Maternal Vit D Supplements & Infant and Maternal Biomarkers & Outcomes in Southern Ethiopia

Vitamin D Deficiency

Synthesis of vitamin D in the skin through the action of sunlight is a major source of vitamin D in parts of the world where foods are not fortified with the vitamin. Skin pigmentation (color), dress habits and season are some of the factors that limit sun exposure and affect vitamin D synthesis in the skin. Maternal vitamin D status is especially important to meet infant needs when newborns are not supplemented with vitamin D. In Ethiopia, vitamin D status of lactating women and infants and breast milk vitamin D concentration have never been assessed. The purpose of this study is to assess changes in maternal and infant markers of vitamin D status before and after vitamin D supplementation of the lactating mothers.

Vitamin D in Periodontal and Cardiovascular Disease Progression

Vitamin D Deficiency

Vitamin D has been considered to possess anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity which may be a link for the known interaction of periodontitis (CP) and coronary heart disease (CHD). This study investigated the association between serum vitamin D levels and periodontitis in patients with CP and with CHD. Furthermore, the objective was to determine if periodontitis and CHD had an impact on serum vitamin D levels.

Vitamin D Deficiency Still Growing

Vitamin D Deficiency

Vitamin D deficiency has become one of the most prevalent health problems in modern society. However, there has been no study that has reported the trend of vitamin D status in Asia. This study investigated the trend of vitamin D status in Korea between 2008 and 2014. This study is based on a representative national database acquired from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (KNHANES) conducted from 2008 to 2014. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels were measured by radioimmunoassay among those aged 10 yrs or older. The temporal change of vitamin D status will be statistically analyzed.

Vitamin D Levels in Residents in Medicine

Vitamin D Deficiency

the study aims to messure the vitamin D levels in medical staff in the hospital. The physicians in the course of their internship who work indoors and work many night shifts have limited sun exposure in all seasons. Nursing staff who work shifts and work indoors are at the same risk of liltle sun exposure. The study addresses the amount of sun exposure, assessed by a sun exposure questioner, age, gender, work load related to number of shifts in the physicien group and in nursing group the job percentile we also adress religion (clothing cover)as a factor.

Pilot Study: Hypovitaminosis D, Hyperparathyroidism and Hypomagnesemia in Patients With Congestive...

Congestive Heart FailureHypovitaminosis D1 more

People with heart failure may have low magnesium and low vitamin D levels. They may also have abnormally high levels of parathyroid hormones. Magnesium and vitamin D are important chemicals that are not routinely measured in blood tests. We are studying how many people with heart failure have low levels of magnesium and vitamin D. We are also studying how many people with heart failure have overactive parathyroid glands and if that is related to their vitamin D levels.
