Monocyte Profiles in Critically Ill Patients With Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Sepsis

Pseudomonas InfectionsPseudomonas Septicemia8 more

The present study focuses on patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PSA) sepsis. The aim of the present study is to find out whether the M1 (pro-inflammatory) or M2 (anti-inflammatory) phenotype predominates in blood monocytes in critically ill patients with PSA-sepsis, and whether the severity of sepsis and outcome is associated with distinct monocyte phenotype and function.

Link Between Plasma Citrulline and Lipopolysaccharide Concentrations in the Critically Ill

Critically Ill

In critically ill patients, the small bowel permeability is increased, leading to bacterial translocation, and systemic inflammatory response syndrome. Plasma citrulline is a validated biomarker of functional enterocyte mass. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a part of Gram negative bacteria, and plasma LPS concentration is a biomarker of bacterial translocation. The link between plasma citrulline and LPS in the critically ill is unknown. Investigators hypothesize that patients presenting with low plasma citrulline concentration, with presumed altered small bowel function, would have an increased phenomenon of bacterial translocation, and increased plasma LPS concentration. Investigators aimed to evaluate the link between plasma citrulline and LPS concentrations in critically ill patients at the time of ICU admission.

Pneumonia Due to Stenotrophomonas Maltophilia in ICUs

PneumoniaVentilator-Associated4 more

Pneumonia is a major cause of ICU admission, or may complicate ICU course. Among the causative pathogens, Stenotrophomonas Maltophilia is a rare pathogen, but affects usually patients with chronic pulmonary co-morbidities, or with long duration of mechanical ventilation and multiples treatment with broad spectrum antimicrobial therapy. However, there are only a paucity of data regarding epidemiology, impact and outcome of Pneumonia due to Stenotrophomonas Maltophilia in critically ill patients. Primary objective was to study factors associated with mortality in case of Pneumonia due to Stenotrophomonas Maltophilia. Secondary objectives were to describe factors associated with morbidity of Pneumonia due to Stenotrophomonas Maltophilia (duration of mechanical ventilation, ICU length of stay), and to report the characteristics of critically ill patients presenting Pneumonia due to Stenotrophomonas Maltophilia.

Nutritional Therapy on Underweight Critically Ill Patients: an Observational Study

UnderweightCritical Illness

Critically ill patients with body mass index (BMI) inferior to 20 kg/m2 have worse outcomes compared to normal and overweight patients. The impact nutrition therapy in this population is not yet stablished. There is a concern that too low caloric intake might worse their malnutrition; on the other hand, overfeeding is always a risk with serious consequences. The hypothesis of this study is that nutritional support, especially caloric and protein intake, can influence the outcome of underweight critically ill patients.

SC2i VIPER: EnVenomation Investigation Pilot to Evaluate Recovery

Critical Illness

The purpose of this study is to pilot data for a systematic molecular characterization of pathophysiologic perturbations incurred by snake envenomation and compare this to other inflammatory physiologic states such as trauma and sepsis. This sub-study will analyze samples of participants enrolled under the parent study "Surgical Critical Care Initiative Tissue and Data Acquisition Protocol".

Intubation and Extubation Over 48 Hours Mechanical Ventilation

PneumoniaVentilator-Associated1 more

The purpose of this study is to determine how often ventilator associated pneumonia happens in the current intensive care units, and how types of endotracheal tube affect its occurrence.

The Association of Protein-Energy Adequacy With Mortality in Critically Ill Patients With Acute...

Critical IllnessAcute Kidney Injury

This is a prospective observational single-center study in which the association of Protein-Energy Adequacy and 28-Days of Mortality among critically ill patients with Acute Kidney Injury, AKI will be investigated. The association of Protein-Energy adequacy with a length of ICU and hospital stay, total ventilator, and inotropic drug days among critically ill patients with AKI also will be investigated.

Pediatric Intensive Care and COVID-19

Covid19Pediatric ALL3 more

In this prospective longitudinal cohort the investigators reported the clinical, and biological characteristics of all critically ill patients admitted in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of Bicêtre Hospital during the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemics. Patients were older than 37 weeks of gestational age. No upper limit was set as the unit was transiently converted into a pediatric "adult COVID-19" intensive care unit.

Long-term Follow up in Survivors of Critical Illness

Post Intensive Care Unit Syndrome

Survivors of critical illness may suffer from persistent physical, cognitive and mental impairments, such as muscle weakness, dysfunction in the memory and executive domains, post-traumatic stress disorders, depression, and anxiety. This syndrome is referred to as Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS). This study aims to assess the frequency of impairments, their evolution over time, and to understand the pathogenetic mechanisms and the association between long-term sequelae and acute care events.
