Art Museum Program for Seniors With Cognitive Disorders and Care-partners
DementiaAs the population ages, there is increasing interest in developing innovative approaches to promote and sustain mental and emotional well-being. Recent studies have linked engagement with the arts with supporting cognitive functioning, promoting empathy and greater sense of life purpose. The need to develop alternative approaches to sustain emotional well-being is especially acute for the nearly 6 million older Americans who suffer from Alzheimer's disease. There is a need for quality activities that can be done virtually for homebound individuals with cognitive disorders and the individuals' family care-partners. The investigators intend to institute a 3-session virtual art museum pilot program for seniors with cognitive disorders and care-partners using the Visual Thinking Strategies approach. The investigators hypothesize that participation in a virtual guided visual arts experience will enhance emotional well-being and self-esteem for both seniors with cognitive impairment and the seniors' care-partners.

Memantine Versus Placebo in Parkinson's Disease Dementia or Dementia With Lewy Bodies
Parkinson's Disease DementiaDementia With Lewy BodiesThe purpose of this exploratory study is to determine whether memantine can provide benefits on clinical symptoms in patients with Parkinson's Disease Dementia or Dementia with Lewy Bodies.

Study of Xaliproden (SR57746A) in Patients With Mild-to-Moderate Dementia of the Alzheimer's Type...
Alzheimer DiseaseThe purpose of this study is to assess xaliproden's potential capacity of slowing the deterioration of cognitive and global functions in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. The patients participating in this study will take orally once daily xaliproden or placebo (inactive substance pill).

An Open Trial of Zidovudine (AZT) Treatment of the AIDS Dementia Complex in Patients With AIDS or...
AIDS Dementia ComplexHIV InfectionsTo provide accurate and complete neurologic assessment of the course of the AIDS dementia complex in patients treated with zidovudine (AZT). The study will determine how frequently patients improve, how long improvement is sustained, and the magnitude and functional significance of improvement. Individuals with AIDS frequently suffer central nervous system (CNS) problems that are characterized by cognitive, motor, and behavioral deficits, in a disorder known as AIDS dementia complex. Clinical experience suggests that its course is often progressive, going from initial symptoms to moderate or severe dementia within several months. Accumulating evidence now suggests that direct brain infection by the HIV virus is the likely cause of the AIDS dementia complex. Case reports suggest that therapy with AZT, which has been shown to be a strong inhibitor of HIV replication in vitro, may alleviate the AIDS dementia complex. This study will help define the natural history of the AIDS dementia complex in treated patients.

Investigating the Effect of Training With a Virtual Reality Driving Simulator
Spatial NavigationNavigation2 moreThe proposed study aims to investigate the use of a driving simulator in a virtual reality (VR) environment to improve the cognition state and spatial navigation of individuals with mild/moderate memory impairment. All volunteers will be assessed by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA),Montgomery-Asberg Depression Scale (MADRS) and Morris Water orientation tests for baseline assessment after they sign the consent form and are enrolled into the study. Participants will also be scheduled for post-intervention assessments (MADRS, Morris Water Orientation and a simple questionnaire on how they evaluate the experiment). Participants of the study will play the driving simulator daily (5 days/week) for 15-20 minutes/day over a period of 2 consecutive weeks. Participants' daily performance data are recorded and uploaded on the secure server of the Priciple Investigator (PI). Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ) test will also be run after the first session of the experiment and at the end of the training period.

Prevalence and Level of Diagnosis of Dementia in a Population-based Sample in the County of Trøndelag...
DementiaTo investigate and make valid estimates of the occurrence of dementia and the most common subtypes of dementia in Trøndelag, and transfer these figures to estimates of the occurrence of dementia in Norway as a whole, by age, sex and severity of dementia. Furthermore, the proportion of people without dementia diagnosis among those with dementia will be examined. The investigators will further investigate whether there are differences in dementia prevalence between males and females and educational groups and look at factors associated with a lack of diagnosis.

Translating a Dementia Caregiver Intervention Into a Mobile Application
DementiaAlzheimer Disease1 moreThe overall goal of this development project is to combine elements of two efficacious interventions into a mobile health (mHealth) App for informal dementia caregivers. The investigators will conduct a 3-month feasibility trial of the newly-developed CARE-Well App in 40 dementia caregivers to establish acceptability and feasibility of the intervention, study procedures, and outcome measures.

The BRAIN App: Building Relationships Using Artificial Intelligence and Nostalgia
DementiaDementia4 moreThis study will involve testing of an Alpha version of an app called "Building Relationships using Artificial Intelligence and Nostalgia" or BRAIN. The BRAIN App will be the first -ever artificial intelligence infused CST app for PWD. The app has two main goals: (1) to foster positive relationships between the care triad, and (2) to promote QoL while reducing responsive behaviors in PWD. Testing will examine the app's impact on engagement/affect for both PWD and professional Care Partners.

Insulin-Sensitizing Anti-Inflammatory Small Molecule for Investigative Treatment of Dementia
Alzheimer DiseaseThis study seeks to measure changes in cognition through verbal and visual test procedures and changes in biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease and inflammatory and metabolic parameters that can be measure in the central nervous system (CNS) with advanced neuroimaging techniques in patients treated with NE3107 (17a-ethynyl-androst-5-3b,7b,17b-triol).

Connecting Seniors to Care
DementiaThe purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of implementing the virtual assistant devices into the daily routine of participants and their caregivers,to measure social determinants of health, depression, cognitive impairment, nutritional and functional status in the cognitively impaired participants
