Delta-THC in Behavioral Disturbances in Dementia

Dementia

Dementia is a common chronic condition, with predicted increasing prevalence. Nearly all patients with dementia will experience neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS). This causes significant burden for the individual patients and their caregivers. Current treatment has only modest efficacy and important side-effects. Formulations with Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psycho-active compound of cannabis, are currently being registered for spasms in multiple sclerosis and other diseases, and may have beneficial effects on NPS.

Parkinson's DiseaseCognitive Impairment1 more

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the usefulness of memantine, compared to placebo (sugar pill), for the treatment of cognitive impairment in patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD) and dementia. Memantine is used as a safe and effective treatment for patients with Alzheimer's disease. Cognitive impairment includes concentration and memory difficulties. We will look at how well this medication helps your cognitive impairment, how well you tolerate this medication (including its effects on your motor symptoms of PD) your activities of daily living, your emotions, and any medical conditions you might have. We will interview a person you choose as your "informant".

Can Oral Vitamin B12 and Folate Supplementation Preserve Cognitive Function of Patients With Early...

Dementia

Background: Vitamin B12 and folate are essential to brain health. Sub optimal status of vitamin B12 and folate leads to elevation of plasma homocysteine concentration, which is associated with Dementia. Vitamin B12 and folate supplementation improved the cognitive function of demented subjects with hyperhomocysteinaemia in a pilot study. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of vitamin B12 and folate supplementation in preserving cognitive function of subjects with early dementia

Efficacy and Safety of Aricept in the Treatment of Severe Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's DiseaseDementia

Donepezil hydrochloride (Aricept) has been approved to treat symptoms associated with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease (AD). Aricept has been shown to improve the memory and thinking abilities, activities of daily living and global function in patients. The purpose of the study is to further investigate the effectiveness and safety of donepezil in patients with severe Alzheimer's disease. Donepezil is thought to work in the brain by increasing the levels of an important brain chemical called acetylcholine. This chemical helps a person's memory to work better.
