Caregiver StressDementia4 moreThis research is being done to develop a unique matching process for caregivers of persons living with dementia, such as Alzheimer's disease, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal degeneration, or other dementia syndromes. Dementia caregivers often assume greater caregiving burden than do non-dementia caregivers, and the caregiving duration tends to be longer. Many caregivers do not have the adequate support they need. Peer-to-peer support has been shown to improve quality of life, increase use of services, improve caregiver health, and reduce hospitalizations in the person they are caring for. This study will assess a technology platform and matching process for the purpose of peer-to-peer emotional support aimed at improving overall wellbeing in dementia care partners/caregivers.

Microbiome and Dementia
DementiaFrom this study, it is hoped to learn if and how the gut microbiome composition, gut permeability and inflammation in patients with dementia are associated with each other. Dysbiosis may lead to an increased gut permeability, bacterial translocation and inflammation which may influence pathogenesis and progression of dementia. The novel aspect of the study will be to understand the association between gut microbiome composition, gut permeability and the presence of dementia. This will help to better understand the pathogenesis of dementia and lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies. If this hypothesis holds true, the study will be the basis to develop new treatment options for dementia.

Frontotemporal DementiaBehavioral Variant Frontotemporal DementiaThe objectives of the study are to; (1) estimate the change in disease -related cognitive decline over 1 year on a battery of cognitive tests administered to participants with early-stage symptomatic Behavioral Variant Frontotemporal Dementia (bvFTD) phenotypic variant; (2) identify the cognitive test or brief battery of cognitive tests which are the most sensitive to detect bvFTD progression; (3) determine the optimal schedule of administration of cognitive tests to detect bvFTD progression; (4) evaluate the relationship between cognitive tests and measures of behavior, function, caregiver's burden, quality of life (QOL); and (5) obtain blood samples for genetic and exploratory biomarkers correlations.
Implications for Management of PET Amyloid Classification Technology
Mild Cognitive ImpairmentDementia1 moreThe main purpose of this study is to explore the impact of an amyloid positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET/CT) scan on physician diagnosis and management, including drug management and care practices, for patients with a diagnosis of cognitive impairment. This study also intends to capture specific patient-reported outcomes related to patient burden, confidence and satisfaction. The hypothesis is that to aid early diagnosis, individuals with a diagnostically uncertain etiology for their dementia will benefit from knowledge of amyloid plaque burden status, through an alteration of patient diagnosis and management, which will lead to significant changes in patient and care partner reported outcomes.

DementiaWith nearly one million cases of dementia in France in 2010, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related syndromes are a major public health issue. The lake of drug for treatment or preventing AD, health related quality of life (HRQoL) became an essential criterion of evaluation to assess the treatment strategies of patients. Generic HRQoL tools are generally less sensitive for a given disease. That is why other specific tools for AD have been developed. None of them was validated in French. The aim of this study was therefore, after a review of the literature, to achieve a cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric validation of the "Quality of Life in Alzheimer's Disease" (QoL-AD) and "Dementia Quality of Life" (DQoL). These two questionnaires were selected because they were the most popular in English- language literature for this disease.This study concerned a total of 155 patient-caregiver pairs recruited from six French hospitals and a Francophone Swiss center. Patients had a confirmed diagnosis of AD (mild stage to moderate: Mini Mental State Examination ≥ 10). QoL-AD and DQoL were administered by an interviewer. The caregiver sheet of QoL-AD was self-administered. Cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric validation have been carried out for these two questionnaires.

Visualising Cerebral and Peripheral Cholinergic Nerves in Patients With Dementia Lewy Bodies.
Dementia With Lewy BodiesDegeneration Nerves2 moreLewy Body Dementia (DLB) is the second most common type of neurodegenerative dementia and characterized by loss of cholinergic neurons in the cerebrum and possibly also internal organs. A novel tracer, 18F-fluoroethoxybenzovesamicol (18F-FEOBV), binds to the cholinergic vesicle transporter, a protein expressed uniquely in the vesicles of cholinergic pre-synapses. Our aim is to investigate the cholinergic denervation in patients with DLB using 18F-FEOBV. The investigators plan to recruit 30 patients with DLB and 20 healthy controls to extensive cognitive assessment, computed and positron emission topography, magnetic resonance imaging, and samples of blood. The investigators hypothesize that patients with DLB, compared to controls, have decreased cholinergic innervation in cortical and subcortical areas of the brain, intestines and heart, and that the denervation corresponds to symptoms of autonomic and cognitive dysfunction.
Quality of the Management of Diabetes in Elderly People With Dementia in France
Alzheimer DiseaseAlong with population ageing, the association of chronic conditions such as Alzheimer's Disease and Related Syndromes (ADRS) and diabetes mellitus is increasing in clinical practice. According to ADRS severity, guidelines of diabetes care may be adapted for a personalized monitoring and treatment. The consequences on diabetes complications are not known and can also threaten dementia progression. Based on a nationwide healthcare reimbursement database, the present study aimed to compare diabetes care and the incidence of acute complications between patients with or without ADRS, in a longitudinal perspective focusing on the pivotal period of ADRS identification by the healthcare system.
