographic records were repeated. 16 healthy volunteers were also included in the study. No treatment was applied, only clinical and ultrasonographic records were taken once.
Topical Application of MyoRx (Omega 3 Fatty Acids Containing) Cream
Myofacial PainThis study is designed to evaluate the effectiveness of topical application of omega-3 fatty acids (6% by volume) containing cream on persons with a TMD disorder, specifically with a diagnosis of Myofacial Pain. Omega-3 fatty acids have minimal side effects when applied topically. If Omega-3 fatty acids used in this study are shown to reduce myofacial pain then this formulation could potentially be used for treatment of TMD patents with myofacial pain in the future. Omega-3 fatty acids are natural ingredients with almost no side effects. Topical application can lead to fewer side effects than systemic medications. In addition, there is no substantial morbidity & mortality associated with topical application of Omega-3 fatty acids. It is hypothesized that subjects receiving topical application of omega-3 fatty acids will demonstrate reduced subjective masseter muscle pain in comparison to subjects receiving placebo cream. This is a pilot study to assess the topical application of Omega-3 fatty acids on muscle pain in the muscles of mastication.
Occlusal Adjustment as Treatment for Chronic Orofacial Pain
Temporomandibular Joint DisordersOrofacial PainThe purpose of this study is to determine whether occlusal adjustment by selective grinding and/or occlusal addition is an effective treatment of chronic temporomandibular joint disorders.
Ultrasound Guided Trigeminal Nerve Block for Typical or Atypical Facial Pain
Typical Facial PainAtypical Facial PainTrigeminal neuralgia is a craniofacial pain syndrome that is typically characterized by unilateral severe, recurrent, electrical pain in one or more distributions of the trigeminal nerve. Current treatment strategies include oral medications as first line therapy with surgical interventions reserved for those patients who are refractory to medications or unable to tolerate medication side effects. Despite these current treatment options, many patients continue to have symptoms. Ultrasound-guided trigeminal nerve block allows for fine adjustment of the needle tip and direct observation of the medicine. Local anesthetic and steroids have been successfully used for diagnostic and or therapeutic nerve pain with great success. Steroids can be short or long acting in duration with varying side effects. If there exists a difference in duration of action, using the longer acting drug will provide a greater period of symptom relief for the patient and may allow the patient to undergo fewer interventional procedures.
