Frailty and Postoperative Outcomes After Emergency General Surgery
General SurgeryGeriatrics1 moreThe investigators will examine the association between preoperative frailty and postoperative outcomes and resource utilization after emergency general surgery.
Saraiki Translation, Validity & Reliability of the Activities Specific Balance Confidence (ABC)...
Old Age; DebilityThere is a need for a culturally adapted screening tool to aid health care professionals or clinicians screen for the presence of fall and balance issues associated with injuries in saraiki population. Furthermore, while culturally adapting the scale is necessary, it is important that changes do not alter the original intent, which requires it to be broad, comprehensible and applicable to the entire population. As saraiki language is the most-used language in the South Punjab, translating and adapting the ABC scale to the saraiki population while accounting for its sociocultural characteristics is an important task. So, I decided to conduct a tool translation and validation study. This study will help the clinicians to assess their patient's confidence and balance easily through the saraiki version of ABC scale in saraiki population and hence will help in timely management of the balance.
Outcomes in Hospitalized Older Patients With COVID-19
Coronavirus InfectionSars-CoV22 moreIn December 2019, the first patients infected with the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) were diagnosed in Wuhan. The clinical presentation and course of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-CoV-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is poorly understood in older patients and is certainly different from the general population. This project is designed to better understand and to determine clinical, biological and radiological markers of poor adverse outcomes in hospitalized older patients diagnosed with COVID-19.
Intraoperative EEG Marker of Preoperative Frailty in Elderly Patients
FrailtyFrailty is a state of vulnerability, characterized by a loss of mechanisms that maintain homeostasis, determining a lower capacity for recovery in the event of a stressful incident. It is one of the risk factors that increase postoperative adverse outcomes in the elderly population. It has been associated with worse results in different surgical settings, including increased mortality, readmission, referral to specialized care units, increased costs and hospital stay. Currently, there are several instruments for diagnosis and screening of frailty. All of them require time for their execution, an experienced evaluator and an adequate validation in the population in which they are intended to be used. The use of frontal electroencephalography during the intraoperative period has become increasingly popular. It allows the monitoring of brain activity during the administration of anesthetics. Various intraoperative electroencephalographic markers, such as alpha spectral power or total spectrum power, have been associated with factors such as preoperative physical activity, preoperative cognitive level, comorbidities, and postoperative delirium. The objective of this study will be to determine an intraoperative frontal electroencephalographic marker of preoperative frailty in ≥ 65 years patients undergoing general anesthesia with Sevoflurane for non-cardiac surgery.
Prevelance of Frailty and Its Associated Factors in Patients With Axial Spondyloarthritis
FrailtyAxial SpondyloarthritisAxial Spondyloarthritis is an inflammatory arthritis disease and its main symptoms are chronic pain and stiffness, causing structural damage to the spinal vertebrae. Axial Spondyloarthritis leads to physical disability and a decrease in the level of physical activity. Frailty is a syndrome characterized by decline in physiological reserve and loss of muscle strength. Frailty can lead to vulnerability of individuals to possible injuries and a decrease in independence, and ultimately an increase in mortality. Although frailty is associated with older adults, it has been reported that it can be detected in patients with cancer, diabetes and rheumatological diseases and it is not related with age. Frailty has been reported to be a reversible and a treatable condition. The aim of our study was to investigate the prevalence of frailty and the relationship between frailty and disease activity, physical functional level, quality of life and other associated factors in individuals with Axial Spondyloarthritis.
Validation of a Frailty Self Assessment Tool
FrailtyThe number of elderly is increasing throughout of the world. Aging is associated with increasing diseases that may be preventable. Over the last decades, frailty has emerged as one of the major risk factors for loss of autonomy. Frailty can be reversed through appropriate interventions particularly when they are implemented early. Therefore, early detection of frailty is a major objective. The goal of this study is to identify elderly subjects aged 70 years and over at the early stage of frailty by using a self administered questionnaire sent to the participant by mail. The results of the self assessment will be compared to the Fried criteria collected by a clinical examination conducted by a healthcare Professional blinded to the self assessment results.
Nutrition and Frailty in Older Persons
FrailtyThe purpose of this study is to investigate the association between nutrition and frailty in older community-living persons.
Cystic Fibrosis and Frailtyh What's in Common?
Frailty SyndromeCystic FibrosisThe goal of this observational study is to assess the main clinical and anamnestic characteristics, and frailty syndrome in an adult Cystic Fibrosis population. The main question it aims to answer is the possible association of the frailty status with the main clinical, therapeutical characteristics, including the genotyping classification of Cystic Fibrosis patients.
Association Between Frailty and Postoperative Adverse Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Urological...
FrailtyPostoperative ComplicationsFrailty is a clinical condition associated with aging that is characterized by a decline in physiological capacity involving multiple organ systems. Previous research has established a strong correlation between frailty and increased mortality and morbidity risk after surgery. The 5-item modified frailty index (mFI-5) is a recent tool used to assess frailty. The aim of the present study was to use the mFI-5 to identify frailty and its association with postoperative adverse outcomes, including mortality and morbidity, among patients who underwent urologic procedures.
Spanish-language Version of the Kihon Checklist
FrailtyThe purpose of this cross-sectional study is to validate the Spanish version of the Kihon Checklist for screening frailty in Spanish community-dwelling older adults.
