Participants with agitation secondary to dementia of the Alzheimer's type. The diagnosis of probable Alzheimer's disease (AD) will be based on the "2011 Diagnostic Guidelines for Alzheimer's Disease" issued by the National Institute on Aging (NIA)-Alzheimer's Association (AA) workgroups.

The project aims to investigate in patients of Alzheimer's disease in a prodromal state (early state of the disease) compared to healthy subjects whether neurofeedback training with functional MRI (fMRI) can improve cognitive ability. It is of interest if voluntary modulation of brain activation with real-time (rt) fMRI as a novel method affects cognitive ability, as well as functional and structural measures of the brain. Over the course of the study subjects will learn a real-world footpath. During neurofeedback training subjects are then asked to recall this footpath while simultaneously trying to modulate their own brain activation based on feedback. Feedback is given about the parahippocampal gyrus - a region of the brain associated with episodic and visuo-spatial memory, which is known to be affected early by Alzheimer's disease pathology. Before and after the training cognitive ability is assessed using neuropsychological tests mainly measuring numerous domains of memory. The investigators hypothesise that the training leads to an improvement of the trained cognitive domain, but also induces changes in brain structure and function.

This study looks at the potential benefits of combining cognitive training (mental exercises) together with transcranial magnetic stimulation (also known as TMS) to see if this can make a difference in the condition of people with Alzheimer's disease by improving their disease and the cognitive decline that goes along with it.

The purpose of this study is to compare 23 mg donepezil sustained release to the currently marketed formulation of 10 mg donepezil immediate release in patients with severe Alzheimer's disease.

This is a randomized, 26-week study of supervised exercise assessing three doses of exercise in sedentary individuals 65 years of age and over with age-related cognitive changes. A total of 100 subjects (n=25 in each of four groups) will be randomized to a non-aerobic control group, 75 minutes, 150 minutes, or 225 minutes a week of moderate intensity aerobic exercise spread over 3 to 5 days a week for 26 weeks. These exercise doses represent 50%, 100%, or 150% of the recommended exercise dose. Participants will be directly supervised during all exercise sessions for the first two months after which direct supervision will occur during at least one session a week. This is intended to provide increased flexibility while also maintaining direct contact with the participant to enhance adherence. Aerobic fitness, physical function, and cognition will be assessed at baseline and 26 weeks to examine the dose-response relationships.

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that donepezil slows the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain to measure the volume of the hippocampus in patients with pre-dementia Alzheimer's disease.

In this study in-vivo quantification of amyloid load will be performed in patients with AD, MCI and normal controls with Positron Emission Tomography. For this the PET tracers [11C]PIB and [18F]FDDNP will be compared.
