Study of Cognitive Reserve Disorder Affecting Depression in Aged Related Hearing Loss Via Rest State...
Age-related Hearing LossCognitive Decline1 moreIn this study, patients with aged-related hearing loss with depression and without depression were evaluated by audiometry (pure tone audiometry and speech audiometry), cognitive function assessment (MMSE scale for simple mental state test, MoCA Scale for Montreal Cognitive Assessment), and depressive symptoms assessment (GDS-15 and HAMD), resting state EEG. The ananlysis of resting state EEG included power spectral density, traceability analysis, functional connectivity, microstate, clustering coefficient, characteristic path length, characteristic path permeability, and compatibility coefficient. EEG signals were used to explore the activation of brain regions and poor connectivity of brain regions affected by cognitive reserve dissonance on the level of brain imaging. This paper innovatively explores the influence of cognitive reserve dissonance on depressive mood in senile deafness by means of audiological assessment, cognitive function assessment, depression symptom assessment, resting state electroencephalography (EEG) and other technical means. Auditory and cognitive cortical activation, functional connectivity of brain regions, small-world attributes and microstates were analyzed in senile deafness with or without depression at the brain imaging level.
Investigating Hearing Aid Frequency Response Curves
Hearing LossSensorineural2 moreInternal research on the manufacturer's hearing aid products has idenitfied areas in which the investigators can improve the hearing aid frequency response curve. This study aims to investigate the current freqeuncy response curve in the manufacturer's products to variations of these curves to determine if hearing aid users prefer the variations over the manufacturer's standard curve.
Evaluation of Cogmed Working Memory Training for Adult Hearing Aid Users
Hearing LossA double-blind randomised active-controlled trial aims to assess whether Cogmed (adaptive) working memory training results in improvements in untrained measures of cognition, speech perception and self-reported hearing abilities in older adults (50-74 years) with mild-moderate hearing loss who are existing hearing aid users, compared with an active placebo Cogmed (non-adaptive) control. It is hypothesised that improvements on trained Cogmed tasks, representing increased working memory capacity, will result in improved performance on cognitive and speech perception tasks that engage working memory. We also measure self-reported hearing ability to assess self-perceived benefit of Cogmed training.
Evaluating the Efficacy of Opti-Speech for Speech Treatment
Articulation DisorderDysarthria1 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine if feedback from a three-dimensional real-time visualization of the tongue, a program called Opti-Speech, can be used to improve speech.
Clinical Study of Minimally Invasive Ponto Surgical Technique (MIPS) - Design Iteration
Bone Conduction DeafnessUnilateral Deafness2 moreThe objective of the study is to compare the outcomes after a surgical procedure with minimally invasive Ponto surgery (MIPS, test group) and tissue preservation surgery (control) for placing Oticon Medical Ponto implants and abutments.
Quality Control of CE-Certified Phonak Hearing Aids - 2018_42
Hearing LossSensorineural Hearing LossPhonak Hearing Systems pass through different development and study stages. At an early stage, feasibility studies are conducted to investigate new algorithms, features and functions in an isolated manner. If the benefit is proven, their performance is then investigated regarding interdependency between all available algorithms, features and functions running in parallel in a hearing aid (pivotal/pre-validation studies) and, as a result, they get optimized. Afterwards, and prior to product launch, the Phonak Hearing Systems undergo a final quality control in terms of clinical trials. This is a pre-validation study, investigating optimized algorithms, features, functions and wearing comfort. This will be a clinical evaluation which will be conducted mono centric at Sonova AG Headquarters based in Stäfa (Switzerland).
Comparison Between Neuro 1 and Neuro 2 Cochlear Implant Speech Processors
Sensorineural Hearing LossCochlear Hearing LossThe present study aims to evaluate patient satisfaction and audiological performance with their current cochlear implant speech processor, the Neuro 1, and to compare it with the satisfaction and performance obtained with the new speech processor, the Neuro 2.
Treating Hearing Loss to Improve Mood and Cognition in Older Adults
Hearing LossDepressionAge-related hearing loss (ARHL) is the third most common health condition affecting older adults after heart disease and arthritis and is the fifth leading cause of years lived with disability worldwide. Many hearing-impaired older adults avoid or withdraw from social contexts in which background noise will make it difficult to communicate, resulting in social isolation and reduced communication with family and friends.Social isolation and loneliness have been linked to numerous adverse physical and mental health outcomes, including dementia, depression, and mortality, and they may also lead to declining physical activity and the development of the syndrome of frailty. In this project it is hypothesized that untreated ARHL represents a distinct route to developing Late-life Depression (LLD) and that individuals with comorbid ARHL/LLD are unlikely to respond to treatments (i.e., antidepressant medication) that do not treat the underlying hearing problem. Initial studies suggest remediation of hearing loss using hearing aids or cochlear implantation may decrease depressive symptoms acutely and over the course of 6 to 12 months follow-up. However, the clinical significance of these findings is obscured by lack of rigorous control groups, failure to objectively document hearing aid compliance, and enrollment of study populations lacking syndromal depression or even a threshold symptom score.
Bilateral Benefit in Adult Users of the HiRes 90K Bionic Ear System
Hearing LossNormal hearing listeners gain important everyday benefits from listening with two ears (bilateral hearing) compared to their baseline performance with hearing aids. Advantages of bilateral hearing include the ability to determine where sounds are coming from and the ability to hear sounds and understand speech in noisy environments. Based upon these advantages, this study will (1) evaluate the benefit of hearing with two Bionic Ear implants (one in each ear) and (2) compare HiResolution sound processing with conventional sound processing.
Use of Frequency Compression in Severe-profound Hearing Loss Adults
Frequency CompressionSevere-profound Hearing ImpairmentThe purpose of this study is to investigate the functional benefits of frequency compression vs no frequency compression or fitted to hearing loss in severe-profound hearing impaired adults with high frequency hearing losses. Thus, assessing whether hearing aids for this patient population can be adapted to improve speech perception.
